*NSFL MVP Rankings (Thru Week 7) - nickyvmlp - 05-10-2020 Back by popular demand (probably), it’s the NickyV MVP Rankings. (I’ve never realized until now how close that is to my actual username.) I’ve wanted to bring this back for a while now, and since I’m now a part of the Awards Committee now, this could be a fun peek behind the curtain, and let you in on one of the voices deciding these awards. The only rule on this is that you have to be active in order to be in contention for an award (sorry Ruff Ruff, not updating in three months is a bad look). Beginning with the honorable mentions, Mike Hockhertz (Butchers, @CDub2) is the best player right now on a floundering Butchers team, and was instrumental in them getting their first win of the season on Friday. Ryan Leaf Jr. (Copperheads, @ValorX77) is the model of versatility that he’s been for the last few years, and is leading the league in rushing/receiving touchdowns with eight. Saba Donut (Outlaws, @SabaDonutMan) is the target of choice in the league’s best passing attack, and is leading the league in receiving yards. Jay Cue (Outlaws, @Opera_Phantom) is throwing those passes to Saba, and is leading the league in passing yards, it’s just a shame that the majority of those passes are in garbage time, although an upset win over the Yeti has Cue trending in the right direction. Mathias Hanyadi (Wraiths, @CLG Rampage) is the best active RB in the league in a league where the stars are the quarterbacks. But, he’s still second in the league in all-purpose TDs, and can seemingly do it all on a high-octane Yellowknife offense. And finally two defensive aces, AJ Lattimer (Otters, @TeyonSchavari) and Galf Wilf (Outlaws, @Moosecop). Lattimer is leading the league in both deflections and interceptions (tied), while Wilf is leading in sacks. 6. ![]() Best game: Week 5 at Philadelphia: 22/38, 268 yards, 4 TDs, 2 INTs, 92.9 rating, GW TD in overtime It was honestly a bit tough for me to decide which QB would make the top six, Bigsby or Cue. Their difference in passing yards is in the double-digits. Completion percentage and touchdown-to-interception ratio are almost identical, and Cue has more rushing yards. So why did Cooter make the cut? The efficiency, for one thing. Cooter got all of that done on 40 fewer pass attempts, about a full game’s worth. For another thing, Cooter’s team is winning more. The MVP shouldn’t necessarily go to the best player on the best team, but all other things being equal, it’s better when these stats lead to wins. Right now, Yellowknife has won six in a row, and Bigsby’s been a big factor as to why these guys look like the class of the NSFC once again. 5. ![]() Best game: Week 1 vs. Yellowknife: 19/31, 255 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 84.7 rating, 13 attempts, 86 yards, 1 TD, Yellowknife's only loss so far Wolfie McDummy had a bad Friday. Had this article been written a day earlier, he’d probably be in first place. His Yeti were 5-0, and he was confounding defenses, both through the air and on the ground. But he just bombed both games, completing less than 50% of his passes in both games, and being effectively useless in the game against Orange County, where his only score was the garbagiest of garbage time scores. Even still, McDummy is putting up solid QB numbers and is still Colorado’s best running option. But he’ll need to wow me in order for him to justify his spot in the top-half dozen in the future, because he basically took the last two games off. 4. ![]() Best game: Week 3 vs. Honolulu: 15/25, 199 yards, 3 TDs, 0 INTs, 124.8 rating, hey that me How high can I get away with putting Dan Wright before it comes off as self-promotion? All jokes aside, Wright has finally, after all these years, got the pieces to come together. He has two elite receivers and a solid running game to take off the pressure, and the results are promising. Wright is leading the league in completion percentage, is second in passing touchdowns, and is comfortably the league leader in passer rating. All while throwing the fewest passes in the league. He’s not the focal point of the Sabercats offense, but he’s doing his job exceptionally well, and it’s resulting in the biggest feelgood story of the season. 3. ![]() Best game: Week 4 at Orange County: 8 receptions, 112 rec yards, 1 TD, Orange County's only loss so far So who is the focal point of the Sabercats offense? Probably this guy? Last year, DTF was just another promising wide receiver who barely topped 750 yards, and only scored three times. He’s more than doubled his touchdown total, and could match his yardage total by Week 8 this season. If nothing else, he should be the front-runner for Breakout Player of the Year, and probably WR of the Year, since he’s leading the league in both receptions and touchdowns. The rapport that Thomas-Fox and Wright have achieved this season is nothing short of stellar, and the only hang-up I have with Thomas-Fox is that they might eat into each other’s votes. 2: ![]() Best game: Week 3 vs. Arizona: 12 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 FF, those sacks and fumbles came on four separate plays Hear me out. This guy is a rookie who has just shown up from atop a misty mountain somewhere, and is putting the fear of God into opposing offenses. He gives me big Raymond Vans in his prime energy. I’ve been reviewing a lot of game logs for various articles I have planned or have already written, and this guy pops up all the time. Not only is he putting up monster stats, but those stats are coming in big moments. A momentum-killing pick with a long return against San Jose, several big deflections against Sarasota, and an absolute beatdown given to the Outlaws, where he led the team in tackles, got two sacks, and forced two fumbles. He’s easily Defensive Rookie of the Year, probably Defensive Player of the Year, and if he can keep this going, maybe MVP. 1: ![]() Best game: Week 7 vs. Colorado: 25/37, 326 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT, 110.9 rating, 7 attempts, 102 yards, 1 TD (66 yard TD, longest rushing TD by any player this season) Yeah, it’s this jerk again. Franklin Armstrong is looking for his record-breaking fourth straight MVP, and he isn’t blowing people away with any individual stat, besides maybe his rushing, he could be a legit flex RB in fantasy with those numbers. But he’s just doing nothing wrong right now. He’s fourth in yards, third in completion percentage, second in passer rating, and first in fewest interceptions, but most importantly, he’s doing big things in big moments, like a game winning touchdown in overtime against the Outlaws. You don’t need to look any further to see that Armstrong is still the league’s top dog then his massacre of the Yeti in Week 7, where he threw for more than 300 yards and three scores, and ran for another 100, including a 66 yard scamper. Some of the voters may be suffering from voter fatigue, but honestly, I don’t know of a more worthy candidate this year than Armstrong. This league may be his for a few more years to come. 1393 words . *NSFL MVP Rankings (Thru Week 7) - Opera_Phantom - 05-10-2020 I'll have you know that garbage time is the best time! *NSFL MVP Rankings (Thru Week 7) - Jay_Doctor - 05-10-2020 Doot Doot!! *NSFL MVP Rankings (Thru Week 7) - frithjofr - 05-10-2020 Just happy to be included, bud.
