*S21 NOLA Game Balls - ddrector - 04-09-2020 I once again had the pleasure of writing the offensive game balls for the New Orleans Second Line this season. I also did a few defensive ones because my counterpart TerribleHippo who normally writes the defensive game balls was the one receiving them. After every game I write these and post them in the locker room on Discord for the team to read or ignore, but I figured why not compile all of them and post them as a media for all to see, so here you go. :football: :football: Week 1 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @TomHanks#6824 - Forrest Gump - 66 rush yards, 2 rush TD, 3 Rec, 79 Rec Yards, 1 Rec TD Starting off the season with a home game against the defending champs is always a big deal. It is an even bigger deal when those defending champs are the team that beat you three times last season including in the ASFC Championship Game. This was a huge game for the offense as they collectively put up 34 points against the Copperheads. The scoring started immediately as Stan found Austin McCormick for a 25 yard touchdown to put us up 7 to 0 early in the first quarter. Down 16 to 10 at half time Forrest Gump decided to kick it into gear and scored 2 rushing touchdowns in the 3rd quarter and added a 29 yard receiving touchdown early in the fourth that put the game pretty much out of reach. Kicking prodigee Herbert Prohaska was perfect on the day with 4 extra points and 2 field goals. He’ll be a valuable asset all season. The three second half touchdowns were the big difference in this game and why Forrest Gump earns the offensive game ball for this week. :football: :football: Week 2 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @TomHanks#6824 - Forrest Gump - 101 rush yards, 1 rush TD, 5 Rec, 108 Rec Yards Another big win at the beginning of the season for the Second Line! This time on the road against the SaberCats of San Jose. The NOLA offense got rolling early as we scored 20 straight points before the defense finally gave up a field goal at the end of the first half. Our running back duo did a lot of the heavy lifting in this one as both Forrest Gump and Marcella Toriki eclipsed the 100 yard mark rushing. They also made huge contributions in the passing game as Gump eclipsed the 100 receiving yards mark and both had 5 receptions. Ulysses and Rubbe combined for 14 delicious pancakes in the game. The offense outpaced the San Jose offense in every stat that matters and some that don’t. Almost 200 more yards of offense is the big difference. Interestingly, the time of possession wasn’t much different even though we ran a lot more than they did. I think that probably has something to do with the sim to be honest. Anyway, Forrest Gump earns his second straight game ball for this over 200 yard from scrimmage performance. Maybe next time he’ll let someone else shine as we are back at home to face the Arizona Outlaws next week. :football: :football: Week 3 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @bex#0592 - Marcella Toriki - 81 rush yards, 2 rush TD, 2 rec, 19 rec yards, 1 TDs We were again able to continue our undefeated season as the Arizona Outlaws came to town for a beating. Marcella Toriki took the game over with 3 total touchdowns. The crazy part is she could have not scored at all and we still would have won the game. Austin McCormick added another offensive touchdown to the board and kicking phenom Herbert Prohaska added 2 field goals. I haven’t even got to the return game yet, where Deon Taylor returned a 105 yard kickoff for a touchdown to start the third quarter and put us up 26 to 3. Overall a fantastic performance by the entire team. Our pair of excellent offensive linemen combined for another 10 delicious pancakes. Stan might have to take them out to ihop at the end of the season. Marcella had only accumulated one touchdown in the first two weeks of the season and decided to explode with 3 in one game to put her at four for the season at this early stage. The impressive one two punch of Gump and Toriki now have all 3 game balls so far this season. Will that continue in week 4? :football: :football: Week 4 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @KC15#1609 - Jed Podolak - 4 rec, 72 rec yards, 2 TDs If you haven’t heard of him before you’ve heard of him now. Jed Podolak just had his best game by far as a member of the Second Line. A multi touchdown game will put the entire league on notice that he will be a weapon on this offense for years to come. Fantasy owners are scrambling to see if they can drop their flex and pick him up. Not only did he put up 2 touchdowns, but he had 4 receptions and 72 receiving yards. That’s a whopping 18 yards per reception. Finally I get to write about someone this season not named Gump or Toriki (no offense I love you both, but good to see someone