*Kansas City Coyotes Preseason - mcast55 - 01-27-2020 Chip Otle here to give you readers a breakdown of how Kansas City did this preseason Kansas City had high hopes coming into this season after the draft. Kansas City was pretty much an all bot team last year, so Coach Howl and his staff were eager to get out there and let their rookies win them some games! In week one of the preseason KC traveled to Myrtle Beach to face the Buccaneers. Both teams were trading punts back and forth till 9:09 mark in the first when Jon Smith tried to get a punt off but was blocked by Moekr and returned for 6 yards. With the short field the Coyotes looked to capitalize but ended up having to punt yet again. There was a lack of offense early as the Coyotes and Buccaneers couldn’t find the score sheet until a late 9 yard pass from Zero- Two to Red Arrow gave the Coyotes a 6-0 lead. A successful kick from Lefty Louis made it 7-0 heading into the second. After forcing a very quick three and out the Coyotes took over on their own 27. From there the Coyotes looks to expand their lead. A first down run by Cardrissian for 12 yard start the drive off on the right foot, from there a pass to Kross was dropped setting up a second and long, but a big six yard carry by A. Nova gave the Coyotes a chance at a third and short. The Coyotes got back up to the line and handed the ball to Nova again who gained eight yards picking up the first down. With a first and ten on the Buccaneers thirty-eight Zero-Two dropped back and hit R. Arrow for a huge twenty-three yard grab setting up a red zone trip for the Coyotes with 12:23 remaining in the half. Starting on the Buccaneers fifteen Zero- Two handed the ball off the S. Ahmed for eight yards bringing the ball to the seven and giving the Coyotes second and two on the eight yard line. On second down Zero-Two dropped back to pass and tried to hit Ahmed on the flat but the pass was dropped! A crucial third and two was upon the Coyotes who called a run play to Cardissian who was able to pick up four yards and a first down. Now with a first and goal, Zero-Two dialed up a pass play to K Shah for three yards and the score! This score gave the Coyotos a 13-0 lead and after another successful point after attempt from Lefty Louis, the Coyotes had a companding 14-0 lead over the Buccaneers on the road. The buccaneers would try to put together a scoring drive with 9:27 to go in the half but after a forty-eight yard drive they were forced to punt. The Coyotes would look to add onto their lead with 6:33 remaining. The coyotes would march down the field killing a ton of the clock. KC had the ball on the Buccaneers five yard line with thirty-three seconds before half and would hand the ball off to Nova for a five yard rushing score giving the Coyotes a 20-0 lead with twenty-four seconds left. Louis would add another to the lead with the point after. With a 21-0 lead at half time the Coyotes looked like they were on their way to an easy blow out win in their first preseason game. The Buccaneers came out of the gates firing as they put together a six minute driving which would finally end in a touchdown. After a successful point after the score would be 21-7. The Coyotes would get the ball back but would quickly go three and out on their first drive. The Buccaneers would take over on their own 28 with 8:06 to go in the third. With 5:19 left in the quarter A. Sabor would break off a huge twenty-six yard carry setting the Buccaneers up with a first and goal. Two plays later Sarvepally would run this one in cutting the deficit to just 7 with 4:01 remaining in the third. Still with plenty of time in this game it was shown that the Buccaneers wouldn’t go down without a fight. Both Defenses started to pick it up as neither team could put more points on the board till a J. Smith 39 yard field goal with 8:49 remaining in the 4th making it a 21-17 game. The Coyotes offense would continue its funk going three and out after the field goal given the ball back to the Buccaneers with 8:01 to go in the game. The Buccaneers would put together a solid drive getting all the way to the Kansas City 14 before having to set up a field goal. With 3:14 to go, Smith looked to make this a one point game but instead pushed the 31 yarder to the right which would keep it a 21-17 game. For some reason the Kansas City team would try to pass the ball instead of trying to run out as much clock as possible, and it would not work. A quick three and out gave the Buccaneers one last change to try to take the lead, needing a touchdown with only 1:58 remaining. The Buccaneers were set with a tough task facing a 3rd and 17 but a costly penalty by Chip Otle would give them an automatic first down. Luckily the penalty would not result in the Coyotes surrendering the lead, as the defense would stop the Buccaneers at Kansas Cities 29 to win the game 21-17! