*Defense Prospect Bowl Breakdown - Hallmonitor_20 - 08-14-2019

Alright after breaking down the quarterback prospects, it's time to take a look at the monsters on the defense. These are the guys that are paid to humiliate the high jersey sellers on the offense. Now, there were about 50 people to record a tackle so these breakdowns are going to show off the real standouts in each category.

First we start off with the counting stat that shows the true effectiveness of a defender, tackles. If you can't tackle then go play a different sport or become a kicker or something. These are the tackling machines from the last 6 games.

Matt Ammons, Linebacker - 65 Tackles

Otto VanJensen, Linebacker - 64 Tackles

Chico De La Aqua, Linebacker - 63 Tackles

Junior Lopez, Linebacker - 50 Tackles

Net Gaines, Linebacker - 47 Tackles

As expected the top five is only linebackers as the run heavy prospect bowl gave the field generals a ton of work. Ammons had an unreal streak of back to back 15 tackle games that gave him the edge over VanJensen and De La Aqua who both had a 16 tackle game. It's no surprise that the Cobra powerhouse defense had two games represented in the top 5.

Next we move to tackles for loss. This is a stat that let's the big run stuffers on the line shine through. These are the guys that see ball, hit ball to make the big stops for their teams.

Net Gaines, Linebacker - 6 TFLs

Chuck Bartowski, DE - 5 TFLs

Marlo Smart, Linebacker - 5 TFLs

James Lux, DE - 5 TFLs

Otto VanJensen, Linebacker - 5 TFLs

Looks like only two defensive linemen made the top 5 in the run stuffing stat to go along with three linebackers. Net Gaines really had an act of making big plays as a leads our list. VanJensen and Gaines were both leading tacklers so this shows that they were definitely a force defensively.

Now for the real stat that everyone cares about, sacks. This is the defenses chance to humble those cocky quarterbacks, with their dumb commercials, and hot wifes, and perfect hair. Defenders have dance moves to, so let's take a look at who had the most sack dances in the prospect bowl.

Bjørn Ironside, DT - 4 Sacks

Abashai Williams, DT - 4 Sacks

Chico De La Aqua, Linebacker - 2 Sacks

Trae Bacon, DT - 2 Sacks

James Lux, DE - 2 Sacks

You knew after all his hate for Gimmy (and quarterbacks in general) that Bjørn would lead in the sack department alongside fellow big man Williams. De La Aqua is our only linebacker on the list as his blitzing was top notch compared to the competition. Bacon and Lux round out the top five with two sacks.

Now let's get an award for the smaller guys to celebrate. We're talking about interceptions. Cornerbacks are said to be wide receivers that couldn't catch, well these five guys will say otherwise.

Wayne Howyanow, FS - 3 Ints

Justin Kehoe, CB - 2 Ints

Korrin Abernathy, CB - 2 Ints

Howard Ryan, FS - 1 Int

Achillies Babcock, SS - 1 Int

JimJam FlimFlam, SS - 1 Int

Multiple guys had 1 Interception.

If you want to talk about a ball hawk, look no farther than Wayne Howyanow. Three interceptions to lead the league in only six games definitely moves him up teams draft boards. Kehoe and Abernathy are the only corners in the top six as the prospect bowl ran zone heavy defenses which helped safeties shine.

Now that the little guys are happy let's get back to our big boys. They can force turnovers to and that by forcing fumbles. If you're going to hit people then hit them hard. The biggest hit sticks in the prospect bowl are below.

Matt Ammons, Linebacker - 2 FFs

Chico De La Aqua, Linebacker - 2 FFs

Marlo Smart, Linebacker - 2 FFs

Ransom Stoddard, Linebacker - 1 FFs

Bjørn Ironside, DT - 1 FF

Multiple players had 1 Forced Fumble.

Ammons and De La Aqua top another chart as Marlo Smart matches them with forced fumbles. These guys are not afraid to hit and really intimidated opposing offenses.

Finally, let's look at some standout statlines to really breakdown some star players.

Matt Ammons

65 tackles 1TFL 2FF

What more can be said about this guy? The dude is like a freaking octopus that just wraps up everything that comes near him. He's got what it takes to be a generational talent in the linebacker spot.

Chico De La Aqua

63 tackles 4 TFLs 2 sacks 2FF 1int

The sexiest name in football and probably the sexiest starliner to go with it. This guy literally does everything. His name means "Of The Water" because his play is making me a little moist.

Otto VanJensen

64 tackles 5 TFLs 1FF 1int

With the name of an old timey legend, this man as gone very underrated. His name doesn't pop up as much as some of the other prospects but he could definitely be a staple for a great defense.

Net Gaines

47 tackles 6TFLs 1int

For an undersized linebacker Gaines has made a name for himself in the last 6 weeks. Gaines may only have 1 interception but it was probably the clutches interception of all time to help his team kick the game winning field goal before time expired. If he has some protein gaines he will be a top pick in the upcoming draft.

Bjørn Ironside

25 tackles 2TFLs 4 sacks 1FF

You can't talk about top defensive prospects without all the manbear himself. His name alone strikes fear in the opposition (and teammates). He also lead the league in most angry tweets about Gimmy during a game and most threatened holdouts before the draft. Bjørn is already a legend of the sport who will only get better.

Smitty put in some work and hopefully gained interest from the D League. Relatively unknown coming out of the MAC, VanJensen's deceptive speed and growing strength should catch the eye of savvy GM's.

I counted and Fabricio Baldari got 7 TFL's through week 6 of the prospect bowl. That would make him number one in that stat unless I'm missing something.
