Maybe as someone newer to the league I just don't have the kind of perspective to see and understand the position you both expressed. I must say that it was disheartening to hear a commissioner of the league say that if we don't like the state of the rules around tampering that we should leave and go to another league. I still want to read these comments generously though, and I would like to hear more about both of your perspectives on why we need rules on tampering and why we need to have a system that deals out hefty penalties for comments made by players like retrospace (I know some think this punishment may have been too lenient for the infraction, I mean only to say that the punishment is fairly harsh [in my perspective] in the abstract). My point of view at this time is that so much of a player's experience in the NSFL is dictated by their teams, teams that they have no real control over deciding for the first two seasons at the very least. I would very much like the ability to talk to people in other teams more freely about their own teams, to get a better perspective on all of the fractured communities inside the NSFL, and to talk with others about the decisions that they would like to make on their journey through the NSFL. I guess think of it very much like employees at the same company not being able to talk with a co-worker about their paycheck or about their workload or anything about the different experiences they might be having and any opportunities for an individual to explore a better opportunity for themselves. I hope that makes sense and explains why I currently am in favor of changing the current rules around and enforcement for tampering.

Ok I am going to start by saying you seriously misunderstood what I meant. At no point was I suggesting anyone up and leave this league. My suggestion was to join SCFSL in addition to this league, as that will show clearly why widespread tampering would be horrible for our league. It works for the SCFSL because at its heart that’s a super casual league. But it is a popularity contest of a league. If you join that league and still think we should have legal tampering here you’re either very popular and think you could get a lot of people to join your team, or you simply haven’t experienced the level of tampering that happens yet. To that effect, my reasoning for why we have tampering rules is that we need black and white rules to prevent widespread tampering and to stop the league from becoming a popularity contest.

To your second point, you should be able to get an idea of every team through scouting in your first two seasons, and there is little to nothing preventing you from talking about teams with your friends. The only line in the sand is don’t say “leave your team” or “join this team”. In my 15+ months in the league I have regularly talked to people about their experiences and have never tampered anyone, so I’d need to hear more about what you feel you can’t openly discuss. My PMs are open if you want to talk further about that.

Like I said, I was reserving any kind of real emotion or reaction to that statement to make sure there was a chance I was getting the wrong signal, or at least that what my immediate reaction was was not from something intentional. I still think that the statement made could've been phrased much better, but hey, I'm like the king of stating things in a way that gets misread. I understand and appreciate more now what you were trying to say. Thank you for the response!
