Draft Review
New Orleans Second Line NOLA
Key Picks: 1. Bjorn Ironside, 6. Thudd Kassel, 11. Bender B. Rodriguez, 21. David Rector
Summary: With three of the first eleven picks, it would be hard not to pick up some strong active players, and that's exactly what New Orleans did, taking three 200+ TPE guys including obvious #1 overall pick Bjorn Ironside. Also in a savvy move, David Rector was picked up in the third round as yet another 200+ TPE player after he flew under the radar because, well, nobody knew that he was 200+ TPE.
One Thing I* Would Have Done Differently: Wait on Rector - If it's true that nobody else knew about his TPE situation, its possible they could have used a later round pick or traded back before making the move.

(* - Don't worry, as you'll see below, my opinions are very bad.)

Philadelphia Liberty PHI
Key Picks: 2. Zach Hall, 12. Jake Dropson, 22. Fuzzy Dotson, 27. Mike Franchet, 32. Baxter Frost
Summary: Philly picked up a lot of very active players, including the man with the leg Baxter Frost and Mike Franchet, who likely could have been a first round pick with a slightly better TPE total. Some of these guys may stay down on the DSFL for another season but the future of this group seems bright.
One Thing I Would Have Done Differently: Get a Linebacker - This was a strong linebacker group at the top and it seems like a position of need.

Orange County Otters OCO
Key Picks: 3. Tyrone Biggums, 9. Korrin Abernathy, 16. Marlo Smart
Summary: Biggums, Abernathy, and Smart are all well regarded players. Plus, Orange County once again found a way to get better for both the present and the future, picking up Colorado's S19 first round pick in exchange for moving back only four spots from 20 to 24.
One Thing I Would Have Done Differently: Keep Trading - Safety didn't seem like the strongest area of need, especially after picking Abernathy, so I maybe would have tried to get out of #24 and pick up even more future picks.

Colorado Yeti COL
Key Picks: 4. Louisiana Purchase, 8. Pete Parker, 20. Steco Ocewilder
Summary: The Yeti obviously hit a home run with unanimous DSFL defensive player of the year Louisiana Purchase with the fourth pick in the draft. From there, Colorado got to work on the phones, first moving up from 14 to 8 to get your friendly neighborhood Pete Parker and come away with the top two defensive backs in the class. Then, the Yeti moved up from 24 to 20 to pick up yet another former San Antonio Marshal with tight end (maybe?) Steco Ocewilder.
One Thing I Would Have Done Differently: Nothing - This was a perfect draft.

San Jose SaberCats SJS
Key Picks: 5. Marcella Toriki, 19. Joseph Wozniak
Summary: San Jose has Ludicolo Bigby at running back but I can see Toriki coming in to contribute heavily right away. Wozniak should also likely find a spot to play in a not overly crowded defensive backfield.
One Thing I Would Have Done Differently: Jump Back In - San Jose only had two of the first 34 selections. Depending on the asking price, I would have tried to package some mid round picks and/or backup players in order to get more out of this active class.

Yellowknife Wraiths YKW
Key Picks: 7. Maurice Virtanen, 17. Mathias Hanyadi
Summary: Yellowknife played this smart, picking up the highest TPE earner in the class with the seventh pick. Hanyadi should be a great pro but may opt to take another season of preparation in the DSFL.
One Thing I Would Have Done Differently: Jump Back In - Much like San Jose, I like the picks that the Wraiths made, but they could have benefited from more quantity in the middle rounds.

Austin Copperheads AUS
Key Picks: 10. Net Gaines, 13. Xavien Adams
Summary: I like the picks that Austin made here. Net Gaines is a very good value pick at 10 and Adams fills a position of need.
One Thing I Would Have Done Differently: Hindsight - Obviously they didn't have the info but with with the benefit of hindsight you would have to go with David Rector over Adams.

Arizona Outlaws ARI
Key Picks: 14. Ruff Ruff, 18. Jay Cue, 28. Samuel Bahktiari
Summary: After trading their first round pick in exchange for 14 and 28, Arizona focused heavily on the offense, taking top running back and good dog Ruff Ruff and by far the best QB in the draft and raining DSFL MVP Jay Cue.
One Thing I Would Have Done Differently: Take a Day 1 Contibutor - All three of the Outlaws early round selections may be staying in the DSFL next season. The future may be bright, but its not ideal to walk out of the draft with no new players to bring up.