else take the spotlight for once). The entire passing offense came out to play in this one. Yes, the running backs combined for 164 yards, but that’s like mentioning every time Christian McCaffrey combines for over 200 yards from scrimmage (it happens almost every game). Stan threw for 234 yards and 3 touchdowns and an impressive 132.5 qb rating. Jones caught a nice long 43 yard touchdown in the 3rd that put the score at 34 to 6. The beasts on the line combined for another 11 pancakes. All in all this offense is rolling right now. Let’s hope that continues as we head into a clash of undefeated teams in Orange County. :football: :football: Week 5 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @Steven O’Sullivan#5500 - Herbert Prohaska - 5/5 FGs, 1/1 XP, 54.3 Punt Avg, 2 Inside 20 A clash of undefeated division rivals took place in Orange County in week 5, and despite being on the roads we overcame the sim gods and beat down our biggest rival the pesky Otters. The offense gained a lot of yards both in the air and on the ground, but when we came close to the red zone we could not quite finish the job. Luckily, our excellent kicker Herbert Prohaska was our very own Justin Tucker in this game. He hit 2 field goals in the 40+ yard range, 1 in the 30s, and 2 in the 20s. Adding another point with the lone extra point attempt he had puts his total points in this game to 16, which was almost enough on his own to beat the Otters. This game might have gone differently if the Otters had got the ball with less than 2 minutes to go only down 2, but they were down 5 and knew they needed a touchdown and that was too much for to overcome. Prohaska also did an excellent job in the punting game, which was a big help to our defense. He pinned the Otters inside the 20 twice and also boomed a kick for 65 yards. In the passing game Podolak had another excellent receiving game with 6 catches for 109 yards and a score. McCormick also had 6 receptions on the day. The offense put up almost 400 yards of offense, which is impressive. Overall an excellent performance against a tough opponent that now puts us in the driver seat for that coveted home field advantage. Let’s keep it up against the SaberCats and Liberty these next 2 games! :football: :football: Week 6 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @Nokazoa#7820 - Austin McCormick - 6 Rec, 82 yards, 2 TDs Of the 23 points we scored against the SaberCats 12 of them were from standout tight end Austin McCormick. The other 11 were from last weeks game ball recipient Herbert Prohaska. McCormick continues to develop into a dominant tight end who will be making an impact in this league for years. Aside from his two touchdowns he also had a long 39 yard reception in the game. Both of his touchdowns came in the first half as we took a 20 to 9 lead into the half after McCormick scored with 2 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter. The lone score in the entire 2nd half was a Herbert Prohaska field goal to up the margin of victory to 14. Shockingly, the SaberCats stymied our two headed rushing attack in this one as they combined for only 109 rushing yards, which is probably a season low (I’m too lazy to go back and look). Interestingly the SaberCats actually outgained us in yardage by over 100 yards and controlled the clock, but they were only able to score twice, so they mostly moved the ball outside of field goal range it seems. :football: :football: Week 7 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @TomHanks#6824 - Forrest Gump - 98 rush yards, 1 rush TD, 3 Rec, 47 Rec Yards, 1 Rec TD I want to start this by saying amazing job from everyone on the team for getting us to this historical point where we are for the first time in team history 7-0 to start a season. Let’s keep it going! There were a couple familiar options for the game ball for this week. Herbert Prohaska again did an incredible job kicking as he contributed 15 of the 33 points scored in this game. In the end I decided to give this game ball to Gump as he scored twice in this one, which helped extend our lead and get us to 7-0. He did it both on the ground and in the air as he had close to 150 combined yards. Last weeks game ball winner Austin McCormick again lead the team in receptions. He has become our very own Travis Kelce. Marcella Toriki also had a good game as she added 115 yards from scrimmage and a score as well. With all the weapons we have on the field I don’t know how any defense can stand a chance at stopping this offense. You shut down Gump you get Toriki. You shut down both you get a myriad of receiving options in the passing attack. Let’s keep it up as we travel to Austin to take on the defending champion Copperheads in week 8. :football: :football: Week 8 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @JuOSu#0130 - Stan Francisco - 