*Who To Protect? CHI Edition - ValorX77 - 04-02-2020 Hello fellow simmers, and welcome to the inaugural post of, "Who To Protect?", the series that we go through all the team’s rosters, and determine what 7 players should be protected in the upcoming expansion draft. Today we’ll be focusing on the Chicago Butchers, and ask the question, Who To Protect? Before we dive into the list, I’ll explain how my system works, we have tier list of 3 tiers. First Tier: Shield That Boi! This tier is rather simple, the player is too risky to leave exposed in this upcoming draft. Second Tier: A Later Protection. This tier is another simple tier, they should be exposed but protected immediately after you lose someone else. The Bottom Tier: Hasta La Vista Baby. Another simple answer, this person needs to be sent off to Sarasota or Honolulu, he/she does not have any value on the team. We must analyze the team before we decide who gets sent to the picking grounds. The team: Record: 4-9, 4th in conference, missed playoffs. We must also remind everyone of the expansion draft rules. - The format will be a 12 round snake draft - Whoever selects first will be decided by lottery - Each team has 7 initial protection slots - Any active GM players must be protected by the team with their protection slots - After a player is taken in the expansion draft, their team is able to assign protection to another player. - S21 players are exempt from the expansion draft - Teams can use "Free Agent passes" in lieu of a protection slot. They can then re-sign the number of free agents that you have FA passes - Free Agents cannot be drafted in the expansion draft - A team can only lose 3 players in the expansion draft. Once the 3rd player is taken from your team, all your remaining players are safe from expansion - Expansion GM and co-GM players will count as a player taken in the expansion draft, but will not be taken through the draft order. It’s now time to analyze the butchers. Ryan Leaf Jr Tier: Shield That Boi. We start with my own player, it’s a pretty easy guess into why the butchers should protect me, and is because I’m their starting dual threat running back, and also their main kickoff returner. Despite entering regression in S22, he still has one more season of his prime left. Easily worth a protection slot. Rose Jenkins Tier: A Later Protection This quarterback has had a very interesting career, how did he manage to deal with multiple gm changes throughout his career? Well, don’t ask me. Jenkins recently announced that S22 will be his final season and QB becomes a sudden need for the butchers with this upcoming season being the final season of Rose Jenkins. Probably worth a later protection slot. Ahri Espeeyeeseetee Tier: Retired Good season as a receiver and a cornerback, but his time has come, he has retired from the Simulation gridiron. Farley Hank Tier: Shield That Boi Leaf’s backup and acquired in a controversial trade where the butchers ended up losing a first and second rounder for him and a inactive 300 TPE DT, but in my opinion he’s a solid RB2 in my book, and very consistent middle of the pack earner, but still has a season of his prime left too. Easily worth a protection slot. Before we get into the remaining players, I must remind everyone that this is just speculation, and not worth going up to my real home and attacking me. Thank you for your understanding, and it’s not a anti-Chicago post. And again, Thank you for your understanding. We’ll get into the retirees and IA players next Dan Schneider, Jake Utler, Spencer Castle, and Leighton Lee, will be retiring or likely being auto retired so, rip to these players ending their careers in Chicago. Thank you for your service, but you guys are officially decommissioned. For Harding and Vassallo, I’d expose both but in the end, use a protection slot on Vassallo because he’s active in another sim league. Now back to the actives. Sean O’Leary Tier: Shield That Boi The WR1, seems like an obvious protection to me, 1,000+ yards in 2 of his last 3 seasons, definitely in his prime and worth a protection slot just because of that. Disclaimer: S21 guys are automatically protected so that means Osiris Firestorm-Fjord, Jerome Davis, Perry Tucker Jr, and Raheem James are automatically protected as per the expansion draft rules. Thorian Skarsgard and Beat are tricky ones to predict, as both are active, but skarsgard is in regression and Beat is a low earner, I’d say both are protected. The final protection slots go to Mike Hockertz and Jack Rambo, because they’re cornerstones to the butchers Defense. Code: 768 words and 1.5x media ready to be graded *Who To Protect? Because you said protect later for her. As far as I know, they have no other QB. *Who To Protect? As far as I know, they have no other QB. I'd take the risk and not protect Jenkins. With both expansion teams looking to build for the future, I don't see spending any pick on a 1 season rental worth the effort for Sarasota. I single out Sarasota since Honolulu will start with Havran. Couple that with the literal meltdown that would occur if Jenkins was forcefully dragged from Chicago, I would assume it's not a situation either team wants to begin their franchise with. *Who To Protect? Which is definitely a valid point. However, if Jenkins is retiring after this season already, that's a decent stopgap for a season at QB while you develope one of your own. And if jiggly retires now, they would still get to use Jenkins next season. I'm not saying it's a great idea by any means, I was just curious as to what the plan would be if Jenkins did get taken. *Who To Protect?
