*S23 NSFL Mock Draft - Four Rounds - qWest - 05-17-2020 Hello there! Welcome to my S23 NSFL Mock Draft! This took a lot of work, gathering information, talking to people around the league, and getting to know this new class as best I can. Ever since I started preparing for my DSFL Mock Draft with this same class, I’ve been really impressed with everyone here. This class is a mix of really solid recreates and a number of exciting, energetic new players. The top earners in this class have gone absolutely crazy racking up TPE, but there are some serious gems that came in after the DSFL Draft, added to teams on waivers. I originally looked at potentially mocking out 6 rounds, but that quickly changed to 5, which came down to 4. These four rounds is where I see the bulk of the talent going in this draft. When you dip into the 5th round, there are a lot more risks and reaches, though there are certainly some players that’ll have great careers that have slipped off of these 4 rounds. I’m really excited to see how far this class can go! You’ll definitely note that this mock draft runs super defense heavy. Two big things drove this conclusion: The greater need for NSFL teams to acquire defensive players and the overwhelming surplus of offensive players. The number one biggest thing that I believe will change from this mock draft to the real one is that players, especially wide receivers, that communicate with NSFL teams with an openness or intent to change positions will rise quite a bit. I don’t want to necessarily encourage these players to switch positions; if you’re happy in your current position, that’s way more important than where you go in the draft. However, as it stands, the surplus of offensive players allows GMs to wait and take players at the more scarce positions early on. Special shoutouts to everyone who helped me get this out! @[ValorX77] helped talk with me and provide me with information about team needs, and @[Memento Mori]’s team needs article was another great resource in this area. A huge thank you to all of the DSFL GMs that got back to me after I pestered them about the different S23 players on their roster, their comments were a huge help to me trying to evaluate players and evaluate their activity and performance in their locker rooms. The last thing I should mention before we get in is my draft order. After taking into account Friday's results and looking at the final two games on everyone's schedules, I settled on this order for the final standings: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I didn't spend too much time on these standings predictions, these are just the most probable results I can see based on the remaining matches, so don't @ me for these. Without further ado, let’s get into it with a spicy first round trade. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Round 1 TRADE ALERT ![]() AZ 1.3 AUS 3.8 ![]() CHI 1.1 I could see several trades happening in this draft, but this is the one is the biggest no-brainer to me. Colorado has a lot of really strong players, with not that many inactives or players hitting regression. Look for the Yeti to move back as much as they can in this draft, potentially adding future picks in later trades. Arizona has a lot of young, active players starting to come up to a level where they can make noise in the NSFL. DB is the biggest hole really remaining in their roster, so trying to move up to take the premier safety and player of this draft is a move that I think could really help drive the Outlaws into contention as soon as possible. Austin essentially gave up their first, third, and fifth rounders last season to move up from 7 to 1 in a trade with Honolulu. Colorado is able to add a mid-rounder in the third to only move back two spots. 1.1. ![]() ![]() ![]() And so there it is. The iStegosauruz of S23, Syphreni’s crazy TPE earnings and content production earned them a crazy amount of stonks heading into the DSFL draft, and that has continued throughout the season. Greedy Sly helps give Arizona the best chance to compete in the NSFL right away, and will be a big part of the team coming into their primes. 1.2. ![]() While not the kind of content-creating monster that Sylphreni has been, Amidships has still been making a lot of noise as a great earner and a great person in the Dallas locker room. Being an excellent earner and excellent person at a perennial position of need in DT is a winning formula, one that will help push Montain into the 2OA spot. 1.3. ![]() ![]() The Yeti have largely been built around linebacker Mo Berry for the last several seasons. Alongside Berry, Colorado’s second linebacker Tony Gabagool is also coming up on their second year of regression. Grabbing a consistent max earner at linebacker is a must to succeed Mo Berry at the heart of their defense. 1.4. ![]() Philadelphia doesn’t have an active Defensive End on the roster, and Naosu has been another monster earner since joining after the S21 trade deadline. Son Goku can step into their roster day 1 to begin building up a young, active pass rush core to go along with their secondary haul in the S22 draft. 