*Jalen Washington Declares for the DSFL Draft - gls - 09-13-2020 After two seasons playing for the Florida Gators Jalen Washington has announced through social media his intention to leave the Gators behind and declare for the DSFL draft. The post, which was a screenshot of a note he had written in his notes app, read as follows. "To the University of Florida family,
It is with a heavy heart and many hours of consideration that I announce I will not be returning to play more games at the Ben Hill. I will be entering into the DSFL draft and hoping to start my journey into the ISFL. I want you to know that I did not reach this conclusion on a whim and I consulted with my friends, family, and trusted coaches and team mates before announcing this. I will never forget the time I spent being a Gator and I hope to make all of you proud as I continue on my football journey." The young deep ball threat wide receiver had a very ho-hum freshman campaign, putting up only 350 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. Nobody would fault you not knowing the name Jalen Washington during his first year with the University of Florida Gators. However, this past season he definitely made a name for himself and put himself on the radar of many draft analysts and professional scouts. He put up 947 receiving yards and caught 7 touchdowns, with 5 of those touchdowns coming from go routes for more than 50 yards. Standing at 6 feet 6 inches tall Washington is taller than your average wide receiver, and it's with his towering frame that he gets above the defense and is able to bring down the ball safely with his large hands that some coaches have remarked almost seem like they have super glue on them because of how well he secures the ball.

On the field he is always talking (usually trash talking) and trying to get into the opposing player's heads. Some teams will welcome this aspect of him, but other more traditional teams may see Jalen as a potential locker room distraction and someone who may get into trouble on the field due to his big mouth and will opt to stay away from him instead of bringing him into the team and taking that risk.
As far as what teams can expect to get out of Jalen Washington should they draft him - a large receiver who towers over the secondary. A player who is quick off the line and has good hands to help him come down with contested balls. In his entire career with the Gators he dropped a pass less than a dozen times. They are getting a player with a high work ethic and who leaves it all out on the field week in and week out - for better and for worse. (489 words) |
