Woah, blues is back! Why the hell is he here again? Well, as most of you all know, Boomcheck recently wrote a media hit piece on Bex's player. Bex is commissioner, it started a whole shitshow, and now Boom's NSFL career is over before it really began. I'm back to kind of give my take on it. I'm sure this will bring out a lot of discussion and maybe get locked by the Head Office or moved because I posted it in the wrong thread (I haven't been on the site in a while lmao) but I just want to play devil's advocate here. Now, most of you know Boom as a shit disturber who enjoys writing hit pieces. I sure did beforehand. He's like this on the SHL too, as he sometimes writes joke media pieces about how he wants his team, the Chicago Syndicate, to pay him more. Notice the word joke in that last sentence. I don't think Boom writes these pieces to be mean, he just writes them to bring in some entertainment and bombast. He plays a character of a much too confident dickhead to just happens to be one of the better players on the SHL,and my guess he's continuing that character on the NSFL as well.
I used to hate Boom for being a cocky son of a bitch. Hell, he left a condescending comment on my retirement thread congratulating me on a sucky career. But, after my second SHL player was drafted to Anchorage, where he's in the LR, I learned, after, and let this be known, despising the dude for being a cocky motherfucker for a LONG TIME, that he's not an inherently mean person. He does this for shits and giggles, to just have a bit of fun. The fact that his DSFL (and NSFL) career is already pretty much over because he slammed the new commissioner's player in an article is just absurd to me. You can attack me all you want for this, but I don't think he deserves to get dragged in the mud for this. He's attacking Bex's player, not Bex as a person. You guys need to learn to take a bit of a joke from time to time. This mob mentality (which trust me, I've partaken in before on sim leagues to drag someone who's said much worse) has gone a bit too far in my opinion. Just let the guy have some fun.
That being said, I'd love to hear more opinions on the matter. It just sucks to see someone get fucked over for something that seems to have been taken a bit too literally.

If someone's offended, you apologize.
You don't tell them to "learn to take a joke". It's not their fault that you've taken an action against them, no matter the intent. You can explain that you were trying to make a joke, but you shouldn't blame the victim for not seeing what you're seeing.
There's really nothing more than that. There's been a rule around here for a long time called the "Don't Be A Dick" Rule. Boom was being a dick. Even if he was trying to do it as a joke, he was being a dick. Maybe the SHL doesn't have it, but it's something I'd hope that the NSFL can stand by.

I think if he had put a disclaimer saying he was in character, a lot of the drama that unfolded would not have happened.

At no point have I ever sat down and thought about a career move from the perspective of “what would the dumbest character ever put to film do here”. And I would be pretty weird if y’all thought I made any league decisions at all based on what Forrest Gump would do. A FA move like this is 100% a decision made by the user, not the player, and that is simply a fact. The fact that not only will he not accept that line of thinking, apologize, or do anything other than double down on his initial article despite knowing he caused someone serious emotional distress isn’t an “in character” thing. It is a decision he made and one that was mean spirited. That said, his career isn’t over, he isn’t blackballed, and any issues sure as hell isn’t because he attacked Bex specifically. Had he attacked anyone like that, saw the pain it caused, and doubled down, I’d go after him just as hard. The problem is that he called a friend of mine “entitles, selfish, and mentally weak”. Justify it to yourself with “but it was the player’s decision” all you want. It wasn’t. It was the decision of a human person. And the article hurt people.

I think Infinite and Jiggly pretty much covered my thoughts on the matter, so I'll just add this. If you are going to do something that clearly has caused issues in the past, why not come out right away and explain what you are trying to accomplish? I don't buy it and to me, he was 100% looking for reactions.
