*NSFL MVP Rankings (Weeks 1-4) - nickyvmlp - 05-20-2019

The MVP Rankings list is back, it's been far too long, let's not wait any longer. Here's who's doing really good right now.

#1: BAL Baltimore QB Childish Gambino, 1100 yards, 58% completion, 13 TDs, 2 INTs, 104.3 QB rating (@Renrut)

Last season there were a few quarterbacks that were battling it out for the best quarterback of the year award. Gambino, McCormick, Showbiz, and Christ could all stake their claim on that honor, but this year, it’s a bit more one-sided. Childish Gambino is lighting it up. He had a pretty strong game in Week 3 against Arizona, going 25/41 for 292 yards, 3 TDs and no picks. Most people would consider that close to their ceiling, but most people aren’t Childish Gambino. His Week 1 throttling of the Colorado Yeti is a surefire frontrunner for NSFL Performance of the Year: 27/37, 379 yards, SEVEN touchdowns, and a single pick that came on the first Baltimore drive of the game, which as you can see, he rebounded from pretty well. He’s currently second in the league in passing yards, third in completion percentage, and first in touchdowns, passer rating, and fewest interceptions. If this is the last year we’re going to see Childish Gambino, then he’s going to give us something to remember him by.

#2: BAL Baltimore RB Marquise Brown, 115 carries, 550 yards, 4 TDs, 12 receptions, 104 yards (@YoungTB)

Once again, just like at the end of last year, the two best offensive players in the league play for the Hawks. Marquise Brown is the best running back in the league right now, and it’s not close. If you got Marquise Brown in fantasy football with anything other than the #1 overall pick, go directly to jail, you thief. Marquise has been the model of consistency all year, finishing all four games this season with somewhere between 120 and 150 rushing yards. All he does is deliver very good rushing days. Not only does he have the league lead in rushing yards with 550, but also in rushing touchdowns with four. Baltimore is the only team in the majors that relies on one running back so heavily, and when Brown produces like this, it’s easy to see why.

#3: PHI Philadelphia FS Lennox Garnett, 29 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 INTs, 1 TD (@37thchamber)

It’s really hard to argue against the person with the best and second best games that any defender has had all season, according to the Defensive Top Performances page. Week 3 against Orange County, eight tackles, three sacks, a deflection, and a pick. Week 2 against New Orleans, seven tackles, a sack, a deflection, and a pick-six. He is a bit feast or famine so far; you may notice that all of his sacks and interceptions came in two of the four games, and in the other two, he only contributed tackles (although he is leading the Liberty in tackles, so he’s at least putting in the work there). Right now, there’s a bit of a divide between second and third, and if Garnett wants to close that gap to the two Baltimore playmakers, he’ll either need to improve his consistency, or get a few more of those Defensive Performance of the Year candidates.

#4: COL Colorado WR James Bishop, 21 receptions, 424 yards, 5 TDs (@Bwestfield)

This is a rare case where I feel like a receiver is outshining his own elite quarterback. First off, there is no other receiver who’s filling out the statsheet like James Bishop is. Tied for fourth in receptions, first in receiving yards, and tied for first in receiving touchdowns. His crowning performance so far is most likely from his Week 4 game, Colorado’s only win so far, where he hauled in four catches for 138 yards and two scores. Other Yeti receivers are getting receptions, but Bishop just seems to take those receptions way farther than anyone else on his team. The Yeti have a lot of problems, and they aren’t making the postseason without a huge turnaround, but this McCormick-Bishop connection they’ve got going is one thing Colorado is most certainly getting right.

#5: BAL Baltimore CB Arbin Asipi III, 16 tackles, 4 INTs, 9 deflections, 1 TD (@DeathOnReddit)

You know what this list needs? MORE HAWKS!!! Right now, Arbin Asipi III is a lockdown corner that should be avoided at all costs. He leads the league in both interceptions and deflections (tie), and he’s been giving quarterbacks fits all season. His finest performance so far would definitely be the aforementioned shellacking the Hawks gave to the Yeti where Asipi registered six tackles, four deflections, two interceptions, and a first quarter pick-six that set the tone for the rest of the game. Since then, teams have generally been avoiding him, but he has still managed to snag a pick in two of the last three games. His stats may go down in the coming weeks since he’s good at the whole taking away the ball thing, but his impact on the field should not be understated. You can call him “The BallHawk”. Bet that joke’s never been made around here.

#6: COL Colorado QB Micycle McCormick, 992 yards, 56.6% completion, 7 TDs, 3 interceptions, 85.2 QB Rating (@infinitempg)

This isn’t the same Micycle McCormick we saw last season. He’s probably not going to hit 5000 passing yards again. (In fact, he’s on pace to not even hit 3500.) Instead, this is a more efficient Micycle. He’s second in the league in passer rating, second in touchdowns, and he’s the only quarterback besides Childish with a touchdown-to-interception ratio above 2:1. He did have a performance in his most recent game that was reminiscent of last season’s airshow. Against New Orleans, McCormick went 17/29, for 303 yards, 2 TDs, and no picks, en route to the Yetis first win of the season. Maybe that’s a sign that we’re about to see him go off again, but the addition of Terry Taffy in the draft and the re-signing of Devo Cansino suggests a more balanced offense for the Yeti this season. Still, you never know when the Micyclist could drop another 400 yard bomb on you.

Sorry for the delay, life has been very busy for me lately. But, funnily enough, despite me being drafted by the Sabercats, and the Sabercats having the league’s only undefeated record, none of them made this list. So, that should put any talk of favoritism to bed.
