*An Analysis of the S21 Rookie Class - MN_Moosey - 01-10-2020 An analysis of the S21 draft class. With the DSFL draft looming in the distance I thought it was appropriate to take a moment to quickly analyze the group of rookies who will be selected. This class is deep with a whopping 95 registered rookies. I will start with the deepest position and work my way down. WR (14 prospects) There are lots of wide receivers in this draft class. Plenty of spots have opened up from the NSFL draft so there should be plenty picked in the DSFL draft. Raheem Okusi: Okusi has the speed to run down the field and the agility to juke defenders. His biggest downside is his hands. If he can get those improved, he will be a solid receiver. Look to him as more of a kick return kind of guy to start. Scotty McGuy: He has the best hands in the draft class for receivers. His speed is a tick behind others, but you won’t see him dropping as many catches. If he can get the speed to the level of others the he will certainly shine in the league. Jerome Davis: Looks to be a solid receiver. He has the hands to catch passes and the speed to move down the field. His agility is a big plus, but his endurance is lacking. He should slot in nicely on any roster. Everett Woodward: Has top level speed and hands. Will catch passes with ease and move down the field with a block or two. His agility is his weak spot so he may go down to tackles from the backfield easily. Jade Bridges: Has a quality toolset of speed and hands. Endurance looks to be top level, but the agility isn’t quite there. Won’t break tackles easily but can get you the yards you need when you need them. Rusty Nails: One of the most balanced receivers with great speed, agility, and hands. He can be a big threat both on offense and special teams with his three main tools. Chris Kross: Has all the tools to be a good receiver. Good speed to move down the field and on routes and the agility to shake off some defenders. His hands are top notch and will be a great addition to any team. Smolder Bravestone: He has the speed and agility to run the field effectively. The only weakness is his hands and endurance. He is a bit behind his competition in those regards but could improve those easily to match the others in his class. Keval Shah: Has the potential to be a good receiver but is a bit behind in everything but speed. He won’t miss a ton of passes, but his catch percentage might drop. His speed is high so he can close the throw gap a lot more easily so that could help his weaknesses. Alyx Sabor: One of the bigger receivers in this class. Has elite level speed to run routes and create space between defenders. Has a glaring weakness in the catching department. If hands can improve, he will be top level talent. Red Arrow: Balance is key with this prospect. Has fantastic tools to be a great receiver. The speed and endurance to run off defenders with the agility to avoid them when they get too close. Hands are there and will catch a lot of passes as a receiver of his size. Grand Salami: Has the speed and agility to move the field effectively. Has a bit of strength to break tackles as well. Hands are the weakness but even then, it isn’t a huge hole in his game. Justice Green: A veteran recreate. Clearly looks to be a star with speed. Doesn’t have the hands to handle deep passes but will work effectively with shorter passes of around 10-15 yards. Looks to him as a big name coming into the draft. Remon Kurisuto: A speedy receiver for sure. Speed is the primary tool with a secondary in agility. Hands are lacking compared to others in the class. He is active and will certainly look to improve on those weaknesses. Notes: Lots of speed in this group. Not many prospects with great hands. Look for that to be the deciding factor between a few of these guys. Top Picks: Red Arrow, Justice Green, Rusty Nails RB (13 prospects) With 13 prospects to go through, I will have to be brief in any analysis since a lot of this will be me repeating the same stuff. With two teams in the DSFL being given the rights to human players, there is certainly a need at every position for the most part. A lot of teams look to the running game as a primary way to score so this position will be at a premium. Logan Noble Jr: Starting things off with a player recreate. Noble Jr has some solid speed and hands with a good amount of agility. Being a receiving back could prove more versatile but does not allow for the highest ceiling in the speed department where the running back can shine. Baby Yoda: Yoda is a lot like Noble Jr but with better hands which is a key for any receiving back. A little lower on the speed compared to his competitors but he is not as far behind as you may think. He looks to be a solid option at the position. Nick Domenichini: Certainly, one of the strongest back in this class, he looks