*How'd they Do? - TubbyTim69 - 09-19-2019

In this Article I am doing a check in on how all 1st round draft picks from the S17 class did in their first seasons. Some exceeded expectations while others performed below what was expected and others were sent down to the DSFL. Without Further Ado, let's get things rolling:

1st Overall: Ashley Owens RB
Stats: 185 Carries 749 Yards 4 TD'S, 80 Catches 671 Yards 3 TD'S

Owens spent his rookie season splitting time with Mako Mendonca. For a rookie he put up some fairly decent numbers. After Sam Torrenson tore up the league as a rookie last year Owens wasnt quite able to match the work Torrenson put up. He finished 11th in rushing which as a rookie isnt terrible. Owens definitley has a bright future ahead and will look to take over the Starting job next season.

2nd Overall: Bubba Thumper DT
Stats: 49 Tackles 5 TFL, 1 FF/FR 3 Sacks

As the 2nd overall Thumper got thrown into the spotlight early and quickly. Thumper led all DT's in tackles however he wasnt able to do much on the pass game with only 3 Sacks. Thumper showed that he can shut down the run and force teams to run the opposite way.

3rd Overall: Jordan Andrews CB
Stats: 58 Tackles, 2 INTS, 19 PD

3rd Overall Pick Jordan Andrews became the #2 CB on NOLA right out of the gates. His season was nothing that stood out but he shows poise and promise. Andrews Hope's his second season is a step up from his Rookie.

4th Overall Pick: Brayden Ennis DT
Stats: 21 Tackles, 3 sacks.

It took Ennis about 45 seconds in the NSFL before he got traded to New Orleans. Once arrived he became the #1 DT on the roster. However, Ennis wasnt able to produce. He Averaged less than 2 tackles a game on one of the leagues worse Defenses. Ennis is going to have to step up big in Year 2 to prove that NOLA made the right choice by trading for him.

5th Overall: Tyron Brackenridge S
Stats: 64 Tackles, 6 Sacks, 1 INT, 1 PD

Brackenridge is the stereotypical run stopping Safety. When moved into the box Brackenridge showed aggression and had a nose for the ball. When Blitzed he was able to force some quick throws as well as adding 6 sacks. He is well worth the 5th overall pick and is one of the hardest hitting safeties in the league.

6th Overall: Mervin Leonard CB
Stats (DSFL): 64 Tackles, 4 INTS, 13 PD, 1TD

Leonard spent his first year down in the DSFL with Portland, there he was the #1 Corner and was a shutdown guy all year. Sending him down for a year was a smart move as he had a fairly good year for a CB. He finished tied for 2nd in INTS which he turned one into a pick 6. Once Leonard gets an opportunity it in the NSFL he is going to be a good #2 Corner.

7th Overall: Honda Edmond LB
Stats: 80 Tackles 1 FF/FR 6 sacks 15 PD

In a very weak LB class Edmond was a 1st rounder based on team Needs. With that being said he sure had himself a good season. He finished 3rd on the team in tackling and he was a big part of the run Defense. I can see Edmond hitting 100 tackles next season.

8th Overall: Dexter Banks WR
Stats (DSFL): 60 Catches 881 yards 11 TD'S

Banks returned to KC after being drafted and picked up where he left off. He finished 4th with 14.7 yards a Catch and 3rd in yards Overall, as well as 1st with 11 TD'S. Banks had the big year for KC we all knew he could do. Once his time comes in the NSFL he will be one of the most exciting deep threat Recievers in the league.

9th Overall: Saba Donut WR
Stats(DSFL): 67 Catches 1075 Yards 6 TDS

Saba give yourself a pat on the back. Saba lead the DSFL in yards and yards per catch. He finished second in TDS only behind Banks. Saba is a clear favourite to join the NSFL next season and could have a big year.

10th Overall: Julian McMorris
Stats: 72 Tackles, 1 TFL, 3 Sacks, 4 INTS, 21 PD'S

McMorris lead all rookies in Tackles(33rd Overall), INTS (3rd Overall)and PD'S(6th Overall). Many Viewed McMorris as a 2nd round pick, but after putting up numbers like this, not only did he prove that he should of been taken higher but now he is a favourite to win Rookie of the Year. If it wasnt for Sinclairs crazy 3 INT game, McMorris would've finished tied for 2nd in INTS. Philly definitley got the steal of the 1st round here. McMorris doesnt seem like he is slowing down and should be one of the top shut down corners in the league within the next couple years.

When you’re the biggest draft bust

It's the position you play too, DT'S especially the #1 DT on the team gets doubled a lot and avoided. DT rarely make a huge impact year one.
