Rookie Defensive Tackle and 4th Overall Pick Brayden Ennis gets off the bus from the teams hotel. Fans screaming at players of both teams to sign their towels, balls, and game balls. There may be a game later that day but I’m classic NSFL fashion the beginning of the day would be full of celebration and clear of competition. All of the fans got to Longsnek stadium early got to meet all of the rookies in a media frenzy. Imagine a NFL pro bowl but with the the same games and events but with just 2 teams playing around. This game featured all of he top 3 draft picks which led to a photo shoot of the teams picks with Ennis, Owens, and Andrews. After a couple hours of fun and games everyone gets their game face on as they know what is coming up. The opening day of the season may mean celebration but it also mean the “opening day” of rivalry’s to come (S17) - PT1 - Opening Day! - Bigred1580 - 08-26-2019 I am super excited about the new season. Partly because it is great to have games back, but also fantasy football. Both my NSFL season and my NFL season starts the same way, with my fantasy draft. Like some of us in this league, part of what attracted me to sim leagues was that I compared it to a new take on fantasy football. Draft season is my favorite time of year. In the NSFL, we do a slow draft, and that has it's benefits. You get to take your time and really prepare for who may fall to you. You also can take yourself, which few people who do NFL fantasy can say the same. For the NFL draft, I love getting back together with friends and having a party to catch up on what is going on, as well as catch up on smack talk. I am having my final league's draft this upcoming weekend and am so excited to see what this season will bring me. Right now, we are all undefeated, and I know I am shooting for a title. That applies for both the NSFL fantasy leagues, as well as the NFL. (S17) - PT1 - Opening Day! - CalvinP - 08-26-2019 The electricity is in the air and you could feel it in the energy all around. It's the best time of the year. The season is about to start for us and we're in an extremely interesting situation because to a lot of people's surprise We were one of the most dangerous teams of the previous season. So walking into this season me and the rest of my teammates especially from season 15 are in a situation that we really haven't felt before.... we are walking in as one of the favorites. This is the first time we're walking in as 'Not The Underdogs', I can't state enough how important this is in my career we've literally never seen this side of the pendulum. It's exciting because I know we have one of the best defenses and one of the quietest social media and general media presences. We just show up and we do the job. We don't make a lot of noise talking about how efficient we are and we kind of just let Leaf do all the Talking for us. He's more than enough for the entire team. It's definitely very exciting to see our potential starting to show, it feels good to be a favorite but nothing is given to us and I'm extremely excited to potentially take what's ours. As long as I've been in the league, whether it was this one or down in the DSFL This is definitely hands down the most dominant and talented team I've ever been a part of. And I know that other teams are growing into their potential as well, and that's great, but I couldn't care less. I am a hundred percent confident in what our GMs put together. And I just can't State enough how excited I am for the upcoming season. And as far as the NFL goes..... I'm also very excited to see how Norfolk performs overall! I think our defense is okay, overall, at least compared to the other teams--but I think Bjorn can definitely be a key piece in turning the defense from decent or semi-good to good or great. I think that once the season really starts rolling, and the monster tackles in Norfolk get some time to upgrade and train, we'll see Norfolk as the team with an elite OL which will help chip away at the quality of the opposing team's offenses. I'm assuming this will happen since I think I'm the most active OL since the draft, with Chungus and others being as active as the other S18/17(?) OL draftees, which isn't a bad thing when they are all on the upper end of TPE as far as OL guys go. I'm definitely betting on our OL to become one of the better units, if not the best OL unit, in the DSFL, and I think if we stay a little active we can easily achieve that. One of the other things I'm looking forward to is the pickup in activity. Back when the draft was about to hit, and right after it unfolded, was really fun and active. I'm hoping the first few games of the season bring along some more consistent activity from our draft class! Getting to essentially shitpost and organize activities with each other is one of the main draws of this league tbh. Also, I'm super excited to see the Packers play again. The defense looks even better than it did last year, and the rookie WRs (RIP Equanimeous) have potential to step up! (S17) - PT1 - Opening Day! - Revolution5 - 08-26-2019 I'm excited to witness the Cheifs taking the next step. We do not have: Tyler Thigpen, Matt Cassel, Brodie Croyle, or Trent Green. We have Patty Mahomes! Days of check downs, and stacked boxes are over. Andy Reid's magical mind can unleash on the league for another season with a competent QB that no longer has to think about the play but feel the play. I'm not dissing Alex smith, he was good but Mahomes is great. The icing on the cake. An attacking defense that switches up its formation. No more, cover two off man