*S21 DSFL Draft Analysis - 3 Rounds - QuirkyTurtle - 03-06-2020 S21 DSFL Draft Pick Analysis. Disclaimer: Obviously once again, this draft analysis of mine is strictly of my own opinion based on my own research and personal experience so far. It’s purely for the entertainment of the reader and also for bonus monies. Round 1 ![]() Most people knew this pick was coming. An expansion team has to grab their franchise QB straight away as it’s the most important position on the team and it was always going to be one of the Jack brothers. You really couldn’t go wrong with either of them. Monty has that already high TPE count being a recreate and to also be a GM from an NSFL team is invaluable, especially to an expansion team that needs to hit it right on their QB pick. Grade: A+ ![]() Colby Jack falls to pick 2. That’s as far as he was ever going to drop if not taken at 1 overall. London Royals is the second expansion team who had ‘take QB with first selection’ on their draft goals list. Like his brother, Colby is a veteran of the league and an NSFL GM, which comes with all the sim league know how and dedication to the league that you want to have in your QB. Grade: A+ ![]() Another pretty much set in stone pick is 3rd overall, and it had to be Tyler Oles Jr. Portland was never going to let slip the best CB in the draft TPE wise and is also well acquainted in the Pythons locker room. With what im sure was no time wasted on this selection, Portland gleefully take Tyler Oles Jr right back to lead that defensive back position. Grade: A ![]() Up until this point, my mock was 3 for 3. But we’re not going to talk about just how wrong I got this pick in my mock. Moving on.. Tijuana was the third QB needy team in this draft and Ben Slothlisberger is a perfect QB talent for them to grab at 4th overall. He’s a league veteran which we established is hugely valuable in a QB. And after conquering the defensive side of the ball has come to repeat history on the offensive side of the ball. Not to mention he was previously with the Luchadores so it’s going to be a welcome back party for them. Tijuana lucks out with this pick. Grade: A+ ![]() At just pick 5, Kansas City get the steal of the 1st round. Phat Boi in every sense of the word is a BEAST. If it weren’t for the many QB needy teams ahead of the Coyotes, I’m certain Phat Boi would be a top 2 pick. He’s got piles of TPE already and is super active on forums and discord servers, and of course he got that sweet sweet podcast content that the league is very fond of. Kansas is thrilled to add Phat Boi to their Defensive line to accompany Chip Otle. Grade: A+ ![]() Norfolk are the fourth and final team that was QB needy. However top 3 QBs are gone here and I’m sure they were praying for Ben Sloth to fall but you got to make the most with what your given. In this case the Seawolves decide to spend their pick on Cornerback. Thubba bumper is another league veteran and no stranger to sim leagues in general. Active and dedicated user all round with solid earnings. Definitely a top CB in this draft. I can’t help but feel there was a little bit of bias in the Norfolk war room that determined this pick but nevertheless a very nice pick. Grade: A ![]() Oh how I called this one so right! I was fairly confident that Myrtle Beach would be eyeing up the Safety position for their first round pick, and to me, Johnny Hellzapoppin was the best of the bunch. I love this pick. He’s the new DSFL streamer which speaks volumes to his dedication to the league and that’s on top of his earnings and activity in general. Grade: A+ ![]() Minnesota knew they were gonna be targeting defence big time in this draft. I knew a strong DB would be taken here but incorrectly guessed Corner. The Ducks go for solid Safety in Buck Thornton, who I believe just made a strong impression on the Minnesota GMs early on. I believe, in my opinion there was stronger talent available at defensive positions but realistically Buck wasn’t going to fall too far in this draft anyhow and when you love a player, you make sure you get them. Grade B+ Round 2 ![]() Man was I happy to see this pick. Derred de Ville is a big money maker and crazy active on top of being a genuinely great person overall. Im glad his Linebacking talents were greatly recognised amongst GMs and is super deserving of an early pick. Royals believe him to be their future defensive leader and I couldn’t agree more. He’s also recently been getting on his side hustle of creating player trading cards which are awesome. (ps. I want