*Giannis Kroustis unfiltered, vol.11 - Air Crou - 04-21-2020

Welp, it has been a long while since I wrote a blog post. So many seasons have gone by. So many lost Ultimus bowls, a position change, my first Pro Bowl after switching to DT from safety. But this blog post is not for those. I wouldn't start writing at 6 o'clock in the morning to talk about past games.

The reason of the post is to shed light to some things that escalated the past few hours, that led to me being asked to step down from the Portland Pythons co-GM spot, as you can see by clicking here. I briefly spoke about them there, but I want to get a bit more in depth, because things in DSFL GM chat have gone crazy the past few weeks.

But let's start from the very beginning. Back when I got the job. I was brought in by @KanakoTheSquirrel a week or so before the S20 DSFL Draft. You know, the one with TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY ONE PLAYERS IN IT! We barely even had time or chance to scout everyone. We do the draft, and after a couple weeks, the idiot in me came out and I said we didn't have a second active RB, because we didn't draft one due to not needing them. Well, I was wrong. We had drafted a RB. The guy was active as hell. Yet, he slipped through a crack, and so many people in the war room missed him. (I will take the blame for it. I should be the one to double crosscheck the rosters and depth charts before sending them in.) And I went on and spoke about it in the DSFL GM chat, trying to somehow save face, even though I knew we had fucked up. But I lowkey hoped it would be forgotten.

Well, I had chosen the wrong chat to do it. We got punished 2.5m dollars each for it. We appealed, we were told we had gotten a slap on the wrist and the punishment was upheld. We didn't really pay much attention there, and tried to move on. But alas, some certain people in the DSFL GM chat didn't try to move on from that and kept bringing it up. I let it slide once, twice, thrice, 10 times, 100 times. Then the hussle with draft picks happened. I get it in a 271-person draft, but when we are talking about 78 people, and considering that neither me nor Kanako live in the US or the American continent, people should be a bit more lenient to it. We tried to talk about all this with HO in our liaison line, but nothing came out of it.

Now I want to make a break to this to take you back in time, all the way back to S15, my send down season that I didn't want to talk about in a previous post. Well, it's time to address what happened back then and why I have issues with a certain GM, which I will not name. You can go and check the history books to find him. He knows who he is. That season started well, but went bad fast. As a person, I hate losing as much as I hate cliques. And when my team goes from hero to zero, while I have busted my ass, then whoever runs shop didn't try enough. Or they did try, but for the wrong thing. Personal achievements and records are cool, but winning championships is way more important. At least in my book, I don't know about his. I have been vocal about it since, and we have gotten into it with him quite a few times, about many things. Imagine he won't even put me in the team Hall of Fame because I get into it with him. I guess people don't really like getting called out.

Fast forward to today. I throw one at him for the team HoF thing, and we get into it. During that back-and-forth, I revealled one thing I have always kept inside. Back in S15, I asked for a trade because the team started flopping hard. The truth is, my first thought was to go inactive. The good thing is that Yellowknife called me up in S16 and that season was a thing of my past. But I didn't forget.

You wanna know his response? "I don't think anyone would be opposed if you still want to quit tbh".
I know that me calling him a piece of s**t right afterwards didn't help me, but if people like that are allowed in GM positions, then I don't think I should be in this league. This is by no means me saying I am calling it quits yet. I love my Yellowknife family so much I will honor my contract to the last day, after S24 is over.

After that, I don't know what's on my future. I feel like utter shit after having that comment thrown at me. I have put 8 seasons in this league, all the way back in S14, when I was drafted to the DSFL, and I am now entering my 9th season. I am one of the few actives of my class. And I have people talk to me like this. I know, I swear a lot, but that's part of my character and I can't do anything about it, apart from trying to control it. I was born like it. But comments like that drive people away from the league. And I know how the Head Office tries to BRING people in, not drive them away. Before today, I'd recommend the league to anyone I know. After seeing the true colors of some people, I don't really know if I even want to be a part of it anymore.

If you read it all, know that I love you and it has been an amazing ride to this day. I don't know when the next part will come, and even if it will come. But you will see me around till S24.
And you, the one who made that comment, I hope that driving someone active even more away made your day, even though you were adamant to remove all inactive players from DSFL.

Cheers guys!

Agreed on the hating the cliquey nature of the league. This is something I brought up in my end of season HO survey. Idk how you can stop it because it's something that happens naturally just like it does in any other social situation.

The rest of this I can't get behind. I think harboring resentment towards your S15 DSFL GMs (me being one of them), as we were rookie GMs that made a single mistake that severely limited our high potential team, is crazy. I was your teammate and GM, I get that you're a passionate guy. Unfortunately you have to know when to stop, and I think you continuously take minor annoyances and turn them into much bigger issues.

Should you have been fired, probably not, but that tends to happen when you piss off the people who can take jobs away.

The guy that made the comment is still in his position though. That's where the cliquey thing comes into play... unfortunately

this sucks. if head office doesn’t do anything to punish the other guy they’re condoning this behavior, especially from a person who interacts with rookies all the time

Im sorry to hear all this. I know it can be really tough sometimes. I dont know how many times ive wanted to quit over the years and still do. I get harboring grudges, i am trying to work through mine because i know thats the healthy thing to do, but its certainly never easy.

Sad truth is just that this league, and sim leagues in general, are toxic. Some people can just handle it better than others, i know im not one of them haha, i handle it poorly pretty much all the time lmao. But in the end, no matter what action anyone takes, theyll always be toxic. And the league always has been toxic, people like to say "this is different" but theyre dead wrong, they just have the rosy glasses on or didnt have to be the ones behind the scenes dealing with it like i did. Its a systemic problem with probably just the internet as a whole, and i dont have a solution.

Thats enough doom and gloom, ive done too much of that during these days already. Im here to talk if you ever need it and i hope that you do whats best for you, even if thats leave the league, id be sad to see you go but your mental health should always come first

If I leave, it will be the sane thing to do. But change will not happen. The MB fiasco with Jeffie didn't show anything. People retired cuz of it. Nobody cared. This happened now. Nobody will care. And it all comes down to who is in power. The league had a chance to change the ones in power. We didn't tale advantage of it. And that is what we get. Preferential treatment in favor of certain people.

I can tell you this first part is false. A lot has changed in MB and a lot was changing days before the fiasco even went down and there are people that can back me up when I say that. The people around the Buccaneers do care and we're been trying to keep a positive attitude around the LR for the last 2 weeks or so. Maybe I'm just misunderstanding your comment, but in the case that I'm not, people 100% did care about the events and it did result in promise and change for the team.

I dont think its the people in power's fault. They have done a wonderful job and have taken the league from a nothing to a powerhouse that might now be the biggest and best league out there, which is crazy and certainly nothing I could have done. Its just there are bad people everywhere, and im sure people differ in opinion on who is bad or not. If the league took the chance to change who was in power i think it would have been a disaster personally, but i know there is certainly some toxicity around right now and maybe some changes would need to be made in the DSFL ranks.

I am talking about the league as a whole. There are still toxic people in there. I get you changed the LR, but I am not there to know, and thanks for letting me know. The league as a whole pleads ignorance. And that is a shame. I was rightfully asked to step down. But I expect the same treatment towards everyone.