strut out every play when we don’t have the personnel for it. Frank Clark and Chris Jones are forces to be reckoned up front with allowing the 2nd and 3rd year D-Line guys to beat there 1 on 1 match-ups. The key benefit to having a strong defensive line is this benefits the average corner backs. They’re going to need all the help they can get. Yet, the honey badger and the rookie Thornhill sill have the middle locked down. Week 1 is going to set the tone. I can't wait to follow them from the beginning of the season to the AFC finals where we will dethrone TB12. Andy Reid can use his immaculate time management skills /s to win it all. (S17) - PT1 - Opening Day! - ValorX77 - 08-26-2019 Another season has finally arrived, after a rather long offseason, The Yellowknife Wraiths return to the Burial Grounds to begin their quest for their second Ultimus, the only person who was hanging out with the tailgaters was defensive tackle Ryan Leaf Jr. “Well, it’s usually cold around here, and everyone is cooking fish on their grills and drinking their Leaf-Cola drinks, My personal favorite thing to do is to play Tecmo Bowl with some fans, and watch as Leaf kept sacking guys like Armstrong and Francisco.” “Another thing I like to do around opening day is talking to the media about my workouts, 3 hours a day, 500 pound bench lift, 100 pound lifts, Pushing a truck, and even pulling a Small plane with my neck.” We have very high hopes for the season, as many of the critics expect the Wraiths to do something they haven’t done in a very long time, win an Ultimus. We pretty much have almost the same exact roster from last season, with the league’s best offense, and an elite young defense, led by a young stud like Leaf, and some old otter escapees, like Grithead and Brown. “Cooter is well on pace to win this season’s most valuable player award, he has the league’s best offense, I mean, This sim is unpredictable.” (S17) - PT1 - Opening Day! - Dylandeluxe - 08-26-2019 As a DSFL rookie and a Sim rookie I don't think I have ever been this excited about fake football. Being drafted by the Luchadores has I believe put me in the best position to get a ring on my finger straight away. Getting to watch The Area 51 defense this year dominate the rest of the DSFL offences is going to be pure bliss. I truly think we are built to compete for another championship. Unfortunately I will be in class on campus during the game streams on opening day but I plan on watching them when I get home and writing up a collab media piece regarding the action. On the NSFL side it will be cool to finally watch the big dogs slug it out. I didn't get to catch any games last year but I plan to catch every one of them this time around. I'm rooting for the two expansion teams to somehow squeeze out 6-7 wins and maybe a wildcard. The last thing I am really looking forward to is just building my draft stock ahead of the S18 NSFL draft. I want to prove to teams that I can be a great LR guy and reliably active. As well as doing my best to be a max TPE earner. Write about what you are excited for or what your plans are for opening day as a fan or player. For me, the best part of a new season is the idea that you finally get to see all of the hard work that gets put in finally show up on the field. You've got players out there grinding and practicing and pushing themselves to new limits every single day, but they don't really know what it was worth until their feet hit the turf on game day for the first time. More than that, as a fan you get your first look at the young and the unproven. The draft is something that is uniquely American and it is one of the most exciting things in all professional sports. No matter how the season before played out, the draft is there to give you hope. Its a new beginning and a new reason to get excited. The draft is a gamble though. You never truly know if you grabbed the next big thing or if you selected a bust that might crash your entire team for years. The start of the season is your first chance to really get to look at those guys and see if the gambles paid off. Personally I always get more excited for rookies than anything else in football. The veterans, you most know what you have with those guys. You have seen them year after year and they might surprise you with a new element every now and then, but its the unknown that gets everyone going. Sometimes I get so lost in the new things that I can lose track of my own fandom. Patrick Mahomes in the NFL last season was a perfect example of that. I've never been a Kansas City Chiefs fan and probably never will be, but watching him play was a treat this past season. So much so that when they came up against my Patriots in the championship game, I got confused at times who I really wanted to win. The unknown is what really brings us all in. That is why the beginning of the season is the best time of year. Its a clean slate, you have no idea what is going to happen, and there is nothing but potential and possibilities ahead of you. This will be my first year as a player for the NSFL and it brings that same excitement. Experiencing the draft here was memorable to say the least and I've been antsy and impatient waiting for the start of the season. The unknown, the exciting. I can't believe it is finally upon us. On opening day I fully expect to make an impact and I hope I can prove myself worthy of my draft selection. Most of all, I'm just excited for kickoff so we can get to the fun. Soon the unknown will be the discovered and potential will be reached or fallen short of and I can't wait to get there. |