one lol) Excellent pick here for the London Royals. Grade: A+ ![]() I don’t think I’m over-selling it when I say Norfolk fell in love with this person. She’s been producing a ton of media, and media of truly excellent quality at that. Super active in discord too, Magnus earned this 10th overall pick. Super strong DT prospect in this draft and while active DTs are a few, Norfolk are super delighted to have Magnus Rikiya join them. Grade: A+ ![]() While the name alone seemed to be enough to earn a role in the Portland Pythons locker room, It took much more than that to earn this early pick. Portland are really doubling down on Corners this year as it seemed to be their most talent lacking position in the S20 season. And Alexander Hamilton is one of the top CB prospects. Very high activity and great TPE. Great pick. Grade: A ![]() Did I say doubling down.. I meant TRIPPLING down! With Portlands third pick, they select yet another Cornerback. While it must be fun to have what seems to be the equivalent of three Jalen Ramseys on your team (goodness, imagine that.. anyway), it seems super overkill to me. Especially for a team with a lot of holes to fill. Not to mention the DSFL is a run happy league. While this is no slight to Zamir as I often stated my opinion on him being a 1st round talent, but I don’t like this pick too much. Grade: C+ ![]() How did I end up at 13 overall. Madness. What an honour, not just to be the first WR off the board, but the first offensive player that isn’t a QB. Blessed. Obviously, I love this pick. Why wouldn’t I, I’m great. And with a strong QB like Chika Fujiwara throwing the ball, I believe this team plan to utilise the WR position more effectively than other teams. And that’s why I was taken here. Plus, as it happens, London Royals had planned to select me at 18 so it was perfect timing for Kansas to take me. Grade: A+ (I’m not biased, you’re biased) ![]() Boy are Safeties popular so far. I guess if they’re coming off quick, you better be quick to get one too. Matt ‘Son of Havoc’ Cross is a great earner and very active user. Safety was a big need for the Seawolves and they grab one here. I like. Grade: A ![]() First Defensive End of the board. And a great one at that. Troen is a crazy active user and been delivering a ton of media articles to get him sweet sweet bank. Myrtle Beach wanna keep that elite defence going if they can and Troen is an excellent addition to the team. Grade: A ![]() The Mandatory GM pick. Last pick of the second round... this isn’t a reach at all. Goodman unsurprisingly has the most TPE, not only of the RBs but most players in this draft in general. In the DSFL Running backs are super important and there isn’t anyone Gucci trusts more than himself. Grade: A Round 3 ![]() The Grey Ducks go with yet another Safety to begin the third round. To be honest I know not much about this person, but it’s clear he made a big impression on the GMs in Minnesota. While he hasn’t done too much in terms of earnings, he does have a nice chunk of TPE and they’re confident in his level of activity in the foreseeable future. While its always nice to select the players you are just fond of, it’s not always the best pick. To me there were more bang for your buck options available. Grade: B ![]() Im not entirely certain this guy is even human. He might literally be a machine. He’s been spouting out scouting reports by the hour it seems over the last couple days. That activity just has to excite you as a GM. And with already 4 corners off the board, this is a great pick by the London Royals to be a corner stone of that defensive back unit. Grade: A+ ![]() Pythons finally stray from the Corner position, but not that far away. They grab Safety Shawn Dawkins. Goes by Number 82 and is super active in the discords and seems to be a very nice guy. Pythons took a great liking to him and with all these Safeties coming off the board this was the time to get the one you wanted. Dawkins is primarily a GFX guy and has made little gains in the money department so far but activity is key. Hopefully he can start producing a little bit of media to grow that account. Everyone likes new cleats. Again, I must say while the position of need was addressed, I don’t believe it was best player available and a team like Pythons with many holes, they should have been looking at BPA right here. Grade: B ![]() Kansas make the trade up to get this stud. Chester Sweets its super active and been making big money. For the 6th CB off the board this is one hella impressive