S22 is in the books. Time to take a look back at the season and recognize some of last season's top performers. I also want to go over my hypothetical rules summit.

As far as the Awards go, All the picks are based on the index. Stats, team performance, and my own personal bias are the criteria. For consistency, Players are categorized by their index position not necessarily the position they played. I agree the best practice is to categorize players but the position they actually played, but I have no easy way of looking that information without digging through the actual file which doesn’t agree with my comp.

Most Valuable Player
QB - Cooter Bigsby YKW 3212 Yds 29 TD 8 Int 93.6 Rtg

Ther veteran Wraiths QB put up one of his best seasons to date. Bigsby set a career-high in QB rating, leading the lead with a mark of 93.6. He also threw the least amount of interceptions in his career with 8 The continued dominance of the NSFC by the Wraiths propels him to MVP. Bigby is a legend in this league even though he does he overshadowed by his contemporaries. He is an Ultimus win away from a Hall of Fame resume.

Offensive Player of the Year
Mathias Hanyadi YKW 1161 Yds 8 TD 41 Rec 440 Yds 4 TD

The Wraiths had the best QB/RB duo in the league this past season. Hanyadi did it all for the Wraiths, continuing to show his versatility through the air as well as the ground. Hanyadi 4 year run has been utterly dominant. Much like his teammate, Bigbsy, an Ultimus is the only thing left for him to achieve. He will be a Hall of Famer regardless.

Defensive Player of the Year
Mo Berry COL 113 Tcks 1 FF 11 Scks 3 Int 14 PD

What is there to even say about Mo Berry. The numbers speak for themselves. He is a general on the field and contributes in every single facet of the defense; Coverage, pressure, run-stopping, and leadership. Leading the top-rated defense to an Ultimus win was the cherry on top of a great season for Berry

Offensive Rookie of the Year
Dax Frost SAR 1097 Yds 3.8 YPC 6 TDs

Frost may be a surprise pick for ORotY for some, but when you look at his season you have to take a few things into account. Prior to the Rose Jenkins Trade, The Sailfish had a mediocre at best passing attack due to the limitations of their QB. Every defense was keying in on Frost. Frost was also one of the few backs in this league that did not operate in a committee.

Defensive Rookie of the Year
Zamir Kehla ARI 4 Int 12 PD 2 TD 85 Tcks 2 TFL

The controversial cornerback had the best season of any rookie this year. Two defensive touchdowns to go with four interceptions, and 85 tackles is a very impressive rookie season. For all his talk, he has backed it up and then some. Kelha stood out in the DSFL last season and has continued to have the same success out of the gate in the NSFL. As much as some will hate to see it, the sky is the limit for Kehla's career.

Most Valuable Player
Sim SnowBow QB GreyDucks 2538 Yds 18 Tds 11 Int 77.2 Rtg

Snowblow flew under the radar the last season as he split snaps with Zach Zega. He made his impact known right away when he became the full-time starter. Snowbow led the DSFL in yards and touchdowns and carried the Greyducks to a 1st place finish in the NFC. Sim Snowbow was the best QB in the DSFL.

Offensive Player of the Year
Andrew Nova RB Coyotes 1410 Yds 5.3 YPC 9 TD

Nova was a force for the Coyotes. Nova led the league in YPC, finished 3rd with touchdowns with 9, and tied for second in rushing yards.

Defensive Player of the Year
Bubba Thronton S Greyducks 72 Tcks 2 TFL 1 FF 8 Sacks 3 Int 6 PD 2 TD

Thornton tackle numbers don't jump off the page, but when you look at how many different ways he contributed on defense, He is the clear choice for Defensive Player of the Year. 2 Defensive touchdowns, 3 interceptions, and 8 sacks highlight one of the more versatile safeties in the DSFL. I am excited to see what he will be able to do at the next level.

Rules Summit

1. Awards

There is a need for clear criteria on how awards are voted on. TEs that play WR, DE at DT. Clarification and consistency on how these different situations are handled will allow the awards committee to not take as much heat every offseason. DL needs to be separated into its own respective positions, and there needs to be consistency in how players how are playing out of position are voted on.

I would also propose to remove the conference aspect of the Pro Bowl. The best players should make the pro bowl regardless of what conference they play in.

Lastly, Awards voting needs to be its own position. I can attest that digging through the index, takes time, and is a pain in the butt. Lete GM's GM and lean on the great user base to vote on the awards. Pay the right people and they will make the right choices.

2. Free Agency

Teams will have exclusive rights to negotiate an extension with a pending free agent through the trade deadline of their contract year. After the trade deadline, pending free agents enter the legal tampering phase and can negotiate/agree to deals in principal. Deals cannot be announced before the start of free agency. Deals are not official till posted and signed.

Players have very little power in free agency in this league. While many people will accept minimum deals, there needs to be an avenue for players to explore "max contracts". The above change will allow players to be courted by teams as well as be invited to locker rooms so they can see what the team dynamic is first hand before making their decision.

Agents also need more flexibility to operate. I think being an agent should be a fun way to take a step back from the league, but still, be involved and make a little money. People have varying levels of time to put into the league and with the log jam that is being created at some positions, the more fulling ways to play that can be added the better.

3. HO punishments

I would propose a rule that adds the capacity for HO to issue "official warnings" at their discretion. There are many times that there is something that needs to be addressed but not necessarily punished. In these instances, HO can address the situation with an official warning, with the caveat that if the behavior is exhibited again that the punishment will be harsh. This allows HO to gain some goodwill with a lenient punishment and also allows them to issue severe enough penalties to be a deterrent.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this. If you have any feedback I encourage you to let me know. I want to get better at my selections, so please let me know where I messed up.

Edit: Now with Special Teams

I think this is a really good idea but there is potential for it to be worked over. A team could tell a perspective FA to stop earning to screw over the current team for example.

FA absolutely needs an upgrade at some kind.
