*NSFL & DSFL Branding Tier List - retrospace111 - 07-08-2020

Hi, Zamir here. No controversial media here, or maybe it is. You might be thinking "No way he can take shots in a logo tier list right?". Well think again. I'm going to be basically giving each team's branding a rating out of 10, yes decimal points too. Then I'll just be ranking all of them, DSFL and NSFL together. There are some pretty shit logos, so I'll definitely be calling them out. Just writing this for some quick cash cause double media. Might pump out another article trashing every CB taken before me in the S22 draft. Stay tuned.

DSFL

London Royals
Amazing logo, cool colors. They were a lot like the Pythons, which is quite unfortunate. Black and yellow are cool colors. This is more like Grey and Gold, but still similar enough that Portland GMs wanted to change the color of the logo. The "Royal", which is basically a lion, looks sick. I love the logo, but I don't know about the word London being on the side. It would have been much better on the top, or on the bottom. Putting it on the side is just weird and I don't want to twist my neck to get the full experience of the logo.

Tijuana Luchadores
Very unique logo, the big boy in the middle is quite intimidating, but the details get lost when the image is sized down. Good color scheme. Green and red is quite a unique thing, you don't see that combination quite often. I do feel like those are good colors for that team though, so kudos to whoever created that logo. The Tijuana is literally not visible to see with a smaller logo. The Luchadores is, so that's good. It's one of the few logos where the words are actually visible.

Portland Pythons

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Python for life, but I kinda liked the old logo. The black and yellow was so amazing and we could play Black and Yellow by wiz Khalifa and have it relate to us. I loved the sigs that qWest made for me with the black and yellow colors. Looking quite intimidating. Unfortunately, the Royals had to steal our color. Good going Franch. The green, orange and white is a unique color combination, but it’s just not as cool as the black and yellow we had before. Critics would say that the old Pythons logo looked too much like the Copperheads, but we were here first, so fuck off. I’ll be criticizing the Copperheads’ logo when we get to that, but let me tell you, it’s not looking good for them.

Norfolk Seawolves

Almost skipped over this team, oops. Norfolk has a cool idea, with the submarine thing, and I think they aced the logo design. The waves and design are sick and all black submarines look clean af. Amazing job. The colors do seem a bit off though, as if they are missing something. The blue doesn’t go well with the black, in my opinion. A lighter shade of blue, or an all black logo would look dope.

Minnesota Grey Ducks

A duck? Seriously? Who thought this was a good idea? Duck? Come on man. It’s literally a duck. Buccaneers, Pythons, Coyotes, Lions, Wrestlers, War Submarines, Hunting dog, and then you just have a duck. Seriously? Not very intimidating compared to the others. A birddog isn’t really either, but at least it’s not a fucking duck. Fortunately, whoever designed the logo saved the team, because the colors are actually sick. The duck looks good in the logo too. If they had a good mascot, this logo could have easily been the best out of every single team. But a duck?

Dallas Birddogs

Ok cool, a birddog? I mean, there’s no bird at all in this logo. Could have just called it the Dalas Dogs. The alliteration would have been nice. When I search birddogs, I get a clothing company. Maybe your mascot should have been a pair of shorts. It would have been more intimidating than whatever you have right now. The colors are drab and boring. Boring, get me something bright and stands out.

Kansas City Coyotes

Finally, a good logo. KCC and SJS have a lot of similarities. First off, they both have big cats as their mascot. Second, a lot of KCC players go to SJS because of the GMs being in KCC and such. It’s another pipeline, just like Norfolk to NOLA and Portland to ‘Zona. I hate KCC a lot, just like I hate SJS. They destroyed my Ultimini dreams and I can never forgive them for that. But they have their branding on point. The colors are so nice, the cat looks fierce, everything is vibrant and pops out. SJS, on the other hand, completely butchered theirs. We’ll get to that in a moment. The purple is a beautiful color, and the gold goes surprisingly well with it. They could have used gold in place of the white, and I think that would look sick. Good job.

Myrtle Beach Buccaneers

When I first saw the Buccaneers, I was amazed by the logo. It looked so intimidating. Unfortunately, the colors ruin it. This logo would look so dope with a black and white scheme, or even a black and gold, or some dark colors. The pink and green does kind of go well, but I think they could have gotten a perfect 10 from me if they did better colors. Seriously, consider changing the colors.

