*The End of the Offseason - ztarwarz - 07-27-2020 The long offseason is finally almost over. The season officially begins two days from when this article should reach print, with the Draft happening the day after that. For the new DSFL players, their total wait is just a week for the first day of Prospect bowls, and they will know which team they will play for three days later. We reached out to a number of players and fans to hear what their reaction was to the yearly offseason slog coming to an all too needed close. Juan Domine, the London Royals Linebacker DSFL player expected to go high in the first round, was quoted as saying, "Missing Colby Jack in the locker room, but I’m pumped for what Charlemagne Cortez has shown in training camp. He’s ready to set the league on fire!" Cortez, when reached for comment, asked to not praise him before he had made an appearance on the field, as he did not want to get performance anxiety. Lionel Rumper, the Wake Forest Safety prospect, claimed "I'm gonna bring down the thunder on anyone I need to to show my stuff!" Darren Pama, Tight End prospect out of Iowa, reported, "I'm feeling so antsy, I can't wait to show my stuff to everyone! I've never entered a new level of the game and expected to play right from the get go, and I certainly can't wait to try out the gym here. I swear, the stuff here puts anything I've ever used before to shame!" Walk on Wide Receiver prospect Adam Spencer claimed that he'd show everyone how good he could be on only three months of practice, which in this reporter's mind would be extremely impressive. Jamar Lackson, the Running Back drafted by the San Jose Sabercats and currently playing on the Minnesota Grey Ducks responded to our call and answered, "This offseason sucked almost as much as my DSFL career!" Brick Van Sanzo, the DE prospect out of the University of Minnesota, actually called in to the station to give his response, but was only able to give a couple grunts before hanging up. This network's translator informed us that he was speaking authentic frontier gibberish, a rarity in this day and age, and this reporter certainly wonders what such an erudite man will say when we contact him next. Said defensive end prospect Etrigan D. Slayer, "You can have me say whatever, so long as it's not hateful." Meanwhile, a third defensive end prospect, Albert Ruschmann out of Rutgers, responded "Well as a prospect, it feels great to finally be getting closer to the end. All of us have been working our tails off for an opportunity to prove ourselves in this league. All the work put in this offseason will be worth it when I hear my name called on draft night. Right now it's just about managing emotions and expectations, and keeping ourselves in the best shape we can." Sheed Thebaw, the Defensive Tackle out of Wisconsin-Madison, reportedly proclaimed that he'd be the best player the DSFL had ever seen, and that nobody else in the draft class could touch his <redacted>. He then followed that up with several more swear words and a graphic description of how poor he considered the other Defensive Line prospects to be compared to him. Jameson Vermillion from Navy, one of the few running back prospects of this class, said, "I feel like I'm ready for this, the offseason felt like it went by in a flash!" Tayshawn Crunk, the Ole Miss Safety Prospect, responded to us by saying "I'm going to show everyone how good I am! The DSFL won't know what hit it, ISFL here I come!" Hailed superfan of the San Jose Sabercats, Kyle Gardner, was also reached for comment. He replied, "Yeah, the offseason sucks for a lot of fans. It hurts less, though, the more other sports also play in the intervening time. So for me, I was able to stay sane watching the Earthquakes win the MLEF. And the Sharks are starting out well, maybe they'll win their first title this year!" With such a large draft class, so many things are important for aspiring prospects. They need to stand out, figure out how to promote themselves, improve themselves in training camp, and perform well all at the same time. This reporter can only wish them luck.
