*S21 Trade Deadline Buyers and Sellers - thevoicelesscreator - 03-26-2020

It’s that time of year! With the trade deadline fast approaching, there might be quite a few players on the move this year. Let’s look at some of the teams that might be making some big moves before the door closes.

Buyers:

Hawks BAL : The Hawks are currently tied for first with the Colorado Yet in the NSFC with a record of 5-4, but they are trailed closely by the Wraiths (4-5). The Hawks would be looking at a TE, a DT, or maybe ever a better depth CB.

Yeti COL : The Yeti are also buyers this year, but they can only really get better at LB. Given the depth in this year’s draft, and the success they’ve had in recent drafts, I highly doubt that they make any big moves here, but if the price is reasonable, we could see them make an addition or two.

Wraith YKW : Yellowknife are a little further off than their record (4-5) suggests. They could use a lot of shoring up in the secondary, with needs at SS (LB Douglas Quaid currently plays there) DT, or TE. If they get one piece, it could go a very long way

Copperheads AUS : Austin is also a very interesting team to look at. The reigning champions are 5-4 in league play and are the dark horse in the ASFC. The only concern here is that Austin don’t really need too much. Another DT or Linebacker and they could be on their way again. The problem in who is in front of them (Otters (7-2), Second Line (9-0)).

Sellers:

Butchers CHI : The absolute dumpster fire of the league this year is the Chicago Butchers. The team is 3-5 in what is a very tight division. But one that they just haven’t looked good in. With dissent finally bubbling over, several members have requested trades so far (former prospect QB – now WR Zach Vega has been cut, which has been the only move they’ve made). Their draft picks in the coming draft start in the third round, and then jump to the sixth… If any team needs a fire sale, it’s the Butchers

Liberty PHI : The Liberty always seemed to have one or two pieces missing. This year is no different, but their refusal to add immediate to their team has really hurt them. They sit at 3-6 in the NFSC (last) and should be looking to move some players on. The core of their team hits regression in S22, so there should be a lot of rentals available there. The only question is what will be their asking price?

Outlaws ARI : Arizona has had an unpredictably poor year. Granted at lot of it has to do with how great the Otters have done this year, but at 2-7, they are tied for the worst record in the AFSC. There isn’t a ton there to be sold off for the Outlaw, but with the right offer, someone can be moved.

Sabercats SJS : The Sabrecats are basement dwellers in the ASFC, though it’s not surprising. They are in the middle of a rebuild and made several great additions in the S21 draft. They do have several pieces which can be moved and could be very active in the coming hours of the Trade Deadline.

Players to Watch:

Freezer Reposte (DT – San Jose Sabrecats SJS ) – In his 9th season in the NSFL, Freezer Riposte has long been the staple of the San Jose defensive line. He is still a very good player, however regression will sink it’s teeth into Riposte quite hard. This might be his final year to really compete for a ring. As the best DT on the market, he’ll probably get some looks from the Wraiths and Hawks.

It’s more of how much the Sabrecats will look for him. They drafted Otis Allen last year, one of they premier DT in the draft, and likely Reposte’s replacement. The only question is whether or not they are ready to move on to the future.

Benson Harris (DT – Chicago Butchers CHI ) – In his 8th season, Harris is one of the less skilled starters being employed by the Butchers – who are stocked with sub-average linemen. Here is a deal that I can see the Butchers making this would be helpful of all of those involved.

Tyler Swift (FS – San Jose Sabrecats SJS ) – Tyler Swift is slated for retirement at the end of the season but can still bring a lot to a team that needs him. I’m sure Swift and the Sabrecats would love to see him retire in the gold and green, but if the right team comes knocking (Wraiths) with the right offer, anything can happen.

Dan Schneider (FS – Chicago Butchers CHI ) – Mr. Dan Schneider, despite being in his 10th season of football, is still a very good safety. Obviously not a starter anymore, he could still be a very good slot in safety for a team looking for some depth, or has a need in the position (Wraiths)

Lennox Garnett (FS – Philadelphia Liberty PHI ) – Garnett is in his 10th season with in the NSFL and going into his 11th. Despite no longer being a starting calibre player for the Liberty, he could still perform the role, or be great depth for a team that can perform. If the asking price for Swift is too high, perhaps the Wraith can make a move here

Ryan Leaf Jr. (RB – Chicago Butchers CHI ) – It is well known that Ryan Leaf Jr. wants out of the Chicago Butchers. Rather than risk losing him at the expansion draft, the Butchers will likely try to deal him now. The only question is – who will give more anything for a disgruntled player that will obviously be gone by the start of the next season.

He hasn't submitted an official retirement notice yet! And even if he does, he is still a rental this season