368 passing yards, 3 TD, 124.6 QB rating Wow, 7 touchdowns in one game is impressive. It’s even more impressive against the reigning Ultimus champions who we have now swept this season. Everyone on the offense scored in this one. Our game ball recipient for this week, Stan Francisco, threw touchdowns to Podolak, Jones, and McCormick. Toriki ran 2 touchdowns in and Gump added one on the ground and one on a punt return. An excellent performance all around. Stan got three different players to almost 100 yards each. He was efficient in spreading the ball around in this one. He was only 6 yards shy of having the same amount of yards passing as the Copperheads had total. It’s amazing how many different ways this team can beat it’s opponent. Some games we seemingly run it right down their throat all game and have close to 200 yards rushing. Other games we pass much more often and the rushing attack takes a back seat. This diversity in the offense truly gives us an edge over our opponents who have no idea what to scheme for in any given week. We have a game against division rival Arizona Outlaws in Arizona next week, so keep your focus as we are getting down to the final few weeks of the regular season. :football: :football: Week 9 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @Nokazoa#7820 - Austin McCormick - 6 Rec, 67 yards, 1 TD 9 wins in a row! Incredible performance as we lead throughout due to scoring early. The first score of the game came from game ball recipient Austin McCormick who dominated the receiving game in this one. Of the 15 completions and 136 passing yards McCormick had almost half of each. The Arizona defense didn’t have an answer for him. Later in the 3rd the Outlaws had just scored their first touchdown of the game to get the score within 7. We had a 3rd and 10 just outside the redzone and McCormick caught the ball for 12 yards for a crucial first down that put us in the redzone where Toriki ended up scoring a touchdown that put our lead to 2 scores. The only other scores in the game were a Herbert Prohaska field goal and a beautiful 93 yard kickoff return for Deon Taylor. If my memory serves correctly he’s had multiple return TDs this season. Onto a big 2 game home stand where we face off with the Wraiths and Otters. :football: :football: Week 10 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @JuOSu#0130 - Stan Francisco - 297 passing yards, 2 TDs, 107 QB rating Stan earns his second gameball of the season for this phenomenal performance in the close loss to the Yellowknife Wraiths. The offense was able to put up 29 points total, but it wasn’t quite enough and we have now suffered our first loss of the season. Hopefully we all learn some valuable lessons in this one about what it takes to win against good teams. Stan did a great job spreading the ball around in this one with five different receivers at 4 or more receptions. The touchdown passes were caught by Toriki and Podolak in this one, but Jones was the yardage standout eclipsing the 100 yard mark for the game including a 41 yard reception. Kicking expert Herbert Prohaska had another good game as he hit a 52 yard field goal at the end of the 2nd quarter. Forrest Gump added a score on a punt return. It feels like our return game has scored us a ton of points this season. It’s impressive to watch. :football: :football: Week11 Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @TomHanks#6824 - Forrest Gump - 86 rush yards, 4 Rec, 32 Rec Yards, 1 Rec TD This is some sim fuckery right here. 255 yards of offense and 13 points at home is just not something that should happen. However, we will persevere and come out of this rough two game losing stretch a better stronger team. Despite our worst performance of the season I still have to hand out a game ball, and while it sucks to lose we still need to recognize hard work and one of the reasons this was only a 4 point loss. Forrest Gump had almost half of our total yards on offense and scored one of the two touchdowns. Bona’beri Jones scored the other. This feels like a classic hanging out heads coming off our first loss of the season and letting that spiral into another loss. Let’s not let that happen again and pick it up for the rest of the season. We’ve just got to get through two road games against NSFC teams and we are onto the playoffs. :football: :football: Week 11 Defensive Game Ball :football: :football: @terriblehippo#4928 - Quenton Bode - 10 tackes, 1 sack Close loss aside the defense did their part in this game to keep us in it. Only giving up 17 points to the Otters is a tremendous effort. Quenton Bode lead the way with 10 tackles and a sack. He was instrumental in forcing the Otters to punt making tackles short of the line to gain on multiple drives that ended with the Otters punting. Faux and Adams also added important sacks in this game