*Daria Guava-Fresca's Morning Routine - SchwarzNarr - 06-08-2020

Hey guys, what’s up! It’s ya girl Daria Guava-Fresca here, and I’m about to hit you up with the greatest morning routine ever.

Now, you might not know this about me, but I have been doing ballet for years. My mom couldn’t have been more thrilled to have a little girl and since I could walk I was in ballet slippers and tutus. My dad, on the other hand, was devastated that he wouldn’t have his little football bro, so he ignored me for some time. Once he realized the flexibility and strength that I had from ballet, however, it made it a different story. I was on the field during the homecoming game and at half-time on the homecoming court.

Since I was always trying to balance my football and ballet sides, I figured I’d let you all in with a sneak peek of my daily routine, especially when I’m getting ready for practice.

Ya gotta wake up early, about 5 am every day. Start with a good number of stretches, especially to loosen your hips, hamstrings, and calves. Ballerinas and kickers both need excellent leg strength and control. The key here, though, isn’t just to stretch and hold. Static stretching isn’t good for your body, and man, you have got to love yourself. Instead, you want to make sure that you’re getting your heart rate up a little bit, and using those muscles that you want to work. Sometimes these stretches might be a few moves from my ballet days, other days it might be some yoga. (If you’re new to Yoga, I really recommend this video

After you’re good and warmed up, you’ve moved your body a little bit, it’s time for a good 30 minute run. Sometimes I’ll hit a 5k, and other days I might take it easier or push myself. It all depends upon what else is in store. After a nice warm up run, I throw grits into the pressure cooker (I use this recipe here and hop into the shower.

I use the Burt’s Bees Soap, Shampoo and Conditioner. It’s great for my skin, sulfate free and it smells amazing. Be warned, however, that if you then choose to spend time in nature, the bugs will love you because you will smell AMAZING. After I hope out of the shower, I like to do a simple moisturizer with some spf on my face (you need that sun protection, y’all), and then pop on a bit of 2-in1 foundation and cover up. A little blush to even it out, and depending upon what is on the agenda for the day changes whether I add some mascara and eyeliner.

By this time, the grits are done, you can fry up an egg (or 3) and have yourself a nice breakfast. Sure it’s not always filling enough, especially when you burn as many calories as I do, but before you move to your real meals for the day, I find you should always start with a hearty bowl of grits, especially before football practice.
