*DSFL Week 11, 12, 13, and 14 Highlights - IsaStarcrossed - 12-30-2019 Week 11 Grey Ducks 16 over Buccaneers 10 - The Grey Ducks needed to bounce back after their last few weeks. They were in a slump, seemed to be struggling, and they needed anything to get morale going back in the right direction. They got it here with a massive win over the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers. After their offense struggled for three consecutive weeks, Darrel Williams had an incredibly clutch game with 140 yards on the ground and an average of 5 yards per touch. He seemed near unstoppable all night long and he set his team up for success time and time again. golden_apricot (Silver Banana) was put in position to score for this team and he did not disappoint as he was three for three from range. Led by Hal Fassingit’s three tackles for a loss and a sack, the Grey Ducks defense smothered the Buccaneers all game and kept them to one of their lowest point totals this season. On the other side, FrostbiteB5 (Dax Frost) had an interception in his first game seeing the field and AdamS (Awkward Sexjoke) and BigUnitBabs (Bobby Boucher) played very well along the defensive line, combining four tackles for a loss and two sacks. Their play is the only reason this game didn’t look uglier than it was. Luchadores 30 over Seawolves 30 - With the Seawolves coming into town, the Luchadores knew they had a chance to really allow their stars to shine in this one. And boy did they shine. KC15 (Jed Podolak) rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns with a 7.3 yard per carry average. It was one of the most impressive and efficient games he’s had and every time he touched the ball, magic happened. He was able to combine with some consistent bell cow work with rookie waiver grab Wombat (Ed Barker) to really grind this game out on the ground. They were able to lean so hard on the run in large part due to an impressive defensive effort. It was a sack party led by W.Sconnie (Inspectah Deck) and his two sacks, but everyone wanted to get involved as KoltClassic (Otis Allen), munkysnuflz (Daniel Winkler), and others got involved as well. For two of these guys, they got to start their careers off early with impact plays and Tijuana couldn’t be happier with their additions to the team. Pythons 31 over Coyotes 10 - The Pythons were at home against the Coyotes and they knew that they needed to put this one away to remain ahead of the Grey Ducks. Put this one away they did. It was all offense all the time for Portland as they managed to run up almost 500 yards against what had been a solid Coyotes defense this season. Outside of McTaco’s 98 yard run, there were no real standout plays. It was just consistent offensive dominance all game long. Jah Bur’Berry showed off his skills as usual with a very solid 80 yards and a touchdown, but it was the new rookie additions to the team that really allowed him to open things up. Rashad James (Raheem Okusi) saw his first action and hauled in four catches. He had a 30 yarder that set the Pythons up for a score, a 17 yarder that converted a 3rd and 10 and led to his first touchdown of his career, and a 7 yarder that converted a 3rd and 7. It was an impressive first game for him. Then we got to see the debut of Swagsloth (Baby Yoda). He managed to grind out 89 all purpose yards in his first action, averaging 5.9 yards every time he touched the ball. This offense with their new weapons seemed absolutely uncontainable as they steamrolled what once was considered one of the better defenses in the DSFL. Week 12 Buccaneers 41 over Seawolves 3 - After a tough week 11, the Buccaneers were looking for a revenge game. Unfortunately, the hapless Seawolves were stumbling into town. They went back to their roots and the two headed monster of siddhus (Siddhu Sarvepally) and Ricardo Rose got started early and often in this one. They carried the bulk of the workload and combined for 200 yards and four touchdowns between them, proving their overwhelming dominance when the Buccaneer run game is working. They had some help though a Vex (Jacoby Clay) had one of his best games, hauling in six passes for 94 yards and five of his catches went for first down in long yardage situations. He showed his ability to be a reliable option in the passing game when his number is called. Defensively they had a bounce back game as well with nunccoepi (Immanuel Blackstone) bringing in the first sack of his career and FrostbiteB5 (Dax Frost) scoring on his first ever pick six in just his second game. That said, it was the veteran leadership who really shined as Kacey Dream absolutely smothered the defensive backfield, picking off three different passes and reminding everyone why he is one of the best coverage guys in the NSFL. This was an overwhelmingly positive game for the Buccaneers and one they needed to keep their heads up. Luchadores 41 over Coyotes 3 - Sometimes there is a game that looks just as lopsided on the field as it does on