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Game two for the Coyotes would bring them to Portland. Portland was coming off a win against Norfolk in their first preseason game so one team was going to come away from this game with their first loss of the preseason. The Coyotes would get on the board first with a 39 yard field goal from Lefty Louis which would be all of the scoring in the first Quarter. The Pythons would get the ball with 11:32 remaining in the second and put together a drive that would result in a 9 yard pass from O’Donnell to Firestorm - Fjord giving them a 7-3 lead with 7:20 remaining in the second. There would be no more scoring chances till late in the second when Zero-Two threw a key interception that set the Pythons up with great field position. With 10 seconds left to go in the half, C Frost would set up for a 41 yarder but would hook it to the left and the Pythons would have to go into the half with a 7-3 lead over the Coyotes. The defenses would hold the opposing team out of the scoring column till 4:47 left in the third when the Pythons set up for a punt and A. Nova would make some nifty moves to take it to the house for the 73 yard punt return. The Coyotes would take a 10-7 lead mid way through the third. The next Pythons possession would result in another Field Goal chance for Frost, and this time he would drill this one through the up rights to tie the game at 10. The Coyotes would take over with 1:21 remaining in the third and with 14 seconds remaining in the quarter Zerp- Two would throw another crucial interception that would be returned for 29 yards and set the Pythons up for the chance to take the lead again early in the 4th. While the Pythons couldn’t find the endzone with the short field they were able to put up 3 more points from a 26 yard field goal from Frost. With 13:07 remaining in the game and a 13-10 lead the Pythons just had to hold the Coyotes out of the endzone. After a three and out from both teams, the Coyotes took over still down three with 11:36 remaining in the game. This drive they would put together some first downs and would get the ball all the way down to the 13 yard line but would have to settle for the game tying field goal from Lefty Louis. 7:57 to go and the score tied at 13, the next score could decide the game for either team. But we would not get anymore scoring from either side in regulation time. The Coyotes had a chance to win the game just before time expired as Lefty Louis set up for a 41 yard field goal but would come up short on his kick leaving the score tied and sending the game into overtime. The Coyotes would claim the first kick off in overtime and would have to punt after picking up one first down. From there the Pythons just needed a field goal to win the game but would quickly go three and out and give the ball back to the Coyotes. The Coyotes would put together a long 7 minute drive that would end with the gaming winning score from a 5 yard run by Nova giving the Coyotes a 19-13 win in overtime! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Coyotes would take their 2-0 record back home where they would face the Buccaneers for the second time in the pre season. The Coyotes were able to hang on to a 21-17 victory in the first matchup. The Buccaneers would receive the initial kickoff and start their drive on their own 19 yard line. After getting a first down the Buccaneers would take a poor delay of game penalty then on the next play they would hand the ball off to R. Rose who after picking up 5 yards would fumble the ball after being hit by D. Quald where the Coyotes A. Josh would pick it up and give the Coyotes very short field position for their first drive of the game. Starting from the 38 yard line of the Buccaneers, the Coyotes on their second snap of the game would call a pass play that would have Zero-Two hitting C Kross for a 34 yard play, bringing the ball to the Buccaneers 3 yard line. The very next snap, Zero-Two would drop back and find R. Arrow for the three yard score giving the Coyotes a 7-0 lead early in this one. Both teams would trade punts till the Coyotes took over with 7:18 left in the first. They would drive down the field on a 6 minute drive that would result in a 4 yard passing score from Zero-Two to S. Ahmed giving the Coyotes a 14-0 lead with 1:05 to go in the first. The Coyotes would add onto