*Interview with Eric Richards - TheCC - 06-08-2020 Hey everyone! Today I'm bringing you guys an interview with one of the Chicago Butchers brand new rookies from the S23 NSFL draft - Eric Richards. He may not have gone as early in the draft as he had originally wanted, but we're hoping that this turns out to be the place that he wants to be for the foreseeable future. After signing CB Tyler Oles Jr. in free agency and acquiring LB Hingle McCringleberry and LB Eric Richards through the draft, the Butchers now have an active player at every single position on defense. That is absolutely insane! Okay, time for us to get to know our new linebacker and new defensive star - Eric Richards. Question: Which team did you think was going to draft you? Why? Answer: I honestly didn't know who was going to draft me. I had a feeling it was going to be the Arizona Outlaws due to their LBs getting up there in age, but somewhat surprisingly it wasn't. I still don't know why they passed me up, though they didn't scout me so maybe that's the reason honestly. Yeah, I guess most of us have no idea who's going to draft us, haha. I'm guessing that the top guys are the only ones that actually know where they're going to wind up. Well, them and the general managers who are drafting themselves. It seems strange to me that the Arizona Outlaws, a team with a need at linebacker, wouldn't even try to scout the DSFL linebacker of the year. I guess they had other plans in mind. Oh well, I'm glad they didn't end up taking you, because then we wouldn't have ended up with you! The Chicago Butchers may well end up with the steal of the draft in the S22 Draft and the S23 Draft. Question: Did you have a specific team that you wanted to be drafted by? Answer: Honestly no. I was gonna play hard no matter where I went, so anywhere was fine with me. I feel like it is a good mindset to have when you are being drafted unless there is a team you can't stand I guess. I was in the S22 NSFL Draft, and I had the same mindset as you. I didn't care what team took me. I just knew that I wanted to make their pick worth it. I'm glad that you have the same philosophy. That shows that you're probably a hard worker. I mean, you agreed to do this interview to make some money, so that proves it, I think. Hopefully we can help hold down this defense for years to come. Question: Somehow, you slid all the way down to the 4th round, where the Chicago Butchers had the pleasure of taking you. How do you feel about that? What round were you expecting to go in? Why do you think you fell? Answer: I honestly don't really like it, then again no one likes it when you fall in the draft when you thought you were gonna go higher. I thought I would be gone before the 3rd round or at least in the 3rd round. Maybe a lot of teams don't really need a Linebacker, but still I am very surprised that I fell as far as I did. I don't blame you. I've only been around the league since S21, and really only paid attention this season, but it doesn't really make sense to me how some teams decide which guys go higher than others. An example besides you that I can think of is Minnesota Grey Duck safety Buck Thornton in last year's NSFL draft. He was a max earner, I think he bought equipment, he was active on Discord, and he won DSFL Defensive Back of the Year. Then he wasn't taken until the 3rd round, if I'm remembering correctly. I guess that I just don't know what all goes in to deciding which player to take. Getting you in the 4th round already seems like a steal to me, and I've heard people on our team and on other teams telling me how great of a pick it was to grab you in the 4th. If you keep up the great work and decide to recreate someday (hopefully a long time from now), I'm sure you'll go even earlier. At least you weren't an 11th round pick, like a certain bum that I know of on the Chicago Butchers named Tyron Shields… ![]() Question: Have you found out if you're getting the call up to the NSFL yet? How do you feel about that? Answer: I have heard that I am moving up, and I am extremely ecstatic to show off what I can do. That's exciting! I had a feeling you would be coming up, so it's cool to hear that it's mostly official. I'm sure you're going to tear up the NSFL. We may have some growing pains, since it's both of our first seasons in the big leagues, but I think we'll get everything figured out sooner rather than later. We have some great guys in Chicago to show us the ropes, so that will be a great asset, I think. I'm ready to get to work and show everybody the new Chicago! We need to put the league on notice, and let them know that their time making Chicago the butt of the joke is limited. Question: Leaving your DSFL team can be hard sometimes. Is there anything you would like to say to your former teammates? Answer: My final words to the Royals is Thank You. Thank you for being so good to me and being such a good gang of brothers. I will always remember that. Thanks for the ride. Some sweet words for his former team. DSFL teams can be like a weird little family sometimes, so it can be a little bittersweet moving on to the big leagues. Hopefully you can stay in touch with them and maintain those friendships that you made. You guys definitely had a fun season, I'm sure, taking down me and the Grey Ducks in an upset in the playoffs, hahah. Question: Is there anything you'd like to say to your new Butchers teammates or GMs? Answer: I am ready to prove myself to you all and to prove what a steal I am. I am definitely happy to be chosen by you all, and I am definitely all in for the season and I am position switching for you all so you know I am serious. Oh wow, that's exciting. I had no idea that you were switching positions. That definitely shows that you're a team player, which makes me even more excited to have you on the team. I was an extremely late pick and even I didn't really want to switch positions, haha. I think most, if not all, of us already think that you were a steal, so rather than proving it to us, I think you'll end up having to live up to it instead, hahah. Question: You've been given the opportunity to build your very own candy bar from the ground up. Describe it to me! Answer: First off it would have rich caramel in it, with some almonds. Then it would be all wrapped up in delectable dark chocolate. Man that's getting me hungry for chocolate now, hopefully I can have some brownies later. I'll be honest, I've asked this question several times. It's one of my favorite questions to ask in interviews. With that being said, I honestly think that this may just be one of the best candy bar creations I've gotten in an answer. I think this would taste amazing. I feel like something like this has to exist already, but nothing is coming to mind. If it doesn't exist, you might be on to something here. I will only request a 40% stake in this candy bar's profits, since I was the one that spurred this creation. You are my teammate now, so you know that I'm giving you a good rate. Well that brings us to the end of the interview. Thank you to everyone who read all of this, and thank you to Eric Richards for doing this with me. I offered up interviews to any rookies that wanted to grab some extra money for training or equipment, and Eric was the first one to message me and ask me to do it. That shows real initiative, and makes me excited to see how your career turns out. Hopefully some other rookies will want to jump in here and do this as well! I hope we have a fun season this year, while we get ready to take the league by storm once we're ready. The rest of the league won't be ready, though, I'm sure of that. It's going to be a fun ride. Let's go get to work! Please split this 25% for me, and 75% for Eric Richards. *Interview with Eric Richards - WildfireMicro - 06-08-2020 Thanks for the interview! |
