*The Sylphreni Show - Episode 7 - Sylphreni - 04-27-2020

Hey everybody, hope you all are having a FANTASTIC weekend! Just got done wrapping up this interview podcast with iStego, and really excited to see what you all think. A bit of a warning, we did our mic check, and then Steg had to move locations... For some reason after that his audio came in quieter. So for the first portion of the podcast I sound very loud, and he is rather quiet. I caught it mid recording, and turned him up a bit and in editing tried to crank him up even more.... It's not perfect in it's final form, but the content is fantastic, so hopefully you'll be able to look past the first bit.

As always, appreciate any feedback you have..... Here's what you can expect on the show today:
  • A synopsis of the NSFL scouting experience
  • iSteg recapping his time leading up to the draft
  • We both discuss going 1oa in our respective classes
  • We play a fantastic new game called "Know Your Stego!!!"
  • We talk all things sim...... aka: Steg nerds out
  • We play tourguide for our respective states
  • And much, much more!
LISTEN HERE

Notes for the Grader
  • Please split payment between myself and Steg 50/50
  • Please donate 5% of my payment to Big Edd.... he's been standing outside that McDonalds for far too long

Thanks for having me on Syl! I'm obviously really biased but I think its a great pod - worth a listen even though you'll probably have to crank the audio when I talk.

@Big Edd

Hey there, just wanted to take responsibility for the point on my show that I made about @iStegosauruz to both you and him and anyone that might view this and not my show. That was something that I said, and the point of the show was not to label anyone "busts." In fact, we state repeatedly that we love everyone in this most recent draft and think that everyone that was drafted will do amazing things for their team. Especially in the first round, it's almost impossible to nitpick any of the picks made. I love and believe in you iStegosauruz and I apologize if I misrepresented the point that I was trying to make, and I especially want to say this is something I said and did not represent the opinion of ADwyer87, CLG Rampage, and Colabear.

That said, my point was that I viewed you as someone in this league that can and should be leading a team in the NSFL (and you've been doing a great job doing that in the DSFL so far!). That, plus I do worry about you possibly doing too much between media, DSFL GMing, and working hard to make Austin the best it can be. I made the point that I would have to be concerned as the Austin GM that I'm making an all-in move for the team for the next couple of years, especially since they aren't calling up Colt Mendoza and yes, the possibility of you leaving to be an expansion GM was a big part of it. I'm so happy to hear you enjoy being a part of the Austin Copperheads team and am excited to see what you all can do (as long as you never beat my Otters). Anyways, just wanted to drop in and clear that up, because, while we wanted to provide some level of criticism to the NSFL Draft, we all totally believe in you as a player.

Appreciate the comment man. I hadn't listened to your podcast yet when that question was broached to me. Either way though, I definitely didn't take any offense to it. I understand the logic behind being concerned in getting proper value out of a player - I think that was more the framing of the conversation having now listened to your pod than just "gem" or "bust."

As I talked about with Syl on the pod I think its an interesting value proposition. I think there's a lot of flexibility with the move and its hard to judge it too much now without any knowledge about future expansion or the results of this season for Austin. The opinion on the move can change drastically depending on if Austin wins an Ultimus this season for example.

These are all good conversations that the league should be having though. Player valuation and projections are vital to league health. The more critically teams are thinking about moves the better the moves will end up being, raising the competitive environment in the league.

Well thank you for giving the podcast a listen, I just wanted to make sure it was clear that we in no way wanted to try and call out "busts" and more wanted to explore which teams got the best and worst value at their positions in the draft. The reason I brought up that idea in the first place was to get more ideas from people and to think more critically about the environment, as you stated. I absolutely agree with your point about it being an interesting and unorthodox pick as far as the value proposition goes and I think that was more what I wanted to discuss. I thought it was an unorthodox and high-pressure choice for Austin and a choice that will take some time to see the full fruits of. Thanks for hearing that through and again for listening to the full podcast, I know if the point I was making was floated out as being about me being a bust, I would have a hard time wanting to engage with that positively.

@qWest

Apologize for any misrepresentations I made. I was going to ask Steg about expansion one way or another, and I thought the take on your pod was a great way to do it. Also, wanted to give you guys a shout out, as I thought it was great content!

Sorry bud, someone already beat you on the first-to-last thing. @NamelessNate went 1st overall with his linebacker Allen Josh back in S14(?) before recreating as a quarterback, Tom Sofa, and got drafted last (271st overall) in last season’s DSFL draft.

Also I can’t believe you said that about @Big Edd, smh.

Y'know @Big Edd always struck me as a boxer briefs guy but I stand corrected. Thanks for clarifying that and for the analysis.

As a member of Chicago, I can say the bot asking for your favorite TSwift song definitely exists. I explicitly tell anyone that joins the locker room not to answer if I can catch them in time and I complain on Twitter anytime the Butchers account makes a TSwift reference. I mean what are we saying to interested prospects when we do this? @`BayleyIsland` has done a lot for us but yeah the TSwift stuff.....I mean..... I'm only under contract two more seasons just gotta remind myself. Hopefully he listens to this pod and gets some knowledge.

Umm kumquat

What a real tour de force of a podcast, the two top picks in the drafts. Excellent stuff as always. I too have fallen behind on my regular podcasts because of all the good pods people in the league have been putting out. Also when you asked the trivia about stegosaurus being believed to have two of something my mind went to a bad place. Not sure what that says about me.

Almost done, I would definitely enjoy a video/podcast series by steg. Maybe not to learn how to sim but just to hear what he has to say about the sim, interesting or funny findings, etc. Especially if he got TC to join, wow that would be a treat.

I'd also love to hear Syl do a podcast on ice cream hot takes (cold takes?). Seriously Cherry Garcia, I agree GTFO with that nonsense. Also found it particularly amusing hearing you furiously typing after steg recommended Halo top. That stuff is excellent and unlike B&J's won't kill you if you eat a whole pint

What the heck is this comment? Can I downvote?
