*Wealth Inequality in the NSFL Part 2 - infinitempg - 04-23-2020 Some of you might recall my last analysis of Wealth Inequality in this league, where we discovered that the richest 4 users had almost as much wealth as the bottom 50% of the league. Well I'm here to report that these numbers have (sort of) improved! Though this may be misleading... Here is the new graph, now with the top five wealthiest users: (you may need to click on this to make it readable) ![]() What we can clearly see here is the strengthening of the league economy as a whole. All classes saw increases in their wealth:
The biggest sign that the wealth is at least becoming more equal is that the richest members control less of the total wealth of the league. When I last did this analysis 2 months ago, the total league economy consisted of $12.9B with the richest 4 users controlling $1.16B of it, equating to about 9.6% of the economy. Now, the richest 4 control $1.37B (an increase in $210M) of the league's total $16.62B (an increase of $3.72B), equating to 6.98% of the economy. Much of this can be attributed to the gargantuan recruiting classes that have come through in the last 2 months, allowing an influx of new users to enter the population with shiny $5M DSFL contracts. This causes a shift in the population, biasing towards these new users who have essentially received free money and allowing the system to look more equal without actually being so. The S21 class contained 109 users and the S22 class contained 284 users, a vast majority of which are brand new recruits. Even assuming only 80% of these users are brand new (a severe underestimation), that increases the population of the league by 314 users who again all get $5M right off the bat. That is a 31% increase in population from 992 users to the present 1306. I don't know that it's fair to call the system more equal when the only users who seem to have truly benefited are brand new ones, while older users may not have seen much benefit to them. Further complicating things is the separation of the 0.1% from the rest of the 1%. Only 10 users have over $100M to their name, and only 3 have over $200M to their name. Counting up all the users who have less than $200M gives us a total wealth of $985M. Counting up the 2 wealthiest users (myself and @IsaStarcrossed) gives us a total wealth of $973M. If we look at spots 3-10 on the top 10 list, we see a stark comparison in gained wealth. In the last two months, those 7 places (the users have changed, for the record) gained a total value of $127M ($1.065B → $1.192B). The top two users (who remained the same) gained a total value of $182M ($791M → $973M). The rich are getting richer, but the super rich are getting super-richer. So what do we do from here? I don't know. The richest certainly have earned their places there (@Bigred1580, for example, did over 100 graphics for the S22 NSFL Draft to push him into third place and over $200M in his bank). We also don't necessarily want everyone to be able to afford max weekly trainings and max equipment. Media has proven time and time again to be a quick way up the ladder, with Isa having used his brief stint as media emperor to catapult himself to his $516M and @Tesla now having broken $120M through a media blitz as well. Graphics, who as of last writing I complained of as being underpaid, are now seeing a pay boost across all ranking score to a maximum payout of $3M (double the previous maximum). Many departments are also receiving bonus money from HO to dole out to users who do outstanding work in their jobs, and that should help productive users earn a fair share. What do you think should be done? Should there even be anything else done? As last time, I'm supplying a table that will let you check your rank, percentile, and percent of league wealth you own! You can check that out here: https://www.datawrapper.de/_/MXOMO/ Code: 780 words, give me money so I can catch up to Isa smh *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL Part 2 - Warner - 04-23-2020 so what ur saying is give me more money right *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL Part 2 - IsaStarcrossed - 04-23-2020 (04-23-2020, 02:09 PM)infinitempg Wrote:Further complicating things is the separation of the 0.1% from the rest of the 1%. Making us look bad out here, infinite. *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL Part 2 - C9Van - 04-23-2020 I mean i'd be up there with you if x2 media didn't die ![]() 80 million will have to do. *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL Part 2 - Naosu - 04-23-2020 I believe the article payout should be changed to be more in favor of posters. You don't see a decent payout until 2500 words and that would pay out a lot higher than say two 1250 word articles. This is the only league I'm in where draft media is 1.5x instead of 2x. I think this is the biggest change that should be considered. The league doesn't have a real world economy so there's no harm in giving players a little more money and making it more fun. It was great of them to have a two week span and I don't want to downplay that, but it was too early. Draft media ended before the DSFL draft even happened so people can't get a bonus for post DSFL draft articles. It's troubling that fresh rookies aren't able to cash in on any fun draft review/recap articles. *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL Part 2 - Warner - 04-23-2020 (04-23-2020, 04:24 PM)Naosu Wrote:I believe the article payout should be changed to be more in favor of posters. SMH! Making us look bad out here, infinite. My bad! Didn't realize we were still $12M away ![]() *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL Part 2 - Frostbite - 04-23-2020 You should distribute the wealth. The amount of times this communist establishment has undervalued the workers who are paid in peanut butter is blasphemy, and quite frankly I do not approve of it. The rich making billions as the poor suffer in poverty. You rich folk and your rich money, I am sick of it. Poor innocent mckee29 has been living in the dumps for years! putting 12 hours a day in the factory, and you just let him starve. DOWN WITH THE RICH, DOWN WITH WEALTHY, LET THE POOR RISE UP, AND LET THEM TAKE OVER ![]() also gib monies *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL Part 2 - ADwyer87 - 04-23-2020 TOO. MUCH. MONEY We have tons of money and nothing to do with it. Finding money is just way too easy. Certain jobs pay way too much, I think the best example is Bex, with the difference between her commish pay (which as a former commish, is soul crushingly difficult) and her offseason presenting (which as a former events coordinator head, is not easy but much much less work) was 1M. I think this will discourage members to do harder work. Hell, I know im done working, but seeing me do 2 years of work to be passed in a season just like that is super depressing and certainly kills my drive to do anything Very simply, we need to pay LESS. SO MUCH LESS. or we need to make MORE THINGS TO BUY. Our sim economy is absolute garbage, has been for decades. THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW! our irl economy is going down the shitter so who knows maybe this will become super relevant lol *Wealth Inequality in the NSFL Part 2 - mithrandir - 04-23-2020 Agreed that the worst part of this league is its economy. It's so easy to make money and there is nothing to spend it on. This means that many players take minimum salaries and teams can't lure free agents with big salary offers. |