their lead with their first possession of the second quarter. They would run a 4 minute drive that would result in a 27 yard field goal from lefty Louis making it 17-0 game. The Buccaneers would finally get on the board when they would go on a 6 minute drive resulting in a 19 yard field goal from J. Smith making it a 17-3 lead. The Coyotes would get one more chance to extend their lead before half but would come up short when Left Louis would clank his 43 yard field goal off the up rights. The score would stay 17-3 heading into half, and the Coyotes were on their way to start 3-0 in the pre-season. Teams would trade punts to start the 3rd until the Coyotes took over with 9:10 remaining in the 3rd and would go on another long drive. The drive would last 6 minutes and result in another Zero-Two passing touchdown. His third of the day, this time a 9 yard strike to C. Kross giving the Coyotes a 24-3 lead. The Buccaneers would cut into the Coyotes lead on their next drive as they drove down the field and would eventually find the endzone with a 4 yard passing touchdown from C. Ramos to a Sabor making the score 24-10. The Coyotes would end up punting on their next possession giving the Buccaneers a chance to cut into the deficit a bit more, but on a 3rd and 5 S. Sarvepally would cough up the football and it would be recovered by M. Moekr and returned for 2 yards. The Coyotes would have a very short field only needing 24 yards to add to their lead. With 7:19 left in the 4th Zero-Two would add another passing touching to his resume, this time to S. Ahmed which would be his second of the day. The Coyotes would take 31-10 lead late in this one, and would put the nail in the coffin. The Coyotes would add 3 more late in the fourth after a turnover on downs by the Buccaneers leading to short field position for the Coyotes. Lefty Louis would drill a 45 yarder making the score 34-10 which would end up being the final score in this one. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Coyotes would end the preseason with a battle against the Norfolk Seawolves. The Seawolves were 1-2 heading into this one and would be looking to gain a little momentum heading into week one of the DSFL. The Seawolves would get onto the board early with a 22 yard field goal by T. Junk on their first drive of the day. After a bunch of punts from both sides, the Coyotes would take over with 6 minutes to go in the first. They would put together a 5 and a half minute drive leading to Zero-Two finding R. Cardrissian for a 6 yard passing touchdown and giving the Coyotes a 7-3 lead at the end of the first. The Seawolves would strike back on their next possession when they would have a first and goal at the 2 and hand the ball to J. Catfish for the score. Now a 10-7 game here with 9:41 remaining in the half. The Coyotes would have one last opportunity to at least tie the game when they took over with 7:22 left in the half. The Coyotes would drive down the field and A. Nova would punch it in on an 11 yard run. The score now 14-10 with 3:08 remaining in the half, the Seawolves would not put together a scoring drive before the half. The Coyotes would punt on their first possession of the 3rd and it would set up the Seawolves for another scoring drive. The Seawolves would hand off the ball 8 out of 13 plays they calls hitting the Coyotes with their amazing run game. With 8:33 in the 3rd C. Lidious would drop back and hit T. Sunrise for a 2 yard score and give the Seawolves back the lead at 17-14. The Coyotes would then punt on their next drive and the Seawolves would look to add to their 3 point lead. With 27 seconds remaining in the third J. Catfish would get the ball and bounce it out to the right side and score from 13 yards out. Catfish’s second rushing score of the game and would make the score 24-14 heading into the 4th. After both teams threw interceptions on their first possessions of the 4th, the Coyotes would drive down the field and score on a Zero-Two touchdown pass to T. Gelbman from 4 yards out, cutting the Seawolves lead to 24-21. The Seawolves would have the final scoring play of the day when T. Junk would add 3 more on an 18 yard Field Goal making the score 27-21. The Seawolves would improve to 2-2 in the preseason and the Coyotes would finish the preseason 3-1. Heading into week one of the regular season the Coyotes were on a nice run going 3-1 and showing they have a very complete team. They would look to take that good preseason and turn it into wins in week 1&2. They would face two teams they faced in the preseason in the Pythons in week 1 and then the Buccaneers in week 2. |
