Hello again, ladies and gentlemen, it’s me, ya boy, user Crodyman AKA Wasrabi Gleel doing my very first analysis of an exciting DSFL matchup between my Minnesota Grey Ducks and the Tijuana Luchadors.

But before we dive into the real nitty-gritty stuff, let’s just take a broader look at the stats from this match-up and talk about the result. Previously I had predicted that the Ducks were going to win the game in a nailbiter, 17  - 14. In actuality, the results were close, but hardly a photo finish with the Luchadors being down by two scores on their final possession in the last two minutes of the game. The ducks went on to win the game at home, pulling off what many considered to be an upset of a stronger team. Final Score, 30-25.

This game was the definition of a team win through and through. Our young players stepped up, and a couple of veteren players on defense really set the tone early and throughout the game. Big shout out to Hilliard for getting the early fumble and recovery that set the tone for this smashmouth affair. And speaking of smashmouth football, I would be remiss if I failed to mention how Alejandro Chainbreaker was flying all over the field tonight, picking up tackles at will and making the Luchadores fight for every yard. He ended the game with a monster statline of 12 tackles, two sacks, and a tackle for a loss. I was happy to see him show up in a big way against this team, after seeing the little bit of back and forth Jawing on Twitter between him and some of the Tijuana boys. Consider it a reminder that it isn’t bragging if you can back it up.

Let’s get down to the play by play next. We’ll take it quarter-by-quarter and I’ll try and highlight some of the big moments on the field that had major implications for how this upset played out.

Let’s get down to the first quarter -WHISTLE-

Tijuana received the ball first, but they certainly didn’t hang onto it very long. Remember when I said the veterans set the tone early? Well on the second play of the opening drive, Hilliard smacked rookie running back Mills and knocked loose the football, which Hilliard recovered himself like an absolute legend. Big time players make big time plays, and this was exactly what the Ducks needed to play with swagger for the remainder of the game.

Unfortunately for the Ducks, their first possession was stifled by the stout Tijuana defense led by Adam Schell. A field goal by Brasky put the game's first points on the board. 3 nothing ducks.

The dynamic veteran duo in Chainbreaker and Hilliard shut down the Tijuana offense on their next possession, forcing a quick three and out.

Just as the rookie running back tandem of Vermillion and Rotchburn began marching down the field, an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty from Right Testy pushed the ducks backwards and led to a Brasky punt.

This possession, the Tijuana offense came out with a balanced ratio of running and passing plays that proved effective in at least getting into field goal range. The drive stalled after a dropped pass by Howlett, and pass deflection by Hinsetzen. Burton nails a 34 yard field goal, and suddenly we’re tied up 3-3.

The Ducks came out looking to prove they could throw against this Tijuana defense, and, well, at least in this possession, they could not. 3 incompletions and that was that. Brasky punts it back to the luchadors.

First and Goal for Tijuana, who should come sliding through the A gap to blow up the QB for a 7 yard sack? That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, none other than Wasrabi Gleel. Hear the Honk, Feel the bonk. However, Tijuana QB showed true grit in dropping back into the pocket and slinging a 28 yard completion two plays later to Vequain.

Now for the second quarter. -Whistle-

The Minnesota LB corps wasn’t finished with Boss on this drive however, as Alejandro Chainbreaker disrupted the offensive rhythm by sacking Boss for a 6 yard loss on first down. The next two passes for Boss would be incompletions. Enter the kicker, who put 3 on the board and gave the Luchadors their first lead of the day. 6-3 Tijuana

This time when the Ducks offense took the field, they suddenly remembered that this team is much better at running the ball than throwing it. Five rushes in a row for the one-two punch of Vermillion and Rotchburn and the Ducks were moving down the field. QB Sim Snowbow hit Noah Akerele for 11 yards, but then decided he’d like to get his feet wet in the running game too, rushing for a 2 yard touchdown to return the lead to the ducks--a lead they held for the remainder of the game. 10-6 Minnesota

This Tijuana possession mirrored the run-centric strategy that worked for the Ducks, as Mills began carrying the team down the field only to eventually be stopped short. The Luchadors would be forced to settle for another field goal. Three more points and this was a one point game. 10-9 Ducks.

This possession was short for the Ducks, as Tijuana defender Petra Sabor brought down Snowbow for a sack that completely disrupted the offensive rhythm. Forced to punt again, the crowd began to fear that the tide was beginning to shift.

