*NSFL Draft: Prospect Profile - Drizzy - 04-02-2020 [div align=\\\"center\\\"] ![]() Draft Prospect Profile: Mo Magic Hello and welcome to what will hopefully be the first of a few draft media articles I write in order to take full advantage of the 1.5x bonus that is on offer this week. For those who may not have seen the similar articles on prospects I’ve written in the SHL, these prospect profiles are essentially a way for me to take a deeper look at a player who I haven’t really taken the chance to evaluate fully before, in a way that’s hopefully somewhat enjoyable for you guys to read and earns me a little bit of cash at the same time. For this particular article, I decided to venture away from the teams in which I have a bit more familiarity with the members and go in totally blind on a player, based off nothing but their build and their performances in the sim so far. So with that in mind, the subject of this article is the Minnesota Grey Ducks’ defensive tackle, Mo “Mamba” Magic. The 24th overall pick in the S21 DSFL Draft, Magic has earned his status as one of the better prospects in his class, and hopefully this article will go some way toward helping us understand just why that is the case. So without further ado, let’s get into it. As mentioned previously, Magic is a defensive tackle. Opting to go with the balanced build type that allows for a mix of pass rushing and run stuffing play, Magic has a good size and weight, standing at 6’3” tall and weighing over 300 pounds. While he’s certainly a big boy, Magic is able to move quicker than you may think, as he has maxed out his speed weeks before the draft even happens. In fact, Magic hasn’t just maxed out his speed but has been able to somehow go over his maximum, and currently sits at 76 speed, which should have been capped at 75. This point aside, Magic is very quick out of the blocks, and can move with deceptive speed through the backfield and into either the running back or the quarterback. Magic also possesses impressive physical strength, being able to outmuscle a lot of offensive linemen who he’ll come across in the DSFL. This is combined with good tackling ability and a good level of fitness, which all in all gives him a solidly rounded out game. It’s not surprising that this was enough to make Magic a fairly early draft pick in a stacked DSFL draft last season, as teams obviously spotted his ability to become a force to be reckoned with at this level of play. This isn’t to say that Magic’s game at present is perfect. While the above attributes are indeed strengths in the DSFL, they will all require some work to be an advantage when the time comes for him to transition to the NSFL in the next few seasons. Additionally, I think there a few areas in which his game could be slightly better at this stage too. As mentioned before, Magic has good straight line speed and can be used effectively in both pass rush and run blitz plays, but I think there could be some improvements made to his agility and shed plays to keep offensive linemen on their toes more often. I would also like to see a better level of game knowledge on display from Mo, that is to say I think there could be improvements made to his “football intelligence”. The ability to read what an offense is doing better, adapt what he does to fit an individual play and even have more of a knack for preempting what is going to happen ahead of time will really enable Mo to elevate his game and become a complete defensive lineman at the NSFL level. I believe he has the natural talent and inherent understanding required to make this jump, it’d just be great to see him spend some more time studying the playbook and watching tape in order to see his intelligence in the context of the game rise up to match this. I’m going to now turn my attention to what we’ve seen from Mo so far in the sim this season. In the 12 games Mo had played in at the time of writing, he’d been able to record 25 tackles. For a rookie defensive lineman in the DSFL, these are pretty much solid numbers. Not spectacular but certainly decent enough in the context and something that he can be happy with. On top of this, 2 tackles for loss have also been recorded by Mo this season, which is something with which he can again be very happy. Additionally, Mo’s been able to force a fumble, a sign that his impressive strength translates into the ability to force the ball away from his opponent. Perhaps his best statistic this season however has been the four sacks he’s been able to record. Able to force his way through to the quarterback on multiple occasions, Mo has not been afraid to get his hands on the man passing the ball, and has been a bit of a nightmare for offensive coordinators to try and contain at the line of scrimmage. It’s certainly fair to say that Magic enjoys looking to make the big play whenever he can, and if what we’ve seen so far in terms of his ability to break a play before it gets going is an indication of what we can expect from him in the future, I expect a lot of coaches will be working their pass protection schemes around him in the future. While perhaps not the very best stats recorded by a rookie defensive lineman this season, Mo’s done a good job of finding his feet in the league quickly, and has demonstrated a lot of ability in adapting to the standard of play that’s been required of him by Minnesota. While this has been something of a tough season for the Grey Ducks following last season’s Ultimini victory, Magic has certainly been one of the bright spots on their team. So, this takes us to perhaps the main point of the article. When, and where, do I see Mo Magic getting drafted? This is a bit of a cop out here but I really can’t say I know with any certainty what’s going to happen. Magic is a very impressive prospect but with the sheer number of prospects and huge level of talent, it’s not easy to pick out where these prospects will be taken on the day. I could easily see Magic being a pick in the earlier rounds, and there’s certainly no shortage of teams who could look to add him given that the defensive line has been and continues to be a premium position. I could definitely see him going in somewhere between the second and the fourth round to a team that sees his value as a potential diamond in the rough. With the level of development that’s required to play defensive line being lower than a lot of the other positions in the league and the strong rate at which Magic has developed, it could be entirely possible that he’s seen playing in the big league has soon as next season dependent on where he ends up; if this is the case, all the best for your rookie campaign Mo and congrats on a great rookie season in the league as a whole.
