[div align=\\\"center\\\"]The Running Back Review: 2035, Week 1[/div]

Where to begin? Basically, this series will be tracking the best running backs in various categories as the season carries on. Additionally, I’ll be taking a special interest in the performances of Sam Torenson (@Jonny2x), Ashley Owens (@run_CMC), Marcella Toriki (@bex), and Quindarius Tyerucker (@Zeddez). Why these young running backs in particular? Well… the reason is within a significantly more substantial article I’ve been writing on and off since early January which currently hovers around 6,000 words, but is likely to conclude somewhere between 10,000 and 15,000. Hopefully I have it done by the end of January, but we’ll see. It doesn’t have a direct effect. In the meantime, just bear with me and don’t worry about it. Without further ado... thank you for clicking into the first edition of the Running Back Review.

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Current Standings[/div]

Rushing yards:
1. PHI Sam Torsenson (157)
2. AUS Mako Mendonca (122)
3. SJS Quindarius Tyerucker (98)

Just wanted to say real quick, that the third place spot for rushing yardage is technically held by quarterback Wolfie McDummy with 102 currently… but this article is about running backs. Sorry, @infinitempg. Anyways, of note is that two of the spotlighted running backs find themselves on this list, as well as Austin running back Mendonca.

Yards per carry (min. 5):
1. NOLA Marcella Toriki (6.4)
2. COL Ashley Owens (5.4)
3. PHI Sam Torenson (4.9)

And now… three of the spotlighted running backs. One from each of the 2033, 2032, and 2031 draft classes.

Rushing touchdowns:
T-1. PHI Farley Hank (1)
T-1. COL Michael Vincent (1)
T-1. COL Ashley Owens (1)

Fun fact: three of the four rushing touchdowns that were scored this week (yes, across the entire league there were only four rushing touchdowns in week 1), three were scored by the Colorado Yeti! RB Vincent, RB Owens, and QB McDummy all tallied one each.

Catches:
1. YKW Mathias Hanyadi (6)
T-2. PHI Farley Hank (4)
T-2. YKW Orien Drake (4)

Receiving yards:
1. YKW Mathias Hanyadi (79)
2. COL Ashley Owens (35)
3. PHI Fuzzy Dotson (29)

Receiving touchdowns:
1. YKW Mathias Hanyadi (1)
T-2. ISFL_old Literally everybody else (0)

Yes, I know, it’s been one week. However, Hanyadi is off to clear front-runner status in terms of receiving backs. His impact in the Wraiths’ first game of the year can’t be overlooked just because they lost an away game.

Quindarius Tyerucker (@Zeddez)

SJS Week 1:
Game result: San Jose @ Orange County, L 3-37
Attempts: 24
Rushing yards: 98
Rushing TDs: 0
Catches: 1
Receiving yards: 1
Receiving TDs: 0

SJS On the Season:
Since only week 1 has occurred, these stats are the exact same as above… so I’m not including them for this first edition.

Tyerucker’s first game went alright, from a personal stats point of view. As a team, they completely failed to execute (although San Jose’s points were the first of the game, so kudos for a strong start I suppose). Since only week 1 has elapsed, there’s not a ton to say, but good on the Quindarius for solid production even while the passing side of the offense struggled. Moving forward, San Jose will need to lean on this young running back as they continue to rebuild and develop.

Marcella Toriki (@bex)

NOLA Week 1:
Game result: New Orleans @ Austin, L 13-30
Attempts: 9
Rushing yards: 58
Rushing TDs: 0
Catches: 1
Receiving yards: 3
Receiving TDs: 0

NOLA On the Season:
-----

Again, with only one week down, there’s not a whole lot to comment on. Toriki was almost a non-factor in this surprisingly large defeat by the Austin Copperheads, with Forrest Gump tallying five more carries than her. However, the season shows lots of promise with an impressive 6.4 yards per carry to start the year. With 11 penalties to Austin’s one, that’s what really killed NOLA this game. Week 2 against Orange County will be tough, but I still anticipate Toriki rebounding and striking hard against the Otters. I think the main storyline this season will be the usage of Toriki versus Gump. Both are phenomenal running backs, and if the management and coaches can utilize both effectively, the New Orleans offense is in a good position to make a run for the Ultimus.

Ashley Owens (@run_CMC)

COL Week 1:
Game result: Colorado vs. Yellowknife, W 48-20
Attempts: 7
Rushing yards: 38
Rushing TDs: 1
Catches: 3
Receiving yards: 35
Receiving TDs: 0

COL On the Season:
-----

In terms of individual performance, Owens’ arguably did worse than Toriki in this first week. With only seven attempts, he was outpaced by both his quarterback and the other running back on the team, who each had eight runs. However, he has a decent YPC (5.4) going for him, as well as the fact that he got into the endzone for a touchdown; as long as his performance improves going forward, this week may be ignored by award voters thanks to a big win. Ashley is favored by an easier rebound opponent in week 2 Toriki’s, with the Yeti set to face off against the Chicago Butchers.

Sam Torenson (@Jonny2x)

PHI Week 1:
Game result: Philadelphia @ Chicago, W 23-10
Attempts: 32
Rushing yards: 157
Rushing TDs: 0
Catches: 2
Receiving yards: 7
Receiving TDs: 0

PHI On the Season:
-----

With a rookie quarterback under center, Philadelphia opted to lean on the ground attack of their multiple time running back of the year, and boy did it work. Torenson exploded (in what has become typical fashion) for 157 yards to start the year. The workload of 32 carries didn’t seem to hamper him much either, as he still did well enough for the third best yards per carry of the week. This Liberty team isn’t exactly expected to make a deep playoff run, but Philly fans can be sure they’ll enjoy seeing Torsenson pound it on the ground all season long while he continues to chase Marquise Brown’s records.

Thank you for reading this first edition of the Running Back Review! I hope to make this a fairly regular occurrence (I need money), so if you have any suggestions to improve the article (even aesthetically), please share them with me. Thanks!