selection. I can attest to him being a super great guy from sharing only a small time with him in our locker room and he’s gonna be a fantastic steal for this team. Grade: A+ ![]() Likewise, for this man right here. Super great name, and even better dude. He’s been earning solid TPE but will need to work on making a little bit more money if possible. Equipment ain’t cheap. Overall I’m super happy to be on a team with this guy, and a nice pick for the KC Coyotes. Grade: A ![]() Holy cow. How on earth is Stanislaw a late 3rd rounder? Have you seen his TPE? 174! Birddogs lucked out massive in my opinion. I had this man going late 1st/early 2nd. Perhaps GMs had trouble reaching him or something, but he ticks all the boxes in my books. Active, Big earner, Massive TPE, recreate, important position of very little depth. What’s not to love about this player. Fantastic pick and massive steal for the good boys. Grade: A+ ![]() Fellow Turtle brethren here is a great dude. Strong active user as a big position of need for Myrtle Beach, they get themselves a real one in Octavio Clemente. He is producing a ton of media and making great bank and building strong TPE. He and Treon alone will make Myrtle Beach’s Defensive line a force in this league. Grade: A+ ![]() The Final pick in the 3rd round is Mo Magic. And of course, it should be, he’s a top talent at Defensive tackle. Super active in forums and making a ton of quality media to get that bank account filled up nicely. I personally had him going much earlier than this so a great selection for the Minnesota Grey Ducks. After doubling down at the safety position, it was time to get a playmaker on that defensive line. Grade: A+ Team Breakdown: ![]() 1 – QB Monterey Jack – A+ 16 – RB White Goodman – A 22 – Stanislaw Koniecpolski – A+ A great first 3 rounds for expansion team Birddogs. Obviously got theyre GM runningback, but also locked in key positions at QB and LB with super high TPE guys. Super strong start to their draft. Overall: A+ ![]() 2 – QB Colby Jack – A+ 9 – LB Derred de Ville – A+ 18 – CB Cadillac Harris – A+ London Royals draft was dope! Seriously, so amy great picks, but especially these 3 guys. Colby was a no brainer at 2, and De Ville and Harris are top of their positions and super rich and active. Royals will be a strong competitor in their first season. Overall: A+ ![]() 3 – CB Tyler Oles Jr – A 11 – CB Alexander Hamilton II – A 12 – CB Zamir Kehla – C+ 19 – S Shawn Dawkins – B While the thought of 3 lockdown corners is just soooo exciting to think about. I feel its not a super necessary in the DSFL and potentially could have come out looking a little better on more than just one position. Nevertheless, I could be wrong and this could work out superbly. We’ll see. Overall: B+ ![]() 4 – QB Ben Slothlisberger – A+ Obviously Ben Slothlisberger at 4 is a great pick, but since Tijuana traded back out of the first three rounds and only managed to scoop up 1 player in the first 3 rounds. For that they’re overall drops a little. Overall: B+ ![]() 5 – DT Phat Boi – A+ 13 – WR Eddie Jeeta – A+ 20 – CB Chester Sweets – A+ 21 – RB Kevin Fakon – A Kansas City killed it! I know I’m in here so bias is showing a little again but I really feel these selections were bomb, and super stoked about what we can achieve with this squad. Overall: A+ ![]() 6 – CB Thubba Bumper – A 10 – DT Magnus Rikiya – A+ 14 – S Matt Cross – A Although these are some superb picks, I feel some personal feelings in the war room played a big role in a couple of these selections. No matter though because they’re all phenomenal. Overall: A ![]() 7 – S Johnny Hellzapoppin – A+ 15 – DE Troen Egghands – A+ 23 – DT Octavio Clemente – A+ Myrtle Beach Defence heavy first 3 rounds were ace! Nothing to fault on any of these picks. They’ll be confident in making another run at Ultimini. Maybe they could win it this time. Overall: A+ ![]() 8 – S buck Thornton – B+ 17 – S Sebastian Vettel – B 24 – DT Mo ‘Mamba’ Magic – A+ Obviously, I’m not in Minnesota’s war room so I don’t know their game plan for the season but I wasn’t a huge fan of double safety picks but regardless they’re both great players and Minnesota shouldbe pleased with these three. Overall: A- Notable Big Steals in later rounds: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Thanks for checking this article out. Once again, these are just my own thoughts so just keep that in mind. Also feel free to comment who you think I missed out on the notable steal list as I’m certain I have missed more than a few.