1.5. ![]() Honolulu has built their roster around a number of strong players that have been around the league for a long time. Ridiee matches that MO and Honolulu will hope that, with Tyrone Woods, they will bring their experience and earnings to the Pacific Islands to be a strong, versatile piece in their defense. 1.6. ![]() nickyvmlp is a San Jose lifer, and I expect them to be coming back home with their new player here. The Sabercats will need to spend their 2nd rounder on their GM’s new DE, and after that they don’t currently pick until the 4th round, at which point nicky would certainly be unavailable, so they will take him here in the 1st. 1.7. ![]() Another experienced user and another high-earning defensive linemen, Wheezer has the perfect formula for a first-round pick in this draft. LGMForever has been around the NSFL forever and Sarasota desperately needs to add startable talent on the defensive line for S23. 1.8. ![]() ![]() There are a few really strong DBs in this class, and Dookmarriot is up there in the top-3 of that group. notorioustig has been around sim leagues and has hit the ground running in the NSFL. Honolulu may have Buck Thornton and Shawn Dawkins coming up through the DSFL right now, but they could still really use another active DB and Dookmarriot is the next best in the class after Sly. 1.9. ![]() KenitohMenara may not be on most people’s lists as a first rounder, but they should be. Finding really great, positive people in this league is even more important than finding big TPE earners. Luckily, KenitohMenara is both. Though they joined the NSFL later than some of the other players at the top of this class, they are a sim league vet with a sterling recommendation from their DSFL GM’s and I don’t expect them to fall out of the first round. 1.10. ![]() ![]() Dallas has done a great job in their two seasons in the DSFL of bringing up super active and NSFL-ready players. Jmac, just like their teammate taken the pick before here, is another player that can bring a lot to an NSFL locker room. Sarasota already has two great young linebackers, but McCringleberry is a versatile and talented player that can be worked into the game plan and moved all over the field. 1.11. ![]() The Wraith’s could really use another safety to pair alongside S22 draftee Johnny Helzapoppin. Nhamlet has been a user that has been max-earning since joining and also creating additional media content. Smoothie looks to me like a player that can and will have a lasting impact on the team that they go to. Yellowknife picks up a MB safety in the first for the second season in a row. 1.12. ![]() Neither of Orange County’s current defensive ends have updated in the last month. Tycker Om is my favorite of the defensive line prospects remaining. Mysa has put up a couple of great media pieces, has experience in another sim league, has been an active voice in their LR, and has excellent recommendations from inside Tijuana. Round 2 2.1. ![]() Chicago needs to continue looking for players that can make an immediate impact as they continue to rebuild. Jadakiss is a high earner at a position of need and can step into the second safety spot for the Butchers right away. 2.2. ![]() Asylum has been around the NSFL for a while, but they really seem to be back with a vengeance now. Jumping in right away as the DSFL simmer and as a max-earner, they’ve definitely put themself on the map as someone that can take a player this distance this time around. Baltimore needs another linebacker to pair with de Ville, and Griffin Porter will help fill that role. 2.3. ![]() Arizona may already have 2 young max-earning linebackers, but I think they’ll try adding a third to help them be more versatile with their defensive playbook. WildfireMicro has been crazy active in the league since they joined and has put out a lot of enjoyable content. Eric Richards is definitely a player that I expect to go high. 2.4. ![]() Philadelphia spent a lot of draft capital to bolster their secondary last season, and they could still really use another strong cornerback. Jackson is the highest-earning cornerback in the draft at a position that is rather thin this season. 2.5. ![]() ![]() Even with Mendoza likely coming up from the DSFL this coming season, Austin should look to add another high-earning DB in this draft, and Perkins is the best available at this pick. Austin has to be careful of the dropoff in talent at defense after this pick. 2.6. ![]() ckroyal92 is one of SJ’s GMs, arriving just in time to replace Ennis on their DL. I doubt the Sabercats will be able to trade back from here, so they’ll be the first GM pick of the draft. 2.7. ![]() ![]() Defensive line is a position that is rapidly dropping off in this draft, and Arizona will be looking to get as deep as they can in positions of high demand. Though I expect that to be DL here, they could go in a million directions at this point. 