*Scouting Report on Mai Fukushuu - Jiggly_333 - 07-30-2020 Mai Fukushuu, despite being an excellent athletic talent, is a loud, abrasive, and downright disrespectful human being. Joining the DSFL at one of the youngest recorded ages, she refuses to speak in English to anyone she does not respect. On an individual basis, she may be one of the best players in the ISFL Draft this season, but her track record in the DSFL proves that she does not have the capability to play on a team. After all, football is a team sport. One man, or girl, cannot be an entire team unto them-self. But Fukushuu seems to believe that she is an island. Hailing from the island of Yakushima, around 100 kilometers south of the main island of Japan, Fukushuu has withheld any more information about her background than that. Not only does the public not know anything about her, her teammates are also at a loss as to who she really is. In fact, the only player she ever spoke in full English sentences to was wide receiver Korbin Brown, who was her locker-mate in training camp. While reports of fights in training camp appear to be fabricated, there still seemed to be a clear air of animosity coming from Fukushuu at all times during her first season of football. Her only reason ever for playing football was simply “Because those who came before me could not.” An in-depth investigation and inquiry about her past is ongoing, with many unsure if she is using her real name or a pseudonym. After all, “Fukushuu” is not just a name, but is the Japanese word for “Vengeance” or “Revenge.” Seeing as how all of her rhetoric has been focused on the concept of revenge, it may be safe to assume that this may not be her real name. However, she refuses to let anything slip by her. In recent interviews, she has answered in short and concise Japanese, in line with all her previous interviews, even though she has been asked questions directly in English, sometimes without a translator present. All of this complete disregard for others has led many GMs to pass up on her in both the DSFL and ISFL draft. She landed on the Portland Pythons in the DSFL as a 4th round pick and her stock has apparently not grown at all since then. This has to be in large part due to her constant berating of teammates during training. While cold and silent in the locker room, she is loud and confrontational when it comes to action on the field. As she only deems teammate Korbin Brown “worthy” of hearing her voice in English, the rest of the team is left confused as to her intentions. This, combined with simply having better options available, is likely the reason she did not play very much early in the season, with the Pythons coach simply assuming that she didn’t grasp the playbook. Instead, she was mostly used as a backup kick returner in special teams, then later as a tight end. Although she is well known to be one of the worst teammates in this draft class, many believed that her raw talent as a runner would carry her to a first round draft pick. This was simply wrong. As most GMs found when they contacted her during scouting, Fukushuu was absolutely unrepentant about who she has been and has been perceived as. Whenever asked about position-switching, she instantly shot it down. When asked about being sent down, she simply stated that she had no control over what the GMs decided. One by one, every GM seemed to realize that they were wasting their time on trying to integrate her into their set-up. In the end, Mai Fukushuu was taken in the 4th round of this ISFL Draft, with the 45th overall pick. Some may call it a steal, I call it a reach. Fukushuu needs to learn respect and handle her anger management issues with a psychiatrist, not take it out on her teammates. Any suggestion that this only fuels her disregards the fact of the matter that spite can only fuel one person for so long. Eventually that tank runs out if you cannot earn the respect that you desire. If you lack respect for others, then others will not respect you. It’s as simple as that. The immediate news out of Baltimore is that Fukushuu has refused to meet with the team, instead explaining to the coaches that she will arrive for training when it is time to train. If she believes that she is greater than the team, then she will not last long here in the ISFL. *Scouting Report on Mai Fukushuu - Crodyman - 07-31-2020 I really enjoyed reading this, well done! |
