*Why DTF is WRoty - AW13 - 05-22-2020 So, this will be pretty short but hopefully stat packed and can help influence the voters a bit when it comes to the best wide receiver this season in the NSFL because the race is very close. I could see Swift and Tidwell along with Donut at a lesser extent all receiving some votes but should be for 2nd and 3rd place. Deondre Thomas-Fox was THE premier wide receiver of the NSFL this season and helped elevate the game of his entire team. DTF was a huge chunk of the reason San Jose had a passing offense for the first time in many seasons. Let's look at the numbers! Receptions (Reception Percentage - Percentage of receptions from QB's total completions): Deondre Thomas-Fox: 71 receptions (32.13%) Saba Donut: 71 receptions (23.89%) Nate Swift: 67 receptions (26.59%) Rod Tidwell: 57 receptions (22.27%) Okay, from here I look at overall contribution to an offense in terms of getting the ball and be in a position to make plays for their team. Thomas-Fox has a whopping 32% of his team's completions meaning he was the guy entrusted to make plays. Donut and Tidwell were not as utilized and in the case of Donut, he was simply a pawn in the league's highest passing offense. Swift had a lot of receptions but consider this, Yellowknife threw nearly 100 more times than San Jose did and Bigsby had 31 more completions than Wright. With 31 more completions, DTF at the same pace would have around 80 catches on the season projected. So far just based on this: 1. Thomas-Fox 2. Swift 3. Tidwell 4. Donut Receiving yards (Percentage of total team's yards through the air) Thomas-Fox: 1022 yards (38.29%) Swift: 1065 yards (33.15%) Donut: 1191 (34.73%) Tidwell: 1036 (31.46%) So, it is interesting to look at here because Thomas-Fox clearly has a disadvantage due to his lower receiving yardage out of all of these here. However, if you look deeper, Thomas-Fox had the highest percentage of his team's receiving yards. His total yard production had a hit from being on the least pass happy offense of these 4 but he had more of an impact in the overall game. Donut, being on the highest passing offense comes in at 2nd here in receiving yard percentage and leads the league in total receiving yards, with the percentage number being more impressive to me. Swift and Tidwell round us down but they had a less overall effect on their team's passing offense than both Donut and Thomas-Fox. Updated: 1. Thomas-Fox (-) 2. Swift (-) 3. Donut (+1) 4. Tidwell (-1) Touchdowns (Percentage of team's passing touchdowns) Thomas-Fox: 11 TDs (52.38%) Swift: 11 TDs (37.93%) Donut: 5 TDs (33.33%) Tidwell: 11 TDs (42.31%) This one on first glance is wow, there are 3 receivers with 11 touchdowns, how would you even differentiate these! Based on overall contribution to a team's passing offense of course! Thomas-Fox had over 50 percent of his team's passing touchdowns! When the team needed a big play, they went to Deondre. Donut surprisingly was on the team with the highest passing offense by yards but they only had 15 touchdowns total passing and while he still grabbed 33% of his team's TDs, he was not a red-zone threat at all. Tidwell is our 2nd best red-zone threat here and Swift comes in 3rd and his 11 TDs were a product from the league's number one passing touchdown offense not to mention the league's top scoring offense on the ground as well. Case and point, Swift is not a difference maker. Updated rankings: 1. Thomas-Fox (-) 2. Swift (-) 3. Tidwell (+1) 4. Donut (-1) Total yardage (Kick Return Yards + Receiving Yards) Thomas-Fox: 1620 Total Yards (1022 Receiving Yards, 598 Return Yards) Swift: 1248 Total Yards (1065 Receiving Yards, 183 Return Yards) Donut: 1885 Total Yards (1191 Receiving Yards, 694 Return Yards) Tidwell: 1036 Total Yards (1036 Receiving Yards, 0 Return Yards) This one is last because it has the smallest impact to me in terms of the WR of the Year race. I do believe that it matters though and we see DTF come in 2nd here as he also heavily impacts the kick return game. Donut leads here as he led the league in receiving yards and has the highest amount of return yards amongst the group. I don't believe this does anything to affect where the race currently was but I think it is good to include to put the icing on the cake for Deondre Thomas-Fox being the clear wide receiver of the year. Final rankings: 1. Thomas-Fox 2. Swift 3. Tidwell 4. Donut *Why DTF is WRoty - HalfEatenOnionBagel - 05-22-2020 Don't include return yards in this conversation smh Regardless these metrics, which are similar to NFL dominator rating, make strong case for DTF who I think a lot of people are already high on for the award. *Why DTF is WRoty - SDCore - 05-22-2020 I too could cherry pick stats that make the case for Tidwell, but ya cool. Adding in Return yards in your claim. Laughable. *Why DTF is WRoty - Bigred1580 - 05-22-2020 I think I deserve it, but I’ll just let my stats do the talking. If not, always the bridesmaid, never the bride and whatnot. Best of luck to the other candidates! *Why DTF is WRoty - AW13 - 05-22-2020 (05-22-2020, 01:21 PM)SDCore Wrote:I too could cherry pick stats that make the case for Tidwell, but ya cool. Best of luck to the other candidates!was a great season by Swift for sure! *Why DTF is WRoty - CDub2 - 05-22-2020 This may be a bit homer sounding but O’Leary should absolutely be Top 3 for WRoTY. He’s a handful of yards behind the top 4 and played 5 games with a 50 TPE QB? The fact that he broke 1K yards is one of the greatest achievements in league history *Why DTF is WRoty - Mooty99 - 05-23-2020 WRotY should be Tidwell's for sure, 2nd most total receiving yards (29 less than Swift 14 more than DTF) same number of TDs than both and all that from less touch. You seemed to have missed average receiving yards? Certainly because Tidwell's is 18.2, Swift is 15 9 and DTF is 14.4. Enjoy 3rd place that that is where you should be. *Why DTF is WRoty - MrStennett - 05-23-2020 I summarily disagree. Why? Because @`AndrewWarren13` bad. |
