*Too Soon Draft Analysis - roastfuego - 11-25-2019

I want to start this off by acknoowledging that this is my first season in the NSFL. As such, my grades may not be the best to go off of. However, after analyzing the rosters, the picks, and looking to the future, I have brought you:

RoastFuego's Too Soon Draft Analysis:

NOLA New Orleans Second Line: A-
When you have three first round selections, you better make them count and thats exactly what the Second Line did. Coming out gun's blazing with the pick of Mack Arianlacher and then TE Austin McCormick, two guys who can look to make plays early on for the Secondline. Taking Mason Blaylock at FS was an interesting choice, but the logic behind its selection has me on bard. Add in two LB, a RB, and a K and you have yourself one of the top drafts this year.

SJS San Jose Sabercats: C+
Defense was not on the minds of the Sabercats as all their picks were on the other side of the ball, selecting a QB, RB, and a WR. While the prospects they got are good prospects and will make a difference for the team, I wonder why not try to take a CB or a safety. Focusing on one side of the ball is great, except when you realize you need both sides to help you win games.

CHI Chicago Butchers: B-
This team had their main focus on the offensive side of the ball, using both of their first round selections on dynamic WRs in Sean O'Leary and Sweet James-Jones. It seems the Butchers look to become a high flying offense with these selections, which is great given the talent on offense they have. The Butchers would come back in the second and draft a LB, which is why I give them a slight edge in comparison to the Sabercats, even though both had a focus on offense.

OCO Orange County Otters: B
It does not matter what I give the Otters, as it seems their reign of terror on the league is going to continue this season. That being said, I did like their selections of Kacey Dream and Lazer Eyes. Can never go wrong with stocking up for the future. The selection of QB Brock Phoenix in the second round seems like it might be used for trade bait to a team in desperate need for a qb, so keep an eye on how that develops.

YKW Yellowknife Wraiths: B
The Wraiths had four selections in this draft and had focus on both sides of the ball. In the first they took a dominant DE and solid WR to help out two key positions. The selections of DT and TE were great as well. Do not expect these picks to be insta starters, but rather able to learn from the greatness that is ahead of them. Wraiths are reloading, so do not be surprised to see them succeed again.

BAL Baltimore Hawks: D
Baltimore only had one pick in the draft, and they traded a lot away for the selection. At the end of the day, I do not believe that the selection was worth what was paid up. The Hawks did acquire a great talent, but at what cost? They swapped picks in this draft, traded a pick away from next year (which class looks really good already), traded away a DT and some cap space all to select one DE.

COL Colorado Yetis: C
Colorado only selected a kicker and a CB this draft, but were able to make a trade with NOLA for a pick in the second round next year and a bit of cap room. S20 draft class looks really good, regardless of what the draft announcers may say, so overall I think the Yetis are good in the future. As for this draft, the selections they did get were average at best, landing them a C ranking.

PHI Philadelphia Liberty: B
The Liberty didnt draft until the 17th pick, but boy did they get a steal and my pick for the steal of the draft in QB Blocksdale. Not only that, but they were able to get a DT, some cap space, and a second round pick next year in a trade with Baltimore. Liberty went on to draft a TE and a S that may not be playing much for them, but with the steal of the draft in both a pick and a trade, I'd say Liberty fans should be happy.

ARI Arizona Outlaws: C-
Arizona was able to get some good talent on their roster. The problem is it was all near the end of the draft which makes it a bit risky. If the users end up being active, this grade goes up to a B. If they dont, then most of their picks are by the wayside. Here's hoping it is not the later. For now, I will stick in the middle and either be overly optimistic or super underestimated.

AUS Austin Copperheads: N/A
The Copperheads traded away all their picks for cap space and an investment into next years class which looks to be deep and really good. Sadly, because no picks were selected, I cant really evaluate the team. You escaped me this time Austin.

Honorable mention: Soup A+
The draft was delayed this year a bit due to 'technical difficulties'. However, the real reason it was all delayed was due to AdamS making some tomato soup with cheese bread. This lead to some tweets, like this and this. It's moments like these that really make the sim ebjoyable. I really hope it was fantastic and soup does not delay the DSFL draft on Monday!

And thats my grades. Feel free to tell me what I got right and what I drastically got wrong. Have a great day!

I don't think it is - pretty sure Baltimore's grade move up from a D- to a D. Huzzah!!

... actually upon comparing the two media's, Blatimore's draft grade stayed the same. BOOOOOO!!

one of those weird unexpected matrix glitches.

Don't take my grade complaints to hard. It's awesome that you've put in the effort to write about a topic you're just learning about. Be more than happy to discuss the finer reasons Baltimore made the trade, i'm on discord under the same username.
