*Agent Tesla's Defensive End Scouting - Tesla - 02-27-2020

Hello! Agent Tesla here with the inside scoop on the S22 defensive ends. I'm going to be doing one of these for each defensive position group, and maybe the offensive position groups too. Depends on my mood and how much work it takes to get my client interviews out of the way as well. Without any further ado we'll get to my measurement system for these recruits.

I will group these prospects into four tiers. The top tier is elite and they should be the first off the board for their position. Second is solid starter and they should be high quality starters, but have one or two knocks keeping them from elite status. Third is diamond in the rough because I believe that any of these youths could turn it around, but they have not put in the work necessary just yet. While the last group is the question marks for those recruits that I just do not know enough about to endorse.

Elite
Troen Egghands - Balanced
If you told me a guy known as egghands was going to be the best defensive end prospect I would have laughed you out of my office. Odd name aside Troen is one of the most well rounded prospects coming out, and really seems to have a hang of what to do as a player of the game. He has a rare combination of strength, speed, and stamina that makes for a superb defensive lineman that can make plays all over the field all game long. He could stand to put a bit more effort in different areas I feel, but his overall work ethic erases any doubts that I might have had about the man. Should be one of the first defensive ends off the board.

Sandro Ryeu - Speed Rusher
Coming out of Heidelberg University you might question their knowledge about gridiron football, but I promise that it is a more popular sport in Germany than you think. He is practically a gymnast playing defensive end with how good his hips are, and combined with that defensive back like speed he can get after the quarterback with the best of them. Sort of a tweener in that he might just fill in better as an outside linebacker, but that just makes for an interesting prospect if you have a cunning defensive coordinator. The talent is there, although I could see it requiring an inventive mind to properly tap into it.

Danielle Hunter - Balanced
What can I say but what a beast? Danielle Hunter is not only the strongest defensive end prospect; he might very well be the strongest prospect period. I say that despite the fact that the guy I represent is on a quest to become the world's strongest. You would think that would mean he was overspecialized right? Not in the slightest. Still has the kind of speed that you want from a speed rusher, and the stamina that you need from a starting defensive end. If he somehow makes it to the third round he could be the steal of the draft.

Solid Starters
Ismael Sanchez - Speed Rusher
A pretty standard speed rusher who can outrun most linemen. Has the benefit of better strength than the average speed rusher to provide a more well rounded skill set. He's got enough experience to keep him from making obvious mistakes in his play, and has developed his tackling skills enough that between the two he can avoid most penalties. Could use a bit of work on his endurance, but a solid prospect overall.

James Cho - Balanced
James Cho holds a special place in my heart as the defensive end that played alongside my client Magnus Rikiya for the University of Washington. Given I did not recuse myself on Magnus I will also not recuse myself here. James has every ounce of athleticism you could ask for out of a defensive end, and if you just look at Magnus' highlights you will see enough of James to get an idea of what I mean. He could use a bit of work on his stamina given he was part of a good rotation at Washington, but he should be able to contribute out of the gate nonetheless. My advice is to draft Magnus and then James; pair up these college teammates and watch opposing offensive lines crumble trying to stop them both.

Slinky Claxton - Power Rusher
A guy named Slinky being a big bruiser of a man might surprise you until you realize that a guy named Slinky probably dealt with a lot of bull in his youth. He has the strength and the play style to match a man who has been through it a few times. That said he has got great speed for a power rusher that lets him pull some maneuvers that you would not expect. Very good potential that is just waiting to be tapped by a decent coaching staff. If you want a power rusher defensive end snatch Slinky up quick cause he won't make it to the later rounds.

D'Brickashaw Cannon - Power Rusher
Once again just a glance at the name can tell you this is a great candidate for a defensive end. Just like his name this kid can shoot off the end of the line like a cannon to get to the quarterback. While he is as fast as most of the speed rushers in this class; his specialty of power is well suited to his superior strength. Although this kid is a cannon that can tear through an offensive lineman; he is also like a cannon in that it takes some time for him to reload. Could afford to work on his cardio, but has shown enough effort that I believe a decent coach can tap his potential.

Simeon Works - Speed Rusher
If you want pure straight line speed then you want to get this kid who might have been a track star early in his career. Just an absolute nightmare for slower tackles to deal with given his defensive back level speed. A little rough around the edges with a need to work on his cardio, but even in this loaded class his speed is a step above and worth looking at. While he has put in the work he could use some coaching to polish the finer points of his pass rush skills. High potential reward if your team can get him focused in the right direction.

