Because I accepted a higher position in Chicago, I’m stepping down as co-gm of Norfolk

Calling it a "higher position" implies that NSFL GMs are more important and DSFL GMs, which is just not the case. DSFL GMs have an incredibly difficult job of introducing new users to the league while trying to maintain activity in their team. They should be commended for the work they do, not put down.

I don’t really see the issue with the wording. For one, he has to step down anyways because he can’t GM two teams. Also, the NSFL is the big-leagues and you have to deal with a greater amount of users. Don’t think he was trying to put anyone down. Although the difference may be minute, I would say that he accepted a “higher position”.