2.8. ![]() ![]() Honolulu grabs their GM here. 2.9. ![]() ![]() Baltimore grabs their GM here. 2.10. ![]() New Orleans grabs their GM here. The GMs are finally gone. 2.11. ![]() ![]() Sarasota’s corners aren’t getting any younger. Lucas Knight and Jordan Andrews are sustainable for the next season or two, but they should start building up the future at that position now. Tomage has come over from the PBE and been a hit with Dallas since coming into the league. I think they could just be the best corner coming out of this class. 2.12. ![]() Similar to Mysa in my mind, Lesean has come into the league a little later than other top players in this class, but has put out a couple of good media pieces and made a really great impression on their team in the DSFL. OCO needs to get younger at the cornerback position to keep the dynasty chugging, and Crooks could be a big piece of that moving forward. Round 3 3.1. ![]() Chicago needs more pieces to build up their defense, and there is a sharp fall off after Karpaasi at this time. Finding active DL players isn’t always easy, and certainly puts the few in this draft in high demand. 3.2. ![]() ![]() It took all the way until the 26th overall pick in this mock for me to see an offensive player to go off the board. If the fact that every GM recreate went defense didn’t tell you this: defense is incredibly high demand. I think there’s a lot of justice and irony in seeing the first offensive player going here be an offensive lineman. The Yeti don’t currently have any OL players on the roster, and I could certainly see them taking this opportunity to take the top OLineman off the board, and an excellent user to boot as the BPA for them here. 3.3. ![]() The Outlaws are in a weird position in this draft, having only 2-3 holes in the roster and a billion picks in the draft. I could definitely see them taking the chance to strike on QB early, especially after trading Leafer to the Butchers as their QB of the future. Jay Cue is S18, and there is only one active QB in this draft. Lucky for Arizona, they have the capital to take an early shot on QB and the user behind that QB has an excellent history in the league. PDXBaller has the connections to Portland from before recreating too, a pipeline team for the Outlaws. 3.4. ![]() Though TubbyTim69 has now left the team and retired their S23 OL player, Philadelphia finds the perfect opportunity to follow Colorado in picking up one of the now two active offensive linemen in this draft class. By all accounts, Dick Thruster is an A+ person with an A+++ player name. Too bad he didn’t slip to 69OA. (Look for IA OL Dick Thunder to take that spot instead) 3.5. ![]() Though the floodgates may now be open on offensive players, Honolulu needs to continue building up their defense. The Hahalua take a second dip at linebacker to grab another versatile veteran player in xdave. Honolulu only has one solid linebacker on the roster, and adding two in this draft give them a lot of options on when and where on the field they slot these players in. Omar Wright Jr. has experience playing at DE and LB in Portland and could see similar use. 3.6. ![]() ![]() Yellowknife’s corners are very quickly aging, putting the fire to them to start building up a young replacement on the outside. Jason Young is the last corner I have highly rated on my board, and can start coming into their prime alongside the Wraith’s two young safeties. The Wraith’s would like to see themselves finding DL talent in this draft, but just don’t find the right players at the spots they draft in, so bolstering the secondary will have to be their compensation. 3.7. ![]() Sarasota has a huge hole on special teams: their kicker is an IA S18 player with 181 TPE. Datsum PhastBawls has a great name to go alongside great recommendations and comments from their teammates and GMs. Grabbing a kicker that can max out the important stats is incredibly valuable to teams building up field position and helping teams maximize the points they put on the board. 3.8. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Well, it’s finally the first Wide Receiver off the board. Colorado’s top two receivers are non-factors for the team moving forward. Even though they picked up S22 stud receiver William Lim, putting as many excellent targets in front of Wolfie McDummy before he ages out will be important to Colorado’s future success. They get the pick of this stacked class here at the 32nd overall and get to take the top earner here. DarknessRising is one of the amazing new users in this wide receiver class and has been able to outpace the others thus far. 3.9. ![]() ![]() After retiring and seeing Leaf Jr. traded to Austin, Valor has been able to spend this season getting to know the Copperheads’ GMs and they’ve gotten the chance to see how good of a user Valor is. Taking Valor with their third gives them the flexibility to use Videl-San at wide receiver, or potentially work with Valor on a potential position switch (something I know Valor has been fairly open to). 