to tear through the defense and gain more valuable yards. Speed is about average for a running back and the hands are lacking a bit which is not a bad thing when you are looking to just carry the ball. Less active than the other prospects. Austin Brehio: Brehio looks to be a hybrid between wide receiver and running back with great hands and speed with agility not far behind. Another solid receiving back in a position with a ton of depth. Ed Barker: Speed, speed, and more speed. The highest speed back in this draft class. Once Barker is free of the defense, good luck catching him. The agility is lacking a bit so he won’t be able to shake a ton of defenders but if the offensive line does their job, he should get plenty of yards. Matt Meagher: Nothing too stand out here. Just an all-around good running back. Has the speed to get good yards and the strength to break tackles. Has the hands to catch some passes as well. Everything is there to be a good running back. Nick Nation: Fantastic speed on this guy. Not only can he run, he has some good strength to break tackles so he can just keep running. If the agility improves, it will be hard to stop this man when he gets through the defensive line. Rando Cardrissian: He’s got the power and speed to be a fantastic back. His agility is a plus, but he won’t be catching any passes anytime soon. Keep him on the ground and he will shine. Horacio Espinoza: Another receiving back in the class. He has good speed and hands with major upside in agility and endurance. Not the most active of players but won’t go completely silent. Tequila Sunrise: Good speed and hands to be a solid receiving back. Has some room to grow in agility and strength but will be a solid addition to any team. Will be active and support the team. Andrew Nova: Has speed for days but needs to increase strength and agility to be the most effective. A good offensive line can help here but without one he might be struggling to produce. Juniped Catfish: Speed and agility are the highlight points here. Getting good training could cause him to be hard to pin down. Has the hands to catch a few passes when needed. Activity is high and is looking to help any team. Robin Reynolds: Has the highest speed in the draft class. Lacks the strength to break tackles but has the agility to break ankles. Hands are lacking so best to keep him on the ground where he is most effective. Notes: Lots of receiving and speed backs in this class. Only a few high strength guys out there so they could be used in a tandem with a higher speed guy. Top picks: Logan Noble Jr, Baby Yoda, Juniped Catfish DE (11 prospects) Defensive end is a needed position and there are a lot of guys here to fill those holes. Look for this position to get taken early and often in the draft. Immanuel Blackstone: Has the looks of a great pass rusher. Has fantastic speed and strength to break through the offensive line but is a bit lacking in tackling ability. Should be able to get a few sacks and maybe a forced fumble with how quickly he can get to the passer. Daniel Winkler: Has great speed and strength. He can get through the offensive line and pressure the passer with ease. Has plus agility for getting around blockers. Weakest point is tackling. Jay Palmer: The man with the highest speed in his class. His biggest weak spot is his strength and agility which is a step behind his fellow defensive ends. Looks to be an easy improvement so he can pair it well with his speed. Matt Hole: Another speedy pass rusher. Is a step behind his competition when it comes to development. Does have a solid foundation of strength and agility that he can build on. Dorfus Jimbo: A top speed rusher with an excellent secondary tool in his strength. Should be able to break through lines easily and chase down the passer with that speed. Jackmerius Tacktheritrix: A very strong defensive end. Has the speed to close in on opposition and the strength to break through the line. Has a good tool in his tackling ability so he should be looking at a good amount of sacks in the season. Chip Otle: A good two tool player. Has exceptional speed and strength to break through lines and attack the opposing passer. Does have less agility than his colleagues but makes up for it with his strength at the line. Larry Longshot: Another heavy speed defensive end. Has a good base for tackling but lacks the strength needed to burst through the line effectively. Agility is alright but could see room for improvement if the strength does not develop. Kubee Krusher: A good mix of speed and strength. Should be able to break the line and attack the passer on a regular basis. Tackling is the area that needs work but has the fundamentals to do so. Can be active at times. Hunter Young: Has fantastic strength. Tackling skill is a big plus along with agility. Speed is a bit low but will be able