What if I told you that Cooter Bigsby losing like 250 TPE is actually going to improve because of it and I have this backed up with hundreds of sim tests?

So just to note, most teams run Nickel with 35% blitz ratio. I don't think any team is running 3-4 or 4-3, and a 3-3-5 is an option in the sim but again, I don't think anyone uses it. Contrary to what you might think, picking appropriate defenses for situations doesn't always equate to better sim performance, because it's a blanket choice for each down+distance. Most teams perform better in the sim when Nickel 35 is selected across the board.

Ok thanks that's really useful. With teams that really only have 2 CB but 3 good LBs, do they still run nickel? It's in those cases that I wonder about formation.

Most teams have at least 5 DBs on the roster. Actually, I just checked and every team but YKW has 5, most with 3 DBs. And they're playing a LB at SS so that they can run Nickel. It's pretty much the league-wide strat.