Diamond in the Rough
Danshawn Jenkins - Power Rusher
Danshawn Jenkins is a talented power rusher with the strength to bully most tackles based on the tape from his time at Louisiana State University. He pairs with it a surprising amount of speed that allows him to get around the heavier tackles to get to the quarterback for a timely sack. Needs work on his stamina and so would work best as a rotational pass rusher with his athleticism. If you can get him paired up with a good strength and conditioning coach I think his work ethic will work out for you in the end.

Ayden Bayden - Balanced
Ayden Bayden is an athletically gifted all around defensive end. Solid strength to set the edge against the run when paired with his developed skills. Superb speed to blaze past tackles and get to the ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage without being touched. Even got a solid amount of stamina to keep up his moves for the majority of the game. Needs a solid coaching staff to really polish his skills, but could be a steal if you can get him to work with you.

Mario VonPebbles - Speed Rusher
A solid all around prospect coming out of Clemson if you ignore some of the off the field issues that he has presented. His defense of his time spent in a Lithuanian prison that it was just weed is one that I personally agree with if I am honest, however I know the league may not look so kindly upon drug use. Combined with his stated intentions to load up on performance enhancing drugs and you may want to steer clear of this prospect. Although if you think your doctors can help him cover it up and you can bail him out he may just be one of the best talents in the draft.

Will-Barry Underground - Speed Rusher
A terrifying titan out of Appalachian State University. Despite his giant stature Will-Barry is a swift speed rusher with solid moves to get around his shorter opponents. Honestly one of the best swim moves in the class if you ask me, but he could afford to polish some of his alternative techniques. That said he has the kind of athleticism you hope for in a quality defensive end and a fuel tank that won't dry up early. Good coaching could turn him into a nightmare for opposing offenses.

A.J. Warren - Speed Rusher
A well built speed rusher out of Virginia with an interesting story on his way into the league. The man who originally thought to be a big Hollywood movie star and had every advantage to go into that role decided to stick with his love of football. He hit the gym hard leading up to the draft, and I could see him being in even better shape by the time of the draft. When last I saw him play he was a decently athletic player with good speed, but what set him above was his tackling form. If he is as dedicated as he sounds he could be a great addition in the later rounds of the draft.

Patrik Money - Balanced
A big Irish transplant coming out of Wisconsin. You have to admit he has a good name for a player of our game given the money you can make as a player, or as an agent like myself. He has the strength that you ask for out of a defensive lineman that allows him to match up with the mountains of flesh they go up against. Good speed to pair with his strength as well that makes him a good fit for the position. His motor won't run out either, but I think he needs some hands on coaching to grasp some of the finer points of the game.

Gabriel Graves - Speed Rusher
A great name for a pass rusher if I do say so myself. Sorry I think I may be commenting a bit too much on names. Still he is a natural speed rusher with the hips to swivel around even the most athletic of offensive tackles. His strength and stamina are both more than good enough for a speed specialist, but I could see him putting work in the gym to get those up to more all around levels. Needs a bit of help off the field, but if a good coaching staff can connect with him I feel he could be a valuable talent to their team.

Landon Moore - Power Rusher
A mammoth of a man tipping the scales at 300 pounds and combined with his 6'6" frame he is an imposing figure at the end of the line. He has got the strength to match and can out wrestle most offensive lineman. Despite his massive size he has the speed of a linebacker and can get around with the best of them. Also got the motor to keep that pace up for the majority of a game and should be a reliable starter for any team looking fora defensive end. Needs some coaching up on technique, but decent athleticism makes for good potential.

Farrior Deschain - Power Rusher
Coming out of Texas Tech you can trust they have plenty of experience on the football field. That can be seen from their tackling technique which is about as well refined as any defensive end in this draft class. He has the strength to be a bruiser when it comes to rushing the passer and stopping the run. Not as athletic as some of the other guys coming out, but not as though he is slow enough to cause any concern. A potentially good pick with the right coaching staff.

Slim Pickens - Speed Rusher
A solid speed rusher coming out of Notre Dame. Despite his name Slim is quite the large man at 6'4" and weighing in over 270 pounds. He has a decent amount of strength for a man who mostly relies on his burst and flexibility to get to the quarterback. His speed is good enough to rely on as a pass rusher, but is not elite in this class that is loaded with speed rushers. A benefit he brings to the table though is his solid stamina that will last, and reliable tackling form. Could afford to be put to work by a decent coaching staff.

Rainman Legends - Balanced
6'5" 285 coming out of Myanmar is another great named defensive end prospect in Rainman Legends. Good all around skills despite his unique origin and even more unique name make for a decent overall prospect. His strength is good for an all around type defensive end and he would make a good convert to power rusher if you could convince him of that fact. What really sets him apart is just how much endurance this kid has as he just refuses to give up through all four quarters. A bit of polishing and he could be a shining gem.