to get through lines with ease without having elite level speed. Should be able to get some sacks and forced fumbles. Jeff Personsacker: A great strength and speed combo. Agility is lacking but should be able to tear through the offensive line to get through to the passer. Look for him to be a solid locker room guy who can tear it up on the field. Notes: Lots of speed and power. Can’t really go wrong with any of these guys. Top picks: Immanuel Blackstone, Jeff Personsacker, Kubee Krusher LB (9 prospects) Bubba Twatford: Has a great mix of speed and agility to track down receivers and keep pace with running backs. Strength and tackling are in need for improvement to increase ability to take down opposing players. Douglas Quaid: Has fantastic speed and agility combo. Looks to be a very versatile defensive player. Tackling and strength could improve to combo with the speed and agility to make him a great pro lineman. Gregor Macgregor: A veteran recreate with lots of upside. Has top level speed, strength, and tackling ability. Looks to be a well rounded versatile defensive player that is ready to take on the league once more. Holden Summers: Has very average skillset. Nothing truly stands out compared to other linebackers. Has a great sense for the game and shouldn’t cause many penalties. Has some ability to intercept passes. Feels more like a hybrid free safety but can improve in all areas to be a well rounded defensive player. Ty Palmatier: Has the tools to be a good defensive player. Has the strength to break lines and attack the passer with his speed. Tackling ability is good and can close gaps between runners with ease. Dixon Uraz: Has the speed and agility to close gaps with runners and play in the backfield when needed. Lacks the strength to break the offensive line effectively. Has the ability to pick passes and run it back for a touchdown. Ryan Scott: Has fantastic speed and tackling ability. Should be able to limit yardage and track down receivers with the secondary. Pass rush ability isn’t as high as other linebackers but will slot into any defense with ease. Trevor Mouseman: Has one of the highest speeds among linebackers. He has great tackling ability to pair with the speed. Strength and agility are lacking but he can still close gaps and get the tackle. Perry Tucker Jr: The son of a game legend. Has the tools to be a great defender. Strength and speed are plus attributes with ok agility and tackling ability. Should be able to pass rush with ease and close gaps with runners. Notes: Lots of variety at the position. Cannot go wrong with any of the prospects. Top pick: Douglas Quaid, Gregor Macgregor, Perry Tucker Jr TE (9 prospects) Tight end is one of the most versatile offensive positions being able to be a receiver, running back, or lineman. Lots were taking in the NSFL draft so look for lots to be taken from this group. Osiris Firestorm-Fjord: A great all-around tight end. Has the hands and speed to be an effective receiving option while having the strength to hold his own on the line to make blocks. Agility is the only area where he is lacking. Shakir Ahmed: Has a good mix of everything but doesn’t standout in any particular area. Speed is lower compared to other tight ends but has the skills to be a great check down receiver and can perform some great blocks at the line. Tree Gelbman: Has the tools to be a great receiving option. Has some soft hands to make some tough catches. Strength and agility won’t wow anyone but can certainly hold her own at the line. Leon McDavid: A great mix of skills. Has good speed and hands to make plays on the reception. Does have good strength to perform blocks and break tackles. Agility is a bit low and could see some improvement. Gronk Robertowski: A strong capable blocking tight end. Has the strength to produce pancakes at a high rate. Can be a receiving option if no others are open on the field. Michael Henson: Has the speed and hands to be a top receiving target on the field. Does have the strength to break tackles and perform some blocks but that will not be his primary role. Rainier Wolfcastle: Has fantastic hands. What he lacks in speed he makes up for in his pure catching ability. Strength and blocking are on the weaker side, but he should be an offensive threat either way. Reynaud Haugland: He has a good mix of everything. No single skill is focused on. Has the speed and hands to be a good receiving option while having the strength and blocking to open routes for runners. Rub A. Chikin: Has fantastic speed. Should be able to move down the field with ease. Hands are a bit lacking but will make the routine catch. Has alright strength to block defenders to open up a run route. Notes: A very wide mix of receiving talent and great blockers. A lot of these players should be taken early. Top picks: Osiris Firestorm-Fjord, Leon McDavid, Rainier