3.10. ![]() Blaster is an old-school NSFL user, finding his first player go 2nd overall in the S2 NSFL Draft. They came into this season after the DSFL draft and have had a lot of ground to try to make up between them and the rest of this excellent class. Still, it may be hard to see a user with this much history in the league go under GMs noses this long. New Orleans would be happy to see Blade fall to them here as Quenton Bode hits their second season of regression. 3.11. ![]() Nate Swift is an S13 player, and likely won’t be playable after this next season if they stay. Yellowknife has the opportunity here to grab a top-tier wide receiver and another classic user in the NSFL (there’s been a lot of great recreates coming into this class). Bringing enig into the fold will help them start building up talent around upcoming S22 GM recreate QB Colby Jack. 3.12. ![]() ![]() Baby Yoda has done an excellent job of stepping in as the workhorse back for Arizona this season, but they’re probably getting pretty lonely in the backfield. Arizona has the perfect chance here to take the top RB off the board in Nicholas Ayers. Faded is a great person, evident here by the fact that I didn’t leave them off this mock draft purely off of the reason that their Discord pfp makes me want to punch myself in the face. Please Faded, please change it. Also good luck in the NSFL. Round 4 4.1. ![]() ![]() Keyg_an is a GM in the SHL, valuable experience to NSFL GMs evaluating players. Though they’ve started behind many in this class they bring a valuable presence to Austin, whose best linebacker will start hitting regression in S24. 4.2. ![]() Honestly Baltimore has a really well-built roster. The roster is young, and seeing Chika Fujiwara thrust into the starting role early has lead the team to going into a short rebuild period. Their current kicker has been around the league for some time, but they’re S16 and they haven’t posted on the site or updated in over a month. Baltimore has the chance here to take a really great active user at this position. 4.3. ![]() BOO-YAH BABY, WE GOT A RUN ON KICKERS! For real though, Jay-Jamison also hasn’t updated in the last month and hasn’t put a lot of TPE on their player. Arizona takes another shot here to try and upgrade the position. 4.4. ![]() The BPA for Liberty here is to grab an eventual replacement to Sam Torenson. Fuzzy Dotson has been slowly building up TPE themselves, but they’ll be hitting regression themself when Torenson retires. Grabbing the speedy boi Jo3fish5 here allows them to send them back down to the DSFL for a season or two, bringing them back in time to take over the lead role. 4.5. ![]() All three of the receivers on Honolulu’s roster are active but, outside of S22’s William Alexander, they haven’t earned at a terribly high rate over their careers. Tylus is an amazing user since they jumped back into the league, they’re a total steal at this spot. 4.6. ![]() Action Jackson and Deondre Thomas-Fox have been doing a great job this season, but San Jose could really use a young receiver to come up with Monty Jack. Daybe is a great returning user with a lot of knowledge on the league. 4.7. ![]() ![]() The Butchers still have Sean O’Leary going strong, but with young QB George O’Donnell coming in, they need as many weapons as possible for their offense. Confictional is the top earning receiver at this point in the draft. 4.8. ![]() ![]() Farley Hank may be playable for another season and Julio Tirtawidjaja has been doing really well for them, but Chicago has the opportunity to grab another great running back to the backfield. DanE has been doing really well building up their earnings while in London. 4.9. ![]() The Yeti need to find an heir to Ashley Owens in their offense before too long, since Owens will hit regression in S24. PSanchez’s previous player spent a great deal of time with the Yeti and would surely be excited to come back to the team here. 4.10. ![]() JSS has created as a running back a few times and doesn’t seem to have found much success thus far, which could scare some teams off. They seem to be earning at a high rate thus far, and New Orleans needs to take a shot at a replacement for Forrest Gump in their patent two-headed monster. 4.11. ![]() As I mentioned earlier, Yellowknife would really like to pick up DL talent in this draft. Though Gamaliel has fallen on and off the wagon in updates a few times thus far, they are still active, with a new update coming in this weekend, and I really enjoyed their early media. Hopefully coming up the NSFL can be a renaissance for Joe Exotic, and the Wraiths should look to take a chance on them here. 4.12. ![]() As much as I’d like to keep the OCO backfield all to myself once I’ve eliminated Ludicolo Bigby from the picture, it may be smart for the Otters to find another active RB to pair up with Tatsu Nakamura. Armstrong’s seasons are numbered, and they’ll need strong offensive pieces to keep the train rolling. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Okay, now I'm super tired.
