*The Return of Watchability Rankings - Week 9 - Modern_Duke - 10-27-2019 I wanted to give the scale of this index some context, so I figured I would try an quick experiment to see what the most and least watchable game could really be. Fake Least Watchable Game Team Factor: We'll take the two lowest winning percentages in the league (Philadelphia 0.25 and San Jose 0.125) to get to a measly 0.0313 Offensive Factor: Two lowest scoring teams are San Jose (11.6 points per game) and my beloved Yeti (20.2). Comes to 0.1594 Defensive Factor: Butchers, wyd? How do you only have 2 interceptions on the season? Chicago and San Jose factors average 0.0688 This Frankenstein of unwatchability would get an Index score of 0.2595 Fake Most Watchable Game Team Factor: Yellowknife (.875) and any of the 5-3 teams (.625): 0.5469 Offensive Factor: Austin (29.8) and Baltimore or Yellowknife (29.1): 0.295 Defensive: Yellowknife () and my beloved Yeti (): 0.1494 This perfect amalgalmation of watcahability would get an Index score of .9913 Frankly I think it's kind of neat that I accidentally made a scale with basically a clean high end of 1.000 On to the games: 5. Orange County Otters at San Jose SaberCats ![]() ![]() Team Factor: 0.0781 Offensive Factor: .1856 Defensive Factor: .1138 X Factor: None Watchability Index: 0.3775 Notes: Orange County is actually one of the more watchable teams, but at this point San Jose will drag down the watchability of any opponent. 4. Phildelphia Liberty at Baltimore Hawks ![]() ![]() Team Factor: 0.1250 Offensive Factor: .2575 Defensive Factor: .1238 X Factor: None Watchability Index: 0.5063 Notes: Baltimore's an odd team. They would rival Yellowknife in terms of watchability, except they're only a .500 team somehow. Philly actually isn't out of playoff contention after beating Colorado in Week 8. 3. Austin Copperheads at Chicago Butchers ![]() ![]() Team Factor: 0.1875 Offensive Factor: .2619 Defensive Factor: .0700 X Factor: None Watchability Index: 0.5194 Notes: I said it above, but seriously Chicago, how you manage to only have 2 interceptions thru 8 games? 2. Colorado Yeti at Yellowknife Wraiths ![]() ![]() Team Factor: 0.4375 Offensive Factor: .2469 Defensive Factor: .1494 X Factor: None Watchability Index: 0.8338 Notes: This is the perfect defensive matchup from the example above. Yeti are tops in INT and PDs (not to mention rushing yards allowed), and Yellowknife are #1 in points allowed (not a factor here, but still.) 1. New Orleans Second Line at Arizona Outlaws ![]() ![]() Team Factor: 0.3906 Offensive Factor: .2538 Defensive Factor: .1194 X Factor: Potentially for Sole 1st Place in ASFC +0.10 Watchability Index: 0.8638 Notes: I would have gone even higher on the X Factor if Orange County were not also tied for 1st. New Orleans took the first matchup at home, now Arizona looks for revenge. *The Return of Watchability Rankings - Week 9 - 124715 - 10-28-2019 This is a really cool and interesting article!
