Expansion Team Draft Analysis

Introduction:
Today I'll be writing about a topic related to the very recent DSFL Draft. This was the largest draft class in DSFL history, and it was filled to the brim with talent in all areas. In addition to this, there were two more teams added to the diverse group of DSFL teams, the London Royals (which I am currently a member of) and the Dallas Birddogs. Since they had a couple of early picks, and a better selection of available players than other teams, I'll be comparing their draft selections in order to see which franchise made the smartest selections, whether they're early-round picks, or late steals. So, without further adieu, let's hop right into it.

Pick #1

DAL select Monterey Jack, QB, 174 TPE
LON select Colby Jack, QB, 176 TPE

Here I'd say that the Royals made the better selection. Not only does Colby have more TPE, but he's more versatile as a dual-threat QB and is less likely to throw interceptions. Granted, despite this, he does run a higher risk of injury and is also more likely to fumble on the run, but fumbles are more based on luck while interceptions generally only result in the other team gaining possession. For this reason I'd say that Colby is a safer choice than Monty with the pick he was chosen at, which gives this one to the Royals.

LON 1
DAL 0

Pick #2
LON select Derred de Ville, LB, 157 TPE
DAL select White Goodman, RB, 175 TPE

I'd say that these picks are just about on par with each other, despite the large TPE difference. Goodman has 18 more TPE than de Ville, and has prior experience in the league as an active player, while de Ville is new but has taken on a wealth of responsibilities within the league and seems to be adept at completing all of them successfully. I'd say that Goodman slightly edges out de Ville based on this reason, but it's still very close in my opinion. The Birddogs win this one.

Pick #3
LON select Cadillac Harris, CB, 120 TPE
DAL select Stanislaw Koniecpolski, LB, 174 TPE

These picks have a 54 TPE difference, which is of course, very large, but they aren't as far apart in value as they might seem. Harris is one of the most active rookies in this draft class, having posted several media articles in the week leading up to the draft, and is quite often seen chatting in the Discord servers, in addition to his large bank account. Of course, Koniecpolski's TPE still gives him a slight edge over Harris, and I'd say that this one goes to the Birddogs.

DAL 2

Pick #4
LON select Acura Skyline, RB, 120 TPE
DAL select Deshun Jones, DT, 140 TPE

Even though Jones has more TPE than Skyline with a 20 point difference, I'd say that Skyline is the better pick here. They're both relatively active in both the Discord and on the forums, but both teams needed a good offensive piece with this pick, something that the Birddogs decided to pass on in order to buff their defense up. This one goes to the Royals.

Score:
LON 2
DAL 2

Pick #5
DAL select Jeffrey Phillips, TE, 177 TPE
LON select Sandro Ryeu, DE, 112 TPE

Phillips was the better choice here. Not only does he beat out Ryeu by 65 TPE, he's also a recreate, which means that his user has experience within the sim league. Ryeu is pretty active, but I just don't think that it's enough to make up for the large separation in TPE between both players. I give this one to the Birddogs.

Score:
LON 2
DAL 3

Pick #6
LON select Quinn Hughes, S, 115 TPE
DAL select Eric Barlow, S, 93 TPE

I'd say that Hughes was defintely the better pick here. Not only is he more active in both the Discord and on the forums, but he also has more TPE and is a position that the Royals needed to buff out their secondary. The Birddogs should've gone with a Cornerback here, especially since this draft class was loaded with talent at that position. I give this one to the Royals.

Score:
LON 3
DAL 3

Pick #7
DAL select William Lim, WR, 141 TPE
LON select Susan Cash Jr., WR, 101 TPE

There's a very large difference in TPE, but I still think Cash was a better choice here. The difference in TPE is large, and considering that I haven't seen either of these guys around too often, I can't really judge them based off of Discord activity. But, in terms of forum activity, Cash wins this battle. He is a very active user, and seems like he'll be able to become established as a max earner in no time. I'm giving this one to the Royals as well.

Score:
LON 4
DAL 3

Pick #8
DAL select James Cho, DE, 118 TPE
LON select Eldrick Avery, CB, 150 TPE

This one isn't as obvious as it seems. Avery easily beats out Cho in terms of TPE, but in terms of TPE, they're about on par. Lack of activity is the reason that Avery fell this far, but the Royals believe that he can pick it back up and become a cornerstone of their already decked-out secondary. Cho seems to be a support pick for the Birddogs defensive line, which has another high pick on it already. If Cho is able to keep his activity up, then we might see this perspective flip, but in terms of the night of the draft, I'd give this one to the Royals.

Score:
LON 5
DAL 3

Pick #9
DAL select Kichiwa Jones, RB, 119 TPE
LON select Tristan Gronlie, DT, 79 TPE

Birddogs win this one for obvious reasons. Not only is the difference in TPE quite large, but the difference in activity is pretty big as well, considering that Gronlie went semi-inactive for about a week leading up to the draft. Hopefully he'll be able to prove that his number on draft night doesn't determine what kind of player he'll be, but as of right now, it does.

Score:
LON 5
DAL 4

Pick #10
DAL select Xaq Schiaparelli, CB, 81 TPE
LON select Ben Stackinpaper, CB, 108 TPE

This one is also quite obvious. Stackinpaper has more TPE than Schiaparelli, and both of them are literally just as active as each other on the forums. Schiaparelli did join more recently than Stackinpaper, but regardless, the Birddogs reached on this one when you account for the fact that they chose Schiaparelli 8 picks before Stackinpaper and a different >100 TPE Cornerback was taken. Royals win this one.

Score:
LON 6
DAL 4

Summary:
In terms of main picks, and not depth or filler picks, I think that the London Royals definitely did better than the Dallas Birddogs. Despite the fact that both teams admittedly did reach on certain picks, I'd say that the Royals did a better job figuring out which top talents would fit on their team best. So, to sum it all up, Royals in 4. Thank you for reading.

I'mma let you in on a secret... 150 TPE on a defensive back is very different to 150 TPE on a defensive end (for example)

My favourite part is the "he has less TPE now and has been active the same amount of time, but I believe he's more active and will earn more TPE!"

Um wat

This was the one, you can write what you like but that seemed like a homer call to me haha.

It wasn’t. There’s a 20+ post difference separating both of them, and they’ve been here for the same amount of time. Regardless, I rarely see either of them around in the main or rookie Discord, and I’m not measuring by activity in team Discords. It wasn’t a homer call, but I can understand why you’d think it would be.