paper. For the DSFL this week? This was that game. Dominance in every form of the word. With the addition of Wombat (Ed Barker), this rushing attack looks like it may have a legitimate dual threat that teams are going to have to fear. He and KC15 (Jed Podolak) managed to rack up a combined 211 yards and two scores on the ground with Barker himself racking up a massive 6.1 yards per carry. He looks primed to add something special to this offense. He wasn’t the only one though as iamslm22 (Avon Blocksdale Jr) had a big day and managed to hit 8 different receivers with completions. Few were bigger than his touchdown passes, two to Randy Vuxta and another to newcomer howiejriii (Rusty Nails). Defensively, it was really the W.Sconnie (Inspectah Deck) show has he racked up eight tackles, two of which for losses and another was a sack. All in all he allowed only an average of 1.1 yards per attempt towards his side of the field as he absolutely smothered the Coyotes rushing attack. Mix this with his fumble recovery being one of only two turnovers on the night for the Luchadores and his impact was clearly invaluable. The Luchadores ran away with this one and look strong heading into the last game of the season. Grey Ducks 17 over Pythons 7 - If the Grey Ducks wanted to keep themselves alive for possibly sealing their conference’s first seed, they had to win this one. It wasn’t remotely optional. And when they needed that win the most, it was the guys they’ve leaned on all season that stepped up. Darrel Williams managed to grind out 149 yards on the ground, controlling the clock for the Grey Ducks. casserole (Tash Thompson) was as consistent as always, converting three huge first downs to set the Grey Ducks up for success and keep the Pythons offense off the field. Acsolap (Thor Kirkby) and Hal Fassingit were absolutely dominant at the line of scrimmage, holding Portland’s McTaco to only 3.6 yards per carry and 25 yards total, by far his worst mark of the season. Mix this with great play from the special teams including a punt return touchdown and the Grey Ducks showed they are still scrappy and not going out without a fight. This was a classic Grey Ducks game played in the Grey Ducks style. Hard running, tough defense. We’ll see if they can keep it up as playoffs approach. Week 13 Buccaneers 17 over Luchadores 13 - This game was an odd one for everyone involved. It was truly a tale of two halves in which it looked like on paper that the Luchadores did everything they needed to seal the deal in this one. iamslm22 (Avon Blocksdale Jr) started off strong with the first possession of the game, stringing together one of his best drives of the season. He completed 5 of 7 passes for 59 yards and looked near unstoppable before AdamS (Awkward Sexjoke) took him down in the backfield for a seven yard loss, holding the Luchadores to just a field goal. The offense never really looked the same after that. Even so, thanks to a fumble by the Buccaneers and two clutch interceptions close to the goal line by both Victor Moreno and Jay_Doctor (Mason Blaylock), the Luchadores escaped the first quarter up 13 to 0. The second half told a different story. Early in the third, RainDelay22 (Rayne Gordon) hauled in a massive 23 yard catch on 3rd and 11 that set up the Bucaneers for their first points of the game. With them in striking distance, the Buccaneers settled down and ran the same game plan they had all season. A heavy dose of siddhus (Siddhu Sarvepally) and Ricardo Rose. Rose got the lion’s share of the carries in this one and on his 24 rushes, managed to grind out 100 yards and two touchdowns. But as always, Sarvepally came up clutch with his 5.2 yards per carry as he consistently converted for Myrtle Beach and seven of his rushes went for first downs. Once the Buccaneers got rolling the never looked back and a huge hit by AdamS (Awkward Sexjoke) late in the fourth forced a fumble that basically iced this one. Coyotes 23 over Pythons 20 - In a week where the Pythons needed to win both games to stay ahead of the surging Grey Ducks, this was a game they could not afford to drop. And when you look at the fact they out gained the Coyotes 401 yards to just 191, you would imagine this was an absolute stomp. Unfortunately, it never really felt like the Pythons were in this one. Swagsloth (Baby Yoda) had an inspired day as he led his team with 135 all purpose yards, Jah Bur’Berry put together multiple clutch catches, and defensively they seemed to smother the Coyotes offensive efforts. Unfortunately for the Pythons, none of it mattered due to a couple of ill timed turnovers that resulted directly in points for the Coyotes and multiple mishaps on special teams as they allowed returns of 26, 44, and 78 yards that put the Coyotes in business again and again. I don’t see these same mistakes happening again in the playoffs, but it may be too late. Grey Ducks 24 over Seawolves 14 - It seems that the Grey Ducks have found themselves. They came in needing to