*NSFL Week 1 Stars - Modern_Duke - 12-03-2019

Welcome to my weekly media series for this season, Stars! Or helmet stickers! Or game balls? I never fell in love with a specific name for it, but for now I'm going with Stars. The way this will work is, for each game there will 5 players highlighted, 3 from the winning team and 2 from the losing team. The best/most valuable/most impactful performance on the winning team will receive 3 stars, then the next two top performers will receive 2 stars and 1 star. I decided to only award two players on the losing team (since they obviously couldn't have been *that* impactful), so the losing team's players will only get 2 stars and 1 star. And then I'll keep track of the cumulative totals and some other fun stuff throughout the year. If that explanation didn't make sense it may be easier to understand in practice, so let's get to the Week 1 Stars:

Philadelphia Liberty PHI (31) at Yellowknife Wraiths YKW (27)
Philadelphia
3 Stars: Richard D'Attoria V
9 Tackles, 2 Sacks, 4 PD, 3 Int, 1 TD

Well, right off the bat it looks like we have a very likely candidate for Performance of the Year. Super impressive game.

2 Stars: Adriana Falconi
24/37 288 Yards, 2 TD, 106.6 Rating

Some say Falconi has started to lose it, but you wouldn't know it based on this game.

1 Stars: Nacho Varga
7 Receptions, 109 Yards, 1 TD

I wanted to give it to Dropson, but can't really justify it over Varga.

Yellowknife
2 Stars: Maurice Virtanen
5 Tackles, 4 TFL

A bright spot for the Wraiths was the run defense, holding Torenson to 3.2 yards per carry. Virtanen's 4 TFL were the main culprit.

1 Star: Sunnycursed
9 Receptions, 104 Yards, 2 TD

Nice game from the aging Sunnycursed. Hanyadi was another candidate, with over 120 total yards.

Baltimore Hawks BAL (17) at Chicago Butchers CHI (10)
Baltimore
3 Stars: Ludiculo Bigby
29 Carries, 157 Yards, 2 Receptions, 23 Yards

Easily the best RB performance of the week despite not finding the endzone.

2 Stars: Marquees Acho
16 Tackles, 1 TFL

Most of the credit should go the defense for this win. Acho had a busy day, and was the leading tackler of week 1.

1 Star: Xandra Troyski
4 Tackles, 2 PD, 1 Int, 1 TD

Have to give props to the pass defense for limiting Rose Jenkins, and specifically Troyski for scoring what ending up being the winning touchdown.

Chicago
2 Stars: Guy Nikko
13 Tackles, 3 PD

Butchers pass defense was pretty stout, led by Nikko's 3 PDs.

1 Star: Aksel Danielsson
36 Carries, 121 Yards

Not particularly efficient, but carried the load for the offense.

Austin Copperheads AUS (17) at Colorado Yeti COL (22)
Colorado
3 Stars: Mo Berry
8 Tackles, 2 Sacks, 1 PD, 1 Safety

Berry not only stuffed the stat sheet, but made two big plays in the game-deciding 4th quarter red zone stand.

2 Stars: Jim McMahon
3 Receptions, 46 Yards, 1 TD

Yeti's leading receiver in his debut, and scored the game winning touchdown.

1 Stars: Ashley Owens
27 Carries, 93 Yards, 4 Receptions, 25 Yards

Backfield mate Michael Vincent was more efficient, but Owens was the focal point of the offense.

Austin
2 Stars: Rod Tidwell
4 Receptions, 122 Yards, 1 TD

Ate up yards in chunks and simply refused to be tackled, especially on his 37 yard TD in the 1st quarter.

1 Star: Chase Jensen
11 Tackles, 1 PD, 1 Int, 1 TD

The reigning defensive back of the year continues to impress.

San Jose Saber Cats SJS (0) at Arizona Outlaws ARI (62)
Arizona
3 Stars: Andrew Reese
29/47 353 Yards, 6 TD, 124.4 Rating

Another early candidate for Performance of the Year.

2 Stars: Saba Donut
7 Receptions, 62 Yards, 3 TD

Oles and Landers may have had statistically better games, but Donut is the one responsible for setting the tone and making this a rout in the first place, with all 3 touchdowns coming in the first quarter.

1 Star: Lucas Knight
5 Tackles, 2 PD, 2 Int

62 points is no doubt impressive, but don't forget the defense pitching a shut out. Dan Wright had a measly 8.2 Rating, primarily due to two turnovers caused by Knight.

San Jose
2 Stars: Cameron Olsen
3 Receptions, 45 Yards

1 Star: Action Jackson
4 Receptions, 40 Yards

Unsurprisingly stars were hard to find here. And I just can't give them to defensive players when they allowed 62.

New Orleans Second Line NOLA (16) at Orange County Otters OCO (26)
Orange County
3 Stars: Alex D
4/4 FG, 2/2 XP, 76 Long Punt

Yes, the kicker. With 14 points he nearly outscored New Orleans by himself. Also had a nice day punting.

2 Stars: Jaylen Storm
4 Tackles, 1 PD, 1 Int

Storm's interception late in the fourth quarter stopped a potential game tying drive and set up an Alex D field goal to all but clinch the game.

1 Star: Gary Lazer-Eyes
9 Tackles, 1 Sack, 1 FF

Another impressive rookie debut.

New Orleans
2 Stars: Johnny Slothface
11 Tackles, 1 Sack, 2 PD

To the Second Line's credit, Franklin Armstrong was mostly held in check, led by Slothface's busy day.

1 Star: Forrest Gump
11 Carries, 48 Yards, 4 Receptions, 30 Yards

The addition of Marcella Toriki will surely take a bite out of Gump's usage. Here he had an efficient day, but on only 15 touches.

League Leaders
t-1. Richard D'Attoria V (3)
t-1. Ludiculo Bigby (3)
t-1. Mo Berry (3)
t-1. Andrew Reese (3)
t-1. Alex D (3)

*NSFL Week 1 Stars - Dylandeluxe - 12-04-2019

I feel like any other week Thudd would have gotten at least one star lmao! Just got outshined by some other ridiculous games.

*NSFL Week 1 Stars - Duilio05 - 12-04-2019

This is great stuff. The Hawks give the game ball to Troyski for the game winning TD.

*NSFL Week 1 Stars - roastfuego - 12-04-2019

Can someone do this for the DSFL active teams when the index starts working?