and Taylor even added a forced fumble that might’ve turned the game around had we been able to recover it. The defense did a great job against Otters running back Ludicolo Bigby holding him to a mere 2.9 yards per carry on 24 attempts. This was a close loss and I think if we get a chance to play them again in the playoffs that we will come out on top. :football: :football: Week 12 Defensive Game Ball :football: :football: @terriblehippo#4928 - Quenton Bode - 13 tackes, 1 TFL, 1 sack The Second Line had a close battle with the Hawks on the road. We came just one point short of at least forcing over time. Quenton Bode stepped up and lead the defense with 13 tackles including a tackle for loss and a sack. Adams, Ironside, and Ben also got sacks in this game. Bode the bear was all over the field making stops on many crucial plays on drives that forced the Hawks to either punt or settle for a field goal. This was a tough loss as we had the lead with under 2 minutes to go and we couldn’t quite make the stop as Havran completed a 20 yard touchdown pass with just over a minute to go to take a one point lead. Bode had made a nice tackle on the play before to hold Williams to just a 4 yard gain on the ground, but Kross found a hole in the secondary and that was it. This was a tough loss to swallow seeing this incredible defense give up the lead at the end, but we are still in position to make a run in the playoffs and that’s all that matters. :football: :football: Week 13 Defensive Game Ball :football: :football: @terriblehippo#4928 - Quenton Bode - 15 tackes This is a hard game to talk about, but Bode did everything he could to keep the defense fired up and in this game. He was instrumental in keeping the Butchers run game in check as we held them to under 4 yards a carry on the ground. Bode ended up with an impressive 115 tackles on the season. Slothface and Arianlacher were also instrumental in stopping the ground game as they each added a tackle for loss. The lone sack in this game came from Faux. Unfortunately, the Butchers found their success through the air in this one as Rose Jenkins had 4 passing touchdowns on 20 of 27 passes. Easily the worst performance of the season for the secondary. I honestly don’t even know what happened in this one as we gave up more points in this game than any other game this season and also our only loss by more than 4 points in the season. It’s like we forgot to show up and play in this one as we look ahead to our wildcard matchup with the Austin Copperheads. We lost in the ASFC championship game to Austin last year, so it’s time to avenge that loss. Let’s put these last 4 games in the rear view and put all our focus on the playoffs. :football: :football: Wildcard Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @TomHanks#6824 - Forrest Gump - 125 rush yards, 3 Rec, 32 Rec Yards @bex#0592 - Marcella Toriki - 93 rush yards, 1 rush TD, 2 rec, 14 rec yards In this special wildcard round edition of the game ball I decided to give out not one, but two game balls for our big win against the defending champion Austin Copperheads. The two headed rushing attack of Gump and Toriki combined for 264 yards of the 432 total yards the offense gained in the game. They also both added rushing touchdowns in the game, which were our only touchdowns in the game. Prohaska came in and had a nice game hitting a couple 40+ yard field goals. Austin could not find an answer for Gump or Toriki all game as Gump had 6.2 yards per carry and Toriki finished with 5.8 yards per carry. Both very impressive numbers. In the passing game it was a lot of Austin McCormick. He finished the game with 7 receptions, over double the next player. He was instrumental in this win catching multiple passes on scoring drives. It’s always hard to find the rhythm again on offense after a loss. Even more so after four losses in a row, but the offense did what they needed to do and we can put those losses in the rear view as we finally got another win and we can put all our focus on our trip to Orange County where we get a chance to beat the Otters for the second time on their own field this season. :football: :football: Conference Championship Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @KC15#1609 - Jed Podolak - 6 rec, 112 rec yards, 1 TD @toivo#6260 - Bona’beri Jones - 6 rec, 103 yards, 1 TD What a monumental win that took a great effort from everyone on the offense to pull off. If I could just give a game ball to every player on the team I would, but for this week I’ll stick with two like I did for the wildcard round. Both Podolak and Jones did work in the receiving game this week, and both deserve a game ball for their performances. They both started hot out the gate as Jones caught his touchdown from Stan late in the first and Podolak followed it up early in the second with his own