*Wealth Inequality in the NSFL - infinitempg - 03-03-2020 EDIT: So good ole head banker BWestfield gave me a better source. All numbers now updated! -- So @Raven made an interesting article about how GMs aren't actually that rich, and how myself and @IsaStarcrossed have more money than all the GMs combined. This got me thinking - how bad is it really? I present to you, an illustration of the wealth inequality of the league: ![]() As you can see, the 4 richest users (Isa, myself, @`To12143`, and @ADwyer87 respectively) own as much money as the bottom 47.2% of users. This is a bit misleading of course, as many users go inactive before they get the chance to earn any real money. On the other had, I have put in 13 seasons of offseason events, Isa has put in incredible media, To12143 was a GM and DSFL Simmer, and Dwyer was the commissioner. Perhaps what is more interesting is how nearly 75% of the league is below 10M. Is this skewed because of recent equipment purchases? Probably. Should we raise the salary cap or job salaries so users can more easily purchase weekly trainings or equipment? Maybe. Do we need to evaluate the incredible wealth of the richest members? Perhaps. (For the record, I think I should have been paid more for my work but that's besides the point.) What is clear is that we have more money than we can even spend, while many users are struggling to make ends meet - and it's pretty interesting to see this play out quite similarly to how real society does. Want to view what percentile you're in? Click here! You can sort, search, etc with this. It was made with data collected on 3/2 at around noon CST. *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL - 37thchamber - 03-03-2020 Ah, another inherent problem with a cash league. Accumulative disparity. *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL - IsaStarcrossed - 03-03-2020 This is incredible, Infinite! And yeah, wealth inequality is a real thing in the NSFL, but the NSFL is also a place where you get somewhat rewarded for the time you invest. Could it be better? Yes. At the end of the day though, the more time you're willing to invest into this league we all love, the more you can get out of it. Even to the extreme degrees like you and me. That said, I agree that effort to value doesn't always equate. Like yeah, I'm sitting on $440m, but few people in this league were really close to me back when I was writing regularly. Few people know just how much time I invested in it. I was averaging around 8-10 hours a day writing and that was when I wasn't working on a massive piece. My draft article for example I worked on for over 180 hours between research and the actual writings. There was a period there where I spent like 85 hours in a four day period hammering that thing out. That article ultimately payed out $142m, but that averages out to about 789k per hour I invested in the work I put in. Believe it or not, that actually drops closer to 650k per hour when you look at my smaller articles that required research. I've written over 250k words of media for this league to get to where I am, most of which was written in my first two months here. I was averaging close to 4,000 words a day in those first two months. Then look at yourself. You've put in countless hours season after season. The other two guys in the top four are league legends who threw themselves at this place and worked their asses off. I guess my point is, to create this kind of inequality you need people who are absolutely obsessed with this league in a way that isn't exactly healthy. I believe we more than fit that bill. ![]() *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL - HENDRIX 2.0 - 03-03-2020 Not since U.S. Steel and Standard Oil have we seen such monopolies. *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL - s4ndr0p - 03-03-2020 So... Who's going to found the NSFLPA? *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL - IsaStarcrossed - 03-03-2020 (03-03-2020, 11:18 AM)s4ndr0p Wrote:So... Who's going to found the NSFLPA? Obviously me. And i think many of us from that time period of you going media bonanza miss your media. Does't have to be as often or a long, take care of your health dude, but media helps breathe life into our sim fantasy. *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL - Oles - 03-03-2020 Isa's point is absolutely correct. I'd spend hours upon hours doing some sort of league job at one point. There was a time where if I wasn't test simming I was simming for DSFL, and then I was streaming for DSFL, and then I was updating a team, or multiple teams if someone needed help or couldn't do it. I did that for many seasons, I was HO, DSFL Simmer, DSFL Commissioner, PPT Head, Updater, GM in both NSFL and DSFL. Before I took a break on Kaz I had held some sort of league job since S3, and I took my break around season 17 or so, don't really remember. Add in the media I'll throw out there and it's easy to bankroll cash. There were times where I figured up that I was making 30 million more a season than I was spending just from how much I was doing. That comes with a lot of burnout though, I'll be honest, when I took a break after Kaz hit regression I didn't expect to comeback to the league, I thought I was done for good. It takes such an insane amount of time to get that money, but at the same time I could not make a single penny with TolesJR and never have to worry about equipment purchases or training before regression. I don't think we need anything to change though, and honestly I'd probably agree with infinite where I think I should've gotten more than I was paid, even if I did receive TPE as a bonus due to PT pass and all. It's hard to find how to value people in a league like this, where the most insane users are spending hours upon hours of their time to help the league run, or to provide outstanding media. *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL - Muford - 03-03-2020 (03-03-2020, 02:19 PM)To12143 Wrote:Isa's point is absolutely correct. Sounds fair to me. Media is pretty simple to write here, no real guidelines except writing about the game/football/your story, so i feel that if we have people with a lot of money, it's because they spend way more hours here than the rest. |