Jimmy Frackerson - Power Rusher
Jimmy Frackerson is exactly what his name sounds like, but thankfully for the world this young man has stepped up with the intent of distancing himself from his father. He has the athleticism expected from this talented draft class with a combination of strength and speed that you look for in a quality defensive end prospect. His stamina is good enough to carry him through most of the game, and with a bit of work could lead to him being a primary starter. Needs some coaching work, but a good coach could turn him into a top tier talent.

Question Marks
Nathan Bourne - Power Rusher
An unusual case is the prospect out of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. All of the style that his skill set demonstrates would suggest that he is a power rusher plain and simple. Despite that his most developed talent is his surprisingly swift speed. Sure he is strong enough to make use of his power pass rushing maneuvers, but the fact that he is so unorthodox makes him appealing. If you could just get him to work with you he could probably make a splash.

Meep Meep - Speed Rusher
If you can avoid looking at any pictures of this recruit that you come across. There are rumors circulating that they are a scientific abomination before the lord made by fusing human and roadrunner genetics. The more standard belief is just that they are an unusual looking individual. Far as their talents on the field are concerned they are a solid speed rusher with a surprising amount of strength. Their best upside is their high motor, but even with that it could be difficult working with them. Not sure if they will make it to the draft with all the conspiracy hunters out there.

DeShawn Jones - Speed Rusher
Fast is the best way to describe DeShawn Jones as he flies around the field to make plays. Honestly he is faster than some defensive backs with the way he can move around. If that were all there was to him he probably would not have made it this far, but he has an okay amount of strength to be able to make the speed matter. Plus he has been doing film study leading up to the draft to become a smarter player. Not sure he ever made it out of the film room though so be sure you can find him before you draft him.

Chauncey Morrison - Balanced
Chauncey is an outright specimen standing at 6'3" and weighing in at almost three-hundred pounds. He has the strength that you would expect from a man that size and can just toss around tight ends when they are tasked with blocking him. What is terrifying is the speed with which he brings the strength to bare on his opponents. Especially when combined with the fact that he has the stamina to keep it up all game long. All the talent in the world doesn't mean a thing if you don't show up though, and I have heard reports he has missed most of his interviews. If you can get a hold of him he could be worth taking a chance on though.

Frank Ngyuen - Speed Rusher
Frank is another fast big man in this draft class, although without much to set him apart from a class deep in speed rushers. Solidly strong for a speed rusher, but nothing outlandish in that regard. His hips are better than average, and with the right environment I could see a coach being able to maximize that talent of his to make a really good pass rusher out of him. Lack of effort though I think will leave him as yet another case of what could have been. Of course I would be thrilled to be proven wrong by him.

Anthony Brewer - Power Rusher
A big bodied power rusher coming out of the University of Texas. You can rely on the fact that they know how to play with where they developed, and the proof is in the pudding when it comes to their tackling form. Good strength to go up against any offensive lineman in the league. Enough speed for it to matter as a power rusher, but not exceptional in this loaded draft class. More of a rotational pass rusher than a full time starter. If a coach could correct some of his mistakes and get him in the gym he could be a good player, but without that he is unlikely to make a name for himself.

Buster Brownce - Power Rusher
Brownce is a big bodied bruiser of a power rusher from Illinois State. Unusual among this class as he lacks the explosive athleticism that marks most prospects, but he makes up for it in his own ways. Easily the best end when it comes to swatting and catching passes with hands that almost make you wish he had tried to be a tight end. He also makes up for his lack of athleticism by putting in extra work in film study. That said he definitely needs to put in more work in the gym to be a top prospect and I am not sure if he has that drive at the moment.

Justice Wolfe - Run Stopper
The sole run stopper in this class has the exact kind of strength you would expect from that kind of defensive end. While his strength is superb it is his somewhat surprising speed that makes him a contender as a DSFL prospect. Combined with having one of the best tackling forms and you can trust that runs to his side will not be going anywhere. He has enough stamina to compete at that spot for a while, but lack of effort off the field is what concerns me most. If you absolutely have to have a run stopper to run your defense he is your only choice.

Summary
The totals are three elite prospects, five solid starters, twelve potential diamonds in the rough, and eight question marks. A draft class with an okay amount of top end talent, but deep when it comes to potential talent. Every team should be able to find a solid contributor in this draft if they are willing to put in the work, and of course assuming they do not get sniped by their competitors. Best of luck to the defensive ends of S22 and may all of you outperform your draft position.