close out strong to secure themselves first place in the NFC and they did just that by playing their style. It has become a signature of the Grey Ducks that I didn’t think they’d be able to maintain. Hard running, tough defense, low scoring. Its their identity and it has gotten them to this point. As always they ran Darrel Williams for the bulk of the game and he rewarded their confidence with 138 yards and 6.8 yards per carry. Now he has a little help though as he got an assist from Barry (Logan Noble Jr) who added another 68 yards on the ground and a touchdown in this one. Then on the defensive side we saw Acsolap (Thor Kirkby) having a massive game. He managed to make plays that forced four punts in this game as well as making the game sealing tackle at the end of the fourth quarter that forced a turnover on downs. This was a strong effort by the Grey Ducks and brought them their third win in a row. Week 14 Luchadores 13 over Seawolves 3 - The Luchadores looked sleepy to close out the season as this one was much closer than they probably had hoped. In a game where they seemed to struggle offensively, Tijuana had to rely on the consistent 5.8 yards per carry of KC15 (Jed Podolak) and the leg of KanakoSquirrel (Jordan Jackson) to get anything really going in this one. It was their front seven on defense that were really the unsung heroes in this one as they racked up six sacks and a tackle for a loss, pinning down the Seawolves and limiting their ability to get anything going offensively. KoltClassic (Otis Allen) made his presence known early in his career as he put up an impressive two sack game and gave everyone a taste of what they can expect next season. It was a long, ground out game in which the Seawolves showed some heart against the titans of the DSFL. For the Luchadores, they did just enough to win and enter the playoffs as the league’s number one seed. Buccaneers 26 over Pythons 7 - The Pythons came in knowing that every game mattered if they wanted to lock in the first seed of the NFC. The Buccaneers came in looking for one more strong finish before they had to go on the road against Tijuana in the playoffs. One of these two teams got what they were looking for. Portland looked completely outmatched in this one and their only real highlight was a touchdown reception by Rashad James (Raheem Okusi) on their first drive of the game. Nothing really seemed to go their way from that point forward. siddhus (Siddhu Sarvepally) looked like he had something to prove out there as he had an absolutely monstrous game. 129 yards and two touchdowns at 8.6 yards per carry. He was absolutely electric and every time he touched the ball, he looked primed for a big play. Mix this in with support from Vex (Jacoby Clay) who converted two massive third downs that led to Buccaneer points and also hauled in a touchdown of his own and this offense looked unstoppable. Defensively, the Buccaneers leaned on the same guys that have stepped up all season. Cortastrophe (Kacey Dream) forced two more turnovers to close out what has been potentially an MVP season for him and their front seven spent the whole game in the Pythons’ backfield, really unsettling Cue and their run game. the_suave1 (Rico Suave) and nunccoepi (Immanuel Blackstone) recorded their first sacks of their young careers while AdamS (Awkward Sexjoke) and BigUnitBabs (Bobby Boucher) remained as dominant as they have been all season. It was a very solid team effort that showed the Buccaneers may be truly ready to compete with Tijuana in this conference. Grey Ducks 24 over Coyotes 6 - It is hard to know where to start with this game as it was an incredible team effort by the Grey Ducks. Offensively they were nearly perfect. 28 first downs to 8, 491 yards to 148, 37:35 to 22:25 in time of possession. It was an absolutely dominant win by the ducks. Zach Vega put together a nearly perfect game as he was able to minimize mistakes and only have three incompletions the entire game. casserole (Tash Thompson) had arguably her best game of the season as she hauled in eight catches for 114 yards. The defense had no true individual standouts, but as a unit they were suffocating when they had to be on the field. The Coyotes only were allowed 12 drives in this game and they forced punts on 10 of the 12. That said, all of this was made possible by the incredibly efficiency of their run game. Darrel Williams and Barry (Logan Noble Jr) combined for 269 yards and a touchdown as they averaged more than 5 yards a touch and almost never went backwards. Their ability to constantly move forward and convert time and time again allowed for the Grey Ducks to control this game in every possible way. Minnesota had 28 first downs in this game, 18 of them were carried on the ground by that combination. It was an impressive showing that proved its hard to compete against this team when their game plan really comes together. *DSFL Week 11, 12, 13, and 14 Highlights - Jay_Doctor - 12-30-2019 ![]() ![]() ![]() |
