Let's Write Player Archetype Descriptions! - KoltClassic - 08-25-2020 Hey y'all. I recently took a look at the player archetypes and noticed that there wasn't really any descriptive information around what each archetype name actually meant. I thought it might be useful to provide some additional context as to what each archetype actually means by giving it a sentence or two of description. I hope that this will be especially useful to players who may not be as familiar with American football terms, and would be a bit more permanent than having to update the player examples that are currently on the page. I may also be using this for a super-secret omnibus project and would love any additional help. Also, please don't take this too seriously for now. If these end up getting used for a larger purpose down the road I'm sure we can tweak them as needed. Thanks! QB, Pocket Passer - "A pocket passer is a quarterback who is usually highly skilled at standing tall and passing the football from within the pocket, as opposed to a more mobile quarterback who relies on bootleg or option plays. Although pocket passers are typically viewed as more cerebral and less athletic, the term is often attributed to more experienced quarterbacks who can perform subtle movements and step up in the pocket to avoid pressure." QB, Gunslinger - "Gunslingers play in an aggressive and decisive manner by throwing deep, risky passes. These quarterbacks usually possess the strong arm needed to throw deep effectively." QB, Mobile - "A mobile quarterback possesses the skills and physique to run with the ball if necessary.", QB, Game Manager - "Although not as flashy as some of the other archetypes, the pride of a game-managing quarterback is their ability to avoid making mistakes." RB, Power Back - RB, Speed Back - RB, All-Purpose Back - RB, Receiving Back - RB, Blocking Back - WR, Possession Receiver - Possession receivers are reliable, go-to guys when you need a catch. While not possessing dominating athleticism, these receivers earn their money making plays in tight windows. WR, Speed Receiver - WR, Red Zone Threat - WR, Route Runner - TE, Blocking Tight End - A blocking Tight End is a true team player, not a huge threat as a receiver but will lead their running backs to success and help keep the quarterback on his feet. TE, Vertical Threat - The quintessential downfield tight end, a vertical threat will make big plays and is generally a fantastic receiver, though their ability as a blocker leaves something to be desired. TE, Balanced Tight End - With a balanced skillset, this tight end does it all. A decent blocker and decent receiver, they may not stand out in any one stat category but they can make an impact across the board. TE, Possession Tight End - Safe hands is the name of the game for a possession tight end, dropped catches are a rarity as they are similar to a vertical threat but sacrifice some agility for catching ability. OL, Pass Blocker - OL, Run Blocker - OL, Technician - OL, Athletic Lineman - S, Playmaker - S, Center Fielder - S, Run Support - S, All-Around - CB, Man to Man - CB, Zone - CB, All-Around - LB, Coverage Linebacker - LB, Run Stopper - LB, Speed Rusher - LB, Power Rusher - LB, Balanced - DE, Speed Rusher - DE, Run Stopper - DE, Power Rusher - DE, Balanced - DT, Nose Tackle - DT, Run Stuffer - DT, Interior Rusher - DT, Balanced - KP, Power - Power kickers emphasize the boom. They unleash their leg strength to increase the reach of their field goal range or to deliver field-flipping punts. KP, Accurate - Precision is key for accurate kickers, who emphasize consistency over power. These kickers are generally able to make more field goals and can pin opponents on the other side of the field. KP, Balanced - Balanced kickers try to balance the disciplines of the previous two archetypes, striking a happy medium between power and control. RE: Let's Write Player Archetype Descriptions! - KoltClassic - 08-26-2020 @Thor thank you for the help! RE: Let's Write Player Archetype Descriptions! - TeyonSchavari - 08-27-2020 RB, Power Back - the Power Back uses brute force to gain extra yards and power through the middle of the field. Although not as fast as other backs, the power back's sheer strength provides the necessary push to gain crucial yards in short yardage situations. Their lack of speed may hinder them from breaking free for long runs, though. RB, Speed Back - the Speed Back is quick on his feet and the fastest of the RB archetypes. His elusiveness combined with his speed makes him a dangerous threat to any defense, gashing them for big chunks of yardage. However, they are not as strong as the other archetypes, so they may get brought down a bit easier. RB, All-Purpose Back - the All-Purpose Back does it all. Need them to run the ball? Or maybe catch some passes? They can do each one at a respectable level. They are a jack of all trades, but a master of none. RB, Receiving Back - the Receiving Back works more in the passing game than the other archetypes. A receiving threat out of the backfield can be deadly, and these players can do it at a very high level. This may be of consequence to their running ability, however, compared to the other archetypes. RB, Blocking Back - the Blocking Back is more of a fullback than a running back. Meaning, they are not as well off running or catching the ball as the others. What they can do, though, is help the team in pass protection and be a lead blocker if there is another running back in the system. This is the support role of the running back group that can expect lower individual stats. RE: Let's Write Player Archetype Descriptions! - mithrandir - 08-27-2020 CB, Man to Man - The man to man cornerback wins with athleticism, and is the fastest and most agile player on the field. They tend to play by instinct rather than by sound technique and knowledge of the playbook, so they can be burnt deep on double moves, but their blazing speed allows them to be aggressive as they are able to chase down receivers when they get beat. With the worst hands of all archetypes, they might not get quite as many interceptions as others, but when they do, they are likely to return it for a touchdown with their elite return ability, which also make them elite special teams players. CB, Zone - The opposite of man to man, the zone cornerback uses technique and intelligence to put themselves in the best position to avoid mistakes. They are not as athletic as their peers, lacking the speed of man to man corners, but read the quarterback well and have great hands, resulting in a few more interceptions than other archetypes. CB, All-Around - The biggest and strongest of the cornerbacks, the all-around cornerback does everything well. They do not have the top end speed that the man to man cornerbacks have, but match zone corners in speed and intelligence while also being the best tacklers. They are the best run defenders, and also have better ball skills than man to man, though not quite as good as the zone cornerback. Primary purpose is to chase down QB's, blow up plays in the backfield off the edge, and have some ability to drop in the flats/short zone and stop screens/routes out the backfield/QB Runs.