Wolfcastle CB (8 prospects) Dax Frost: Has elite speed and agility to track down receivers and gain ground on them when going in for the tackle. Does not have the best tackling but can close in quick to make up for that weakness. Speedo Meter: Has a great balance of speed and agility to keep up with receivers. Can close in quick but does not have the greatest tackling ability. Rotticus Scott: Is one of the slower backfield players. Could be outrun by receivers but makes up for it with the ability to get to the ball and knock it down or get an interception. Has good game sense and shouldn’t take too many penalties. Jeremy Quellers: Has a good mix of speed and agility to work the backfield effectively. Should be able to hold his own against receivers and might even get a pick or two. Jack Marnette: Has good speed but could be outran by receivers. Has a good game sense and tackling ability. Has the potential to read passes and get interceptions. Churro Chest: Has about average speed for a corner back. Has better tackling and interception ability compared to others. In combination, can become a top secondary player. Atlas Quin: Has a good mix of speed and agility to roam the backfield effectively. Is lacking in strength and tackling ability but does have a plus in hands to possibly get to passes before the receiver. HeHateMe PickSix: Probably one of the best names in the draft. Has elite level speed and good agility to combo with. Lacks strength and tackling to halt runners but does posses the hands needed to block passes and maybe get a pick. Note: Man to man is the most used archetype with a lot of corners having 80+ speed. Top picks: Dax Frost, HeHateMe PickSix, Rotticus Scott S (8 prospects) Another backfield position of high need. These prospects should be taken often along with the cornerbacks to bolster the backfield of a team’s defense. Matt Murphy: Has a good mix of speed and agility to work the backfield. He also possesses the strength and tackling ability to limit forward yardage. Hands could be a plus attribute as he is about on par with cornerbacks. Dillard Holcombe: Speed and agility is where this prospect shines. Has great tackling ability but is lacking the strength needed to take down bigger running backs. Has some hands so could be a pass blocking threat. Jeffrey LaVert: Has exceptional speed and agility to run the field and get position on opposing players. Strength is a bit weaker but should be able to get the tackle on most receivers and backs. Has some hands to block passes but is not his primary role. Rico Suave: Has elite speed to pair with great agility. Is more like a converted corner as he is lacking the strength needed to play closer to the line. Does posses some tackling ability and has hands to knock down passes. JZ: Has a good skill set of speed and agility. Does not have the strength to play strong safety so will likely be in more of a free safety role. Has decent tackling and should be able to get his hands on some passes. Rusty Shackleford: Speed is a little lower than other safeties but makes up for it with great hands. Should be able to get some picks throughout the season and deny passes to receivers. Herb Altee: Has the lowest speed of any safety but does have the agility to make up for it. Will likely play closer to the line where he can utilize his strength and tackling ability. Jon Bois: Has average speed and agility for the position. Has a good basis of strength and tackling to stop running backs from getting too far down the field. Will likely play closer to the line but can keep up with receivers as well. Notes: A good mix of free and strong safeties. It’s all about team need when picking and choosing who to take. Top picks: Jeffery LaVert, JZ, Herb Altee DT (7 prospects) Defensive tackles are always a position of need. Setting the team up to be great defensively is a huge advantage in this league. Pete “Plop” Miller: Has exceptional strength. Should be able to hold the line and keep runners from having any room to work with. Does have great speed for a tackle. Can close those gaps easier than others but lacks an elite tackling ability which needs to improve. Otis Allen: Has a nice little mix of speed and strength to be a secondary pass rusher. Should be able to put the pressure on when the defensive ends can’t get through. Does lack some tackling ability. Sardine Beaner: Another tackle with great speed and strength. Should be able to limit rushing yardage and can keep up with some running backs to make the tackle. Jaune Arc: Has a good mix of speed and strength to bolster the defensive line and limit running backs from getting through. Does lack some tackling ability and will likely be used as a line holder. Riles McTackle: Has the strength and tackling ability to take down nearly anyone. Does lack that closing speed and agility needed