Philadelphia Liberty

Props to the team for not creating an exact Patriot’s logo color scheme. The golden bell is an amazing touch, and quite unique. I love that shade of color, and it meshes pretty well with the faded red and blue. Looks quite American, but not too much like the Patriots. The colors aren’t as intense as the Patriots’ colors, so it looks quite different. Good job on branding, Philly. The only problem is, a bell? Really? A bell?

San Jose SaberCats

Ah, the team you’ve all been waiting for me to review. My favorite team, the San Jose SaberCats. First of all, we already have a problem with their name. SaberCats? Why is the C capitalized. It should be Sabercats. Also, whoever did this logo did a good job with putting the S and J in there. BUT YOU MISSED THE LAST S. It’s so obvious to put the S there, and it would fill up that circle. Now it looks like it’s half done, and you only have SJ. It’s the most obvious thing you could do to make this logo look better, and you butchered it. And for those who say “Oh, the S would have been covered”, well the J is too. Oh shoot, I just remembered. YOU GUYS COPIED YOUR BRANDING FROM AN ARENA FOOTBALL TEAM. You aren’t even original in the branding. Why? Why did you copy them? Come on, it’s not an original logo. Complete trash, just like your team.

Sarasota Sailfish

Beautiful colors, beautiful logo. Honestly the color placement is amazing. They made a sailfish looks intimidating. How do you do that? Some teams can’t even make a dog look intimidating. You can definitely tell RD and Frost had a hand in branding. They brought over the bright color scheme from MBB and made a pretty top tier logo.

Yellowknife Wraiths

What a cool logo. The wraiths are a dope mascot. Honestly just an amazing branding. The black and white color scheme is perfect for the logo and the blue in the eyes is a lovely addition, giving the team their third color. At this point, my main objective is done, trashing SJS. So, I don’t really care, but the Wraiths have the best branding.

Colorado Yeti

The red, yellow and blue is an amazing combination of colors. It goes surprisingly well together and it’s quite unique. The Yeti could have been made more intimidating. A silhouette isn’t very intimidating. I think the yeti could have had an open mouth, facing front, as if he’s about to bite someone. Still pretty spooky, but the beauty of the logo gets lost when it’s really small

Arizona Outlaws

I’m not trying to be a homer, but the Outlaws logo is actually so clean. I love the shading and the way the outlaw looks. The maroon and gold is also a super cool combination of colors. I love the football incorporated into the A. The triangle shape suits the logo pretty well. Looks very intimidating, and everything about the logo looks fierce. I love Arizona. I’m not being a homer tho so don’t worry.

Orange County Otters

4 teams left, and we have an otter. An otter? Seriously? This is another mascot which lacks flair honestly. Maybe if it had its mouth open and some sharp teeth then it would look much better. It looks too cute honestly. I like the orange, and if they didn’t have all orange I would be disappointed. It’s in Orange Country, after all.

Austin Copperheads

Ok, who made this logo? Looks very lazy. The poop color looks terrible and there is no outline on the triangle. Looks terrible. At least the snake looks cool. Doesn’t even feel like the snake is aligned with the triangle properly. An orange outline on the triangle would look nice. Honestly, they could have used other colors, because the orange and poop is not it.

Chicago Butchers

I love it, the logo is very good. The dripping blood on the name is a nice touch, and the hand with a butcher’s knife is a good way to represent the “Butchers”. I like the red diamond, but I feel like it’s not necessary. Also, the hand doesn’t feel necessary either. It ruins the centering of the logo.

New Orleans Second Line

The logo itself is very detailed, and you can’t see anything if the logo is small. I love the second line name and I feel like it fits a New Orleans team. Good on them for not copying the Saints colors. I love the purple, gold and blue. This has the best color scheme out of any logo in the league. The colors mesh way too well, it’s uncanny. I love the trumpets. Very NOLA. Just a really good logo.

I surprisingly agree with the vast majority of your assessments here. I will say that I like the SJS color scheme, but overall it could use some work. Very solid piece here!