Chicago Butchers CHI
Key Picks: 15. Mike Hockhertz
Summary: I can't kill the Butchers for not a making a big splash in the draft. It's hard to do so when you only have one pick out of the first 35.
One Thing I Would Have Done Differently: Quantity Over Quality - Chicago picked up a lot of mid- and late round picks by trading back, but I would rather package some of those later picks to move up and take active players.

Baltimore Hawks BAL
Key Picks: 25. Fabrico Baldari, 29. Earl Sauce, 30. Juan Marston
Summary: Baltimore did a good job of picking up 3 actives. Baldari especially fell further than I expected due to defensive line being such a position of need. Sauce becomes the best tight end in the class if Ocewilder ends up switching positions. Marston was unfortunately overshadowed by Purchase in San Antonio, but some have argued that he may actually have been the better player in coverage.
One Thing I Would Have Done Differently: Trade Up - I really like the players Baltimore picked, but it's just a matter of preference if you would rather have 3 active third rounders or 1 super active 1st or 2nd rounder.

Predictions Review
Jack Mahoff Will Be Pick #69 Again - CORRECT
Nice.

Baltimore And/Or Chicago Will Re-Enter The First Round - INCORRECT
Chicago was very active with picking up late round picks, but stayed at #15 for their first selection.

There Will Be 3+ Trades In The First Round - INCORRECT
There was only one, the Colorado Yeti moving back into the first round by trading picks #14 and #28 for the chance to take the top safety in the draft, Pete Parker.

There Will Be 4+ Offensive Players Taken In The First Round - INCORRECT
It turns out most mocks were correct, only WR Tyrone Biggums and RB Marcella Toriki were picked in the first. However, three of the first four second round picks were wide receivers Bender B. Rodriguez and Jack Dropson and running back Ruff Ruff.

New Orleans Trades the #1 Pick - INCORRECT
lol no

Predictions Performance: Not Good

Mock Draft Review
1. DT Bjorn Ironside - CORRECT
Not to toot my own horn, but I totally called this pick. There were a lot of doubters, but I just had a strange feeling that Ironside would be the first player off the board.

2. LB Maurice Virtanen - INCORRECT
This was a tough one, I thought Philadelphia might just go with best player available on the defensive side of the ball, but the word is they were looking for someone with GM experience so tight end - oops, I mean defensive end Zach Hall was the pick

3. S Pete Parker - INCORRECT
Essentially the same situation as the second pick. For a team with no obvious needs, I just went with the best player available but again a player with GM experience was preferred - this time San Antonio's Tyrone Biggums.

4. DE Zach Hall - INCORRECT
I had a feeling I had a chance to go here, but wasn't certain enough to mock it. Either way, whatever happened in the first couple of picks, Hall probably wasn't going to make it past this pick.

5. WR Tyrone Biggums - INCORRECT
I thought Biggums and WR needy SaberCats were one of the best fits in the first round. Orange County threw a wrench in that plan however, so San Jose stayed on the offensive side of the ball with RB Marcella Toriki

6. CB Korrin Abernathy - INCORRECT
I knew New Orleans was potentially in the market for a safety, and I knew Abernathy played quite a bit at safety for Kansas City so figured he may be open to it in the NSFL and this would be a good fit. Instead New Orleans picked up LB Thudd Kassel with their second pick in the first round.

7. LB Net Gaines - INCORRECT
Right position, wrong player. I just didn't expect the top TPE earner in the draft class Maurice Virtanen to slip this far.

8. RB Marcella Toriki - INCORRECT
Arizona did end up taking a running back with their first pick, but it was Ruff Ruff at pick #14 after trading their first rounder to Colorado.

9. WR Bender B. Rodriguez - INCORRECT
Again, Rodriguez was an impressive earner still on the board. I figured WR could be a fit too. In reality though, Orange County already got that covered with their first pick.

10. LB Thudd Kassel - INCORRECT
Well, mercifully this is the end of this experiment. Clearly I had some difficulty with this, as I only got 4/10 picks even within 2 spots of their actual pick.

Mock Draft Performance: Not Good

Snubbed again

*Draft Notes - SwagSloth - 10-05-2019

I will say, for Arizona, we just didn't have any openings this season (outside of a high TPE DL), so we focused purely on the future. We've got some regression holes coming and we're excited to have answers waiting in the wings.

*Draft Notes - AdamS - 10-06-2019

Xavian Adams is at 211 TPE.
