*Week 11 NSFL Awards Update - mithrandir - 05-15-2020 In case you missed it, I wrote an article on Monday outlining my choices for the nominees and favorites for every NSFL award, which can be found here. This short piece updates my list of nominees. Returner of the Year: Nobody is winning a nomination with an excellent punt return game. Therefore the nominees are just the best kick returners. Owens has fallen off the ballot and Purchase has gotten his spot back. Nominees: HeHateMe Pick-Six Louisiana Purchase Mason Blaylock Rayne Gordon Forrest Gump Punter of the Year: Same nominees, new favorite, with Crisco pulling away from the field in average punt yards. Nominees: Venus Powers Alfredo Crisco ForThe Brand Lefty Louis Kicker of the Year: Banana and Brand both missed a 40-49 yd field goal this week but manage to stay on the ballot. Alex D still hasn't missed. Alex Dasistwirklichseinnachname Silver Banana ForThe Brand Venus Powers Matty McDairmid Cornerback of the Year: Rector and Lattimer are both up to five picks. Mervin Leonard has come out of nowhere with a couple picks including a pick six this week. Leonard takes Booker's spot on the ballot, despite 8 PDs for Booker in the last four games. Nominees: AJ Lattimer David Rector Mervin Leonard Rotticus Scott Zamir Kehla Safety of the Year: This is such a hard position to pick from. So many players are compiling great numbers. Ragnarok and Sexjoke fall off the ballot in favor of Mason Blaylock and Jamie Nkiah who joined the 2 sack, 2 int, 2 PD, and a TD club this week, joining Kirkby and Hughes. Hellzapoppin barely gets the fifth nomination over Matt Cross and Prince Vegeta. Nominees: Coverage safety: Johnny Hellzapoppin Thor Kirkby Quinn Hughes Jamie Nkiah Mason Blaylock Linebacker of the Year: Virtanen, Wilf, Berry, and Ugarth continue to dominate, while early-season phenom Howyanow has fallen off as of late. The nominees stay the same, but Howyanow is in danger of falling off. Nominees: Maurice Virtanen Galf Wilf Mo Berry Ugarth the Dissector Wayne Howyanow Defensive End of the Year: Hole-y Mole-y! Matt Hole had five tackles for loss in week 9 against Sarasota and has shot to the top of the TFL leaderboard. No change in nominees, but a sack or two from Simeon Works could put him on the map. Nominees: Lawrence Bass James Cho Matt Hole Dorfus Jimbo Jr ILove Gimmy Defensive Tackle of the Year: This is a three man race between Kroustis, Thumper, and Miller. Masters and Gronlie are hanging on to the last two spots. No change. Nominees: Bubba Thumper Giannis Kroustis Pete Miller Tristan Gronlie Shane Masters Offensive Lineman of the Year: Forty-Two is running away with it, and no change on the rest of the ballot. Rubbe gave up a sack this week. Laszlo Forty-Two Givussafare Rubbe Bruce Buckley Brave Ulysses Tight End of the Year: Still a two man race, and McCormick holds a slim lead over Phillips. Blocksdale is making a case for a fifth nominee. Nominees: Austin McCormick Jeffrey Phillips Jammerson Irving Heath Evans Avon Blocksdale Wide Receiver of the Year: Still a very clear top five in my opinion, but the favorites have changed. The Sabercat duo has fallen off somewhat, while Swift and Tidwell have been putting up monster numbers. Swift is the new favorite. Nominees: Saba Donut Nate Swift Action Jackson Deondre Thomas-Fox Rod Tidwell Running Back of the Year Award: Hanyadi is cruising on his way to a likely unanimous selection for this award. The rest are just fighting for nominations. I think Torensen sneaks onto the ballot, knocking Baby Yoda off. Darrell Williams might deserve a spot, but given NOLA's success, I give the spot to Toriki instead. Nominees: Mathias Hanyadi Forrest Gump Ryan Leaf Jr. Marcell Toriki Sam Torensen Quarterback of the Year: Not much has changed. The best are still the best. All five of these guys are having very good seasons. Nominees: Jay Cue Easton Cole Cooter Bigsby Franklin Armstrong Dan Wright Breakout Player of the Year: I still think these are the best options for this difficult to pick award. All are having much better seasons than last year. I think Wright is a unanimous pick. Nominees: WR Deondre Thomas-Fox QB Dan Wright LB Wayne Howyanow LB Galf Wilf CB David Rector Defensive Rookie of the Year: Matt Hole has usurped Lawrence Bass as the best DE and swipes his nomination as well. CB Rotticus Scott S Quinn Hughes LB Ugarth the Dissector DE Matt Hole CB Zamir Kehla Offensive Rookie of the Year: Julio Tirtawidjaja has turned it on as of late. He now leads all rookies in yards per carry and is second in rookie rushing yards. He's one of the lone bright spots for Chicago. He takes K?ne-Maika?i's spot. Nominees: OL Bruce Buckley TE Jeffrey Phillips RB Dax Frost RB Julio Tirtawidjaja RB Baby Yoda Offensive Performance of the Year: Easton Cole's week 10 performance was incredible. He had an even better passing performance than Cue in week 2. Nominees: Easton Cole Week 10 vs HON - 26/36, 405 YDS, 4 TD, 0 INT, 146.2 RT Franklin Armstrong Week 7 vs COL - 25/37, 326 YDS, 3 TD, 1 INT, 110.9 RT, 7 Rushes, 102 YDS, 1 TD Rando Cadrissian Week 2 vs ARI - 153 total yards, 3 rushing TD Defensive Performance of the Year: No change here. These three games very phenomenal. Nominees: David Rector Week 6 @SAR - 5 TCK, 6 PD, 3 INT Hamish McAndrew Week 7 @HON - 7 TCK, 3 PD, 3 INT Ugarth the Dissector Week 3 vs ARI - 12 TCK, 2 FF, 2 SCK Defensive Player of the Year: Virtanen leads the league in sacks and overtakes Howyanow for a DPOY nomination. Nominees: CB AJ Lattimer CB David Rector LB Ugarth the Dissector LB Maurice Virtanen LB Mo Berry Offensive Player of the Year: Nate Swift has had an excellent end to the season including a 3 TD game. He is now top 2 in both receiving yards and touchdowns, so he grabs the WR nomination spot on this list over Thomas-Fox. QB Dan Wright RB Mathias Hanyadi WR Nate Swift QB Franklin Armstrong RB Ryan Leaf Jr. Most Valuable Player: Thomas-Fox has slowed down a little, so I don't think he'll get nominated. This is pretty much a QB award, so I think Bigsby deserves a nomination, as he now leads the league in touchdown passes for the NSFC leading Wraiths. Nominees: QB Dan Wright RB Mathias Hanyadi QB Cooter Bigsby QB Franklin Armstrong LB Ugarth the Dissector *Week 11 NSFL Awards Update - Bigred1580 - 05-16-2020 Awesome write up!