But the Minnesota defense doesn’t like being upstaged in their own house, so rookie Brick Van Sanzo knifed through the offensive line to earn a sack himself and help stall the drive before it began. Another punt, and Minnesota had the ball again.at the end of the half. While most teams would be happy to head into the locker room at halftime with the lead, Minnesota knew they couldn’t let up if they wanted to secure this upset.

That’s when rookie Jason Vermillion decided to open the third quarter with a bang.
-whistle-

Vermillion received the kickoff and absolutely galloped for 73 yards on the return--a statement nearly as strong as Hilliards forced fumble and recovery at the beginning of the first quarter.
Snowbow flicked a 15 yarder to rookie Killian Chambers for 15 yards, and suddenly the Ducks were knocking on the door at the one yard line. Rotchburn hammered the ball on a halfback dive to secure the touchdown, and suddenly the fans and players in Minnesota could breathe a little easier. 17-9 Ducks

Unfortunately for the Luchadors, however, Hilliard stepped up again for this vaunted Minnesota defense and snagged an interception to pad his stat line and put Minnesota in position to out-distance the Luchadors.

However, it was time for Minnesota to experience some misfortune of their own, as a promising drive was snuffed out by a Snowbow interception, picked off by rookie Alexander-Arnold. It seemed as though the Luchadors dodged a bullet. . . for now.

The Luchadors offense continued to be good but not great, as a pass breakup by 1st round rookie corner James Gath and an incompletion forced the Luchadors to settle once again for 3 points instead of six. 17-12 Ducks

The ducks next drive was promising, as it leaned heavily on the rushing attack again to decent success. But much like the Luchadors previous possession, The Ducks offense couldn’t outwit the Tijuana defense and was forced to take three points, leaving the game very much in reach for the visiting team. 20-12 Minnesota.

Another quick three-and-out for the Luchadors, and it was back to the Ducks again to round out the 3rd quarter.

It was the fourth quarter, and Snowbow was playing like a man with something to prove:
-Whistle-

Snowbow began slinging the ball around with more consistency that he typically shows, methodically positioning the offense at the one yard line again for yet another goal line touchdown, this time by their other rookie star running back, Jason Vermillion. 27-12 Ducks

Man, the Luchadors could probably sense the game was getting away from them, so what a shame it is to see yet another three and out, this time punctuated by cornerback Jeeroy Lenkins for a whopping 11 yard loss. With the game slipping out of reach, the Luchadors had to punt again.

However, this time the Minnesota offense couldn’t remain on the field, and were forced to punt the ball back to TIjuana, who came back swinging. The Tijuana rushing attack gashed the defense on their way to the endzone. Boss put a neat bow on the drive with a 5 yard completion to running back Crowbar Theeks for a 5yd TD. But was it too little too late with less than 5 minutes left in the game? 27-19 Ducks

One thing is for certain, the Luchadors would not go quietly into that good night, as rookie Terry Tate’s sack forced a quick 3 and out, and gave the Luchadors the ball back with enough time to tie the game.

Remember when I said big time players make big time plays? Well, they make them in big time situations too, as Wasrabi Gleel and Chainbreaker stepped up to further their presence among the best LB duos in the DSFL. On first down, Gleel barrelled through the offensive line to bring down the running back for a one yard loss. Not to be outdone by a rookie, Chainbreaker followed on the next play by getting his second sack of the night for 7 yards. Forced to go for it on fourth down, the luchadores watched their hope of winning the game bounce off Crowbar Theeks fingertips for an incompletion. Turnover on downs.

Already deep in Tijuana territory, a quick three and out for Minnesota meant Brasky would kick another through the uprights for 3 more points, and the veritable last nail in the Luchadores coffin. 30-19 ducks.

Now I gotta say this about Tijuana: No one can doubt their heart, their fire, their grit. Despite an assured loss at this point, quarterback Boss and company fought their way down the field for a beautiful 15 yard touchdown pass as time expired. Too little too late. Final score 30-25 Ducks.

-Whistle-

And there you have it, Ladies and gentlemen, an absolute back-and-forth between two great football teams. The boys in Tijuana shouldn’t hang their heads low on this loss--this easily could have been a win for them, it was that close, but a couple of clutch plays by Minnesota Rookies and Veterans alike put the game just out of reach, and eventually pinned the luchadores for a 3 count pinfall to end the game.

Thank you so much for tuning into my pod, this has been user Crodyman AKA Wasrabi Gleel bringing you facts and stats of this week 4 matchup. Until next time, keep on grinding, never stop gleeling, and good night.

Good stuff (despite the game outcome), your recap style makes it feel more like a story than reading a box score so I dig it. You actually remind me of another podcaster but I can't put my finger on it.