to keep up with running backs when they break through the defensive line. Rapid Eagle: Has a good mix of strength and tackling to hold the line and take down anyone who tries to get through. A bit lower on the speed but should be able to close some gaps and make the takedown. Cam’ron West: Has elite level of strength and will hold his own against offensive linemen. Has some closing speed to catch running backs and make the tackle. Notes: Two types of tackles: high speed and low tackling or high strength and tackling but low speed and agility. In combination, the two can work well together. Top picks: Otis Allen, Cam’ron West, Rapid Eagle K/P (6 prospects) Kickers and punters are always needed in the league. They won’t make huge plays, but they can come up clutch to win tight games. Dougie Smalls: Has good accuracy and should make short range field goals and extra points with ease. Lacking power to make the long punt or field goal. J.J. Jay-Jaymison: Has great power in his leg. Will likely be used as a punter to get the ball as far down field as possible. Could be used to make the occasional field goal or extra point when needed. Colbourne Frost: Has a good mix of accuracy and power. Will be used wherever the coach sees fit. Can hit field goals from a good range and punt for some solid yardage. Lefty Louis: Great kicking power and accuracy. Will make the tough field goals and nail extra points with ease. Can punt for decent yardage as well. John “Tripod” Smirh: Has great leg power. Can punt like there’s no tomorrow. Lacks accuracy to make a high percentage of field goals but should get the extra point most of the time. Thelonius Junk: Has the power and accuracy to be a well-rounded kicking option. Can get a little over average yardage on punts and can make the tough field goals when needed. Notes: Not much to say. It’s kickers. Pick who you like the best, I guess. Top picks: Colbourne Frost, Lefty Louis, J.J. Jay-Jaymison QB (6 prospects) Not a lot of need for quarterbacks in this draft. A lot of positions are filled, and none were taken in the NSFL draft this season. A new player team does have an opening for a main starter but most of these guys will be by committee. Leonard Jacobs: Has a great arm on him and can throw with good accuracy. Lacks the footspeed to run out of the pocket when pressured but has strength to break some tackles and stay on his feet. George O’Donnell: Has a good sense of the game and can read the field with ease. Has the arm to make long throws and do it with accuracy. Cannot run well or break tackles. Cal Lidous: Has a great mix of skills as a quarterback. Has a strong arm to make long throws and do it accurately. Has the footspeed to get some yards when forced out of the pocket. Zero Two: Has the arm to make the long passes and the accuracy to make them dimes for the receivers. Does lack the footspeed and strength to avoid tackles when pressured in the pocket. The Xekutioner: Lower arm strength than others but has exceptional accuracy to make routine throws to the receivers. Biggest strength is his footspeed so look for him to be a threat outside the pocket. Dillon Cheer: Has a great arm on him. Make the tough throws with ease and does it with high levels of accuracy. Is lacking in strength and footspeed. Can be in trouble when put into pressure. Notes: Lots of high arm and accuracy. Not a lot of differentiation between the prospects besides one. Top picks: Cal Lidous, The Xekutioner, Zero Two OL (4 prospects) Offensive line is always needed but is rarely played by actual players. These guys might be hidden gems come draft day. Richard “Dick” Gardner: Great strength and blocking ability. Should be a huge help at the line to hold back rushers looking to get at the quarterback. Emmett Higgins: Good strength and balanced blocking ability. Should hold the line well to open routes and protect the passer. Dylan Green: A little lower on the strength but makes up for it in great balanced blocking ability. Has good awareness and should play well on any team. Douglas Quail: Has great strength to hold the line. Does have a lacking blocking ability but has the speed and agility to make up for it and chase down pass rushers. Notes: Can’t go wrong here. Take whoever you want. OL is always needed. Mock Draft R1 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() R2 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Notes: Norfolk could pick a QB at 1OA but not many other teams need one so they can afford to wait and pick up a quality defensive player to start their team off with. Two tight ends in the first round is surprising but a fair number went in the NSFL draft so those teams are looking to fill that hole, and the position is very strong this year. Thank you for reading this article. It took a lot of time to create. Good luck to all rookies in the DSFL draft.