touchdown. On the drive that Jones scored he also had a huge 24 yard reception on 3rd and 10 to keep the drive alive. He also had a big 23 yard catch in overtime that set up the game winning field goal from Herbert Prohaska. Podolak had a big 3rd down reception for 30 yards on the drive he scored on to put the team in a goal to go situation. He also caught two passes for first downs on the drive in the fourth that Toriki scored on. This was an excellent performance by both receivers. Obviously these guys would not have had the success they did without an excellent performance from our fearless leader Stan Francisco who had an excellent performance with 318 passing yards and 2 touchdowns. Big shout out to the offensive line Rubbe and Ulysses who combined for 13 pancakes and no sacks allowed. It was a pleasure to watch this offense work in this one and I can’t wait to see everyone do their thing in the Ultimus! :football: :football: Ultimus Championship Offensive Game Ball :football: :football: @JuOSu#0130 - Stan Francisco - 353 passing yards, 3 TDs, 107 QB rating @TomHanks#6824 - Forrest Gump - 102 rush yards, 3 Rec, 119 Rec Yards, 1 Rec TD @bex#0592 - Marcella Toriki - 123 rush yards, 1 rush TD, 7 rec, 44 rec yards @KC15#1609 - Jed Podolak - 4 rec, 63 rec yards @toivo#6260 - Bona’beri Jones - 6 rec, 101 yards, 1 TD @Nokazoa#7820 - Austin McCormick - 2 Rec, 26 yards, 1 TD @caltroit_red_flames#2462 - Givussafare Rubbe - 11 Pancakes @PaytonM34#6735 - Brave Ulysses - 9 Pancakes @Steven O’Sullivan#5500 - Herbert Prohaska - 2/2 FGs, 3/4 XP Amazing performance by everyone on the team! I first want to first talk about our fearless leaders juosu and TomHanks who have spent many seasons building this team up from almost nothing and also leading the offense on the field with Stan Francisco and Forrest Gump. Without the work they’ve put in over the seasons both in the draft and in making trades and free agent signings to get this group together we wouldn’t be where we are. Juosu is now stepping down as GM, but we’ll never forget the work she put in to build this team and help us win this championship. The offense decided to wait until the Ultimus to have they’re best game of the season. 578 yards of offense! What a performance from everyone! Stan had a huge performance with 353 yards passing and 3 touchdowns. Bona’beri Jones finishes his career with 6 receptions for 101 yards and a touchdown. You can’t ask for much better than that in your final game. Podolak added 4 receptions and 63 yards to his already growing playoff stats. He is sure to see those numbers continue to grow. McCormick added 2 receptions for 26 yards and a touchdown. He also added 3 pancakes in the game. Speaking of pancakes, the fair rub club was huge in this game as Rubbe had 11 pancakes and Ulysses had 9 and neither gave up a sack. It wasn’t all the passing game that did the work in this one. The rushing attack had a monumental day as well. Forrest Gump not only eclipsed 100 rushing yards with 102 in this one, but he also had 3 receptions for 119 yards and a score. A huge performance from Gump in the Ultimus as he had over 200 yards of offense. Toriki also had a big game with 123 rushing yards and a score plus she added a team leading 7 receptions for 44 yards. Our special teams ace came in when needed and had a good game kicking like he always does with 2 field goals and 3 for 4 on extra points. He wasn’t asked to do much in this one as the offense found the endzone more often than not. Looking through the play by play I just have to point out one play that to me is the play of the game for the offense. It was the 3rd quarter and Yellowknife had just kicked a field goal to finally put some points on the board. We were up 17 and knew that if we had to punt Yellowknife might take the momentum and get back in the game. We started the drive running with Toriki gaining 28 yards on 3 consecutive carries to get us in Yellowknife territory. With 1st and 10 on the 49 Stan dropped back and with a clean pocket found Forrest Gump about 10 yards deep just to the left of the hash. It looked like the play was over as Logan Lejune was right on top of Gump right when he caught the ball, but Gump’s fast feet were too much for Lejune to handle as he ran the other 39 yards down the field for the 49 yard touchdown. Not only was it a huge play because it was almost a 50 yard score, but coming at the end of the 3rd quarter and not letting the Wraiths take the momentum was huge. There is not enough I can say about how great the offense played not only in this game, but all season. We were the highest scoring offense in the season with 374 points. It’s been a pleasure writing game balls for this crew this year. Can’t wait to do it again next season. *S21 NOLA Game Balls - Jay_Doctor - 04-09-2020 Always appreciate all the work put into game balls! |
