*How Cassius Brown Will Continue His Dad's Legacy - YoungTB - 05-16-2020
Cassius Brown, son of NSFL legend Marquise Brown, is looking to make a name for himself while also continuing his father’s legacy. “I’m more than just the son of my father. I’m Cassius Brown… I want to make a name for myself.” Marquise feels the same way and has pushed his son to do better. “Cassius is a special kid, but I want him to earn every single opportunity that comes his way. He doesn’t get any freebies just for being my son.”
We saw this dynamic up close and personal at Calabasas High School in California, Cassius’ alma mater. Marquise wasn’t in the stands at this game, he was on the sidelines. “Sloppy…” he’d often say to himself while watching Cassius play. He’d let him hear it often. “HEY BROWN! RUN A BETTER FUCKIN ROUTE!” He was right in saying that he wanted his son to earn every opportunity.
The same game, we saw Cassius score a 45-yard touchdown. Marquise was right in the middle of the many congratulations that were given to Cassius, dapping up his son. “ATTA BOY!” He yelled. We asked Cassius whether or not he ever got embarrassed by his father. In response, he simply nodded, with a grin across his face. Throughout the interview, we saw how truly close this father and son duo are to each other.
N60: “Marquise, Cassius, thank you for taking the time to sit down with us today.”
M: “Thank you for having us.”
C: “Appreciate it.”
N60: “So Cassius, how has your father helped you throughout your football career?”
C: “Dad always pushes me as hard as he possibly can. He even did this in pee wee. I think his work ethic is almost like a reminder to me that I can be as great as he was, even better.”
M: “Don’t push it.” He says with laughter.
C: “But yeah I mean… Dad taught me very young that no matter who my father is, I have to earn everything I get. It’s true that I’ve been blessed with so many incredible opportunities in life. But I’ve made them my own, not my father’s.”
N60: “Marquise, when you look at your son, what do you see?”
M: “I see a lot of things. He looks just like his mother, for one. But the thing that jumps out to me the most is… greatness. Cassius is a vastly different young man than I was at his age. I was… stupid, motivated by bad influences like money, women, stuff like that. Cassius is motivated to be the best, not only in football, but in everything he does. Academics, video games, board games, ya know? I admire that about him. He’s incredibly mature for his age.”
N60: “Cassius, what do you hope to achieve with your NSFL career?”
C: “I don’t want to be remembered as the son of Marquise Brown. I want to be remembered as Cassius Brown. I plan on doing that by making a name for myself and performing at 100% every time I get the opportunity."
N60: “Last week, you announced that you’d be going straight into the DSFL as a free agent, rather than going into the NCAA. What does the DSFL give you that the NCAA won’t?”
C: “Many things. In the DSFL, I’m able to play with the best of the best, guys that will eventually be in the NSFL. Some really talented players. I feel like my growth is hampered in the NCAA for multiple reasons, and I’m not able to market myself the same way that I’d like to in the DSFL.”
N60: “How long do you plan on staying in the DSFL?”
C: “I mean… as long as I need to be in there. I’m happy with being in there as long as my future NSFL team needs me to.”
N60: “Marquise, are you rooting for Cassius to be drafted by any team in particular?”
M: “Not at all. I mean… I’m sure you were expecting me to say Philly, right? In my eyes, Cassius will succeed anywhere he goes. But I know better than anyone that there’s only so much you can do as a player to win chips. My hope is that my son goes to a competent team with a great front office.”
N60: “So if Cassius gets drafted by an incompetent team in your eyes, would you push him to find a better opportunity in free agency?”
M: “I just want him to know his worth.”
C: “While my Dad will definitely be involved in my career, it will ultimately be up to me with that decision. I want to be loyal, but at the same time, my goal is to win in this league.”
N60: “Good to know. Finally, we knew Marquise as ‘Touchdown Brown’. Is there anything you want to go by in the big leagues?”
C: “Call me Cash.”
N60: “Cash Brown, that’s got a ring to it. Marquise, Cassius, thank you both for sitting down with us today.”

Marquise Brown was 21 in season 8 when he entered the DSFL... Cassius is now 21 entering season 22.... so Brown #1 had a kid at age 14. Well fellas, someone’s goin go jail!
