[div align=\\\"center\\\"]The Running Back Review: 2035, Week 2[/div]

We’re back with another issue of the Running Back Review! Another week down means another week of stats! There’s no particularly exciting news to share, so without further ado, here’s the second edition:

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]Current Standings[/div]

Rushing yards:
1. PHI Sam Torenson (251)
2. BAL Ludicolo Bigby (199)
3. SJS Quindarius Tyerucker (181)

Sam Torenson is taking strong control of this metric, being the first player to pass 200 yards on the season and doing it with plenty of room to spare. However, the field is actually pretty tight, with six different players currently being above 150 rushing yards.

Yards per carry (min. 10):
1. COL Ashley Owens (5.3)
2. BAL Ludicolo Bigby (4.9)
3. ARI Ruff Ruff (4.9)

Ashley Owens has posted pretty poor efficiency numbers in the past, but this season he seems to be doing excellently in terms of efficiency, with plenty of room between him and the next best running backs. However… perhaps it’s at the cost of volume, since Ashley only has a career low 15 rushes (16th in the league, even below one quarterback) and 79 rushing yards through two games.

Rushing touchdowns:
T-1. CHI Askel Danielsson (2)
T-1. PHI Farley Hank (2)
T-2. ISFL_old eight different players (1)

Through week 1, the NSFL saw 10 teams score a combined… four rushing touchdowns. And the Colorado Yeti accounted for three of those four. In week 2, the NSFL scored a combined 11 rushing touchdowns. Just a little something interesting to note.

Catches:
1. YKW Mathias Hanyadi (12)
2. COL Ashley Owens (10)
3. YKW Orien Drake (8)

Receiving yards:
1. YKW Mathias Hanyadi (140)
2. COL Ashley Owens (78)
3. PHI Fuzzy Dotson (66)

Receiving touchdowns:
1. YKW Mathias Hanyadi (2)
T-2. PHI Fuzzy Dotson (1)
T-2. CHI Jake Utler (1)

Not too much to say here, other than to point out that Hanyadi continues to be the frontrunner for best receiving back on the year.

Quindarius Tyerucker (@Zeddez)

SJS Week 2:
Game result: San Jose @ Arizona, L 21-26
Attempts: 20
Rushing yards: 83
Rushing TDs: 0
Catches: 0
Receiving yards: 0
Receiving TDs: 0

This has to be one of the most remarkably unremarkable statlines I’ve seen. 20 attempts is… quite average in a balanced offense. 83 rushing yards is a strong, solid amount of production, and makes for a better than acceptable but worse than great 4.2 yards per carry, but falls short of the attention grabbing 100 yard mark. No touchdowns… no catches. The truly amazing this is that this generic statline was posted in a game where San Jose posted 21 points, but got there in an incredibly atypical way, with three touchdowns, one extra point, two missed extra points, and a safety (also a missed field goal).

SJS On the Season:
Attempts: 44
Rushing yards: 181
Rushing TDs: 0
Catches: 1
Receiving yards: 1
Receiving TDs: 0

Is two weeks of games too little information to make a confident prediction on? Probably. But I have to say, it seems unlikely to me that Tyerucker will be making much of an impact in San Jose’s passing offense this season. Also, just based on the look of the Sabercats team as a whole, I would anticipate Tyerucker putting up top 5 rushing yardage, but with minimal touchdowns.

Marcella Toriki (@bex)

NOLA Week 2:
Game result: New Orleans vs. Orange County, W 30-10
Attempts: 31
Rushing yards: 100
Rushing TDs: 1
Catches: 1
Receiving yards: 0
Receiving TDs: 0

Last week, I said that the storyline of NOLA this season would be the utilization of Toriki and Gump. Am I allowed to say I’m right so far? In this game, Gump and Toriki both put up 100 yards on the ground, although they combined for one reception and zero receiving yards. The Second Line clearly intend to dominate opponents on the ground with two running backs who are always fresh.

NOLA On the Season:
Attempts: 40
Rushing yards: 158
Rushing TDs: 1
Catches: 2
Receiving yards: 3
Receiving TDs: 0

Tough recovery game, but Toriki still did it against the Otters, and it now looks like a decent season through two games. Not much left to say on the matters; next week they’ll face the Philadelphia Liberty.

Ashley Owens (@run_CMC)

COL Week 2:
Game result: Colorado @ Chicago, L 10-34
Attempts: 8
Rushing yards: 41
Rushing TDs: 0
Catches: 7
Receiving yards: 43
Receiving TDs: 0

Ashley Owens put up a mediocre performance in a disgusting blowout loss to the underdogs. Owens may have led the team in receptions with 7, but despite a yards per carry just over 5, with only 8 rush attempts, he clearly did something to make the coaches lose faith in his ability to execute in the game. McDummy ended up passing 48 times, and on three separate occasions he was intercepted while targeting Owens.

COL On the Season:
Attempts: 15
Rushing yards: 79
Rushing TDs: 1
Catches: 10
Receiving yards: 78
Receiving TDs: 0

This is the worst start Owens has had to a season in his career so far. While 10 catches is a solid number for a receiving back through two weeks of the season, with only 15 rushing attempts, Owens has failed to put up any truly meaningful numbers. So far, he’s averaging just 39.5 rushing yards and 39 receiving yards per game. You typically look for more from your star running back in the second year of a sizable contract.

Sam Torenson (@Jonny2x)

PHI Week 2:
Game result: Philadelphia vs Baltimore, L 20-27
Attempts: 28
Rushing yards: 94
Rushing TDs: 0
Catches: 3
Receiving yards: 33
Receiving TDs: 0

The loss was disappointing to be sure, but Torsenson continues to show what he’s capable of. Even if the end zone once again remained elusive, he is grounding and pounding his way to the top of the league for rushing yards. Philadelphia will have to be more effective at capitalizing on his consistent rushing attack going forward if they hope to win some games.

PHI On the Season:
Attempts: 60
Rushing yards: 251
Rushing TDs: 0
Catches: 5
Receiving yards: 40
Receiving TDs: 0

As I said, he leads the league in rushing yards, and his yards per carry is still somewhat high at a nice 4.2. Not much more you can ask of him so far.
