*S25 Fantasy Running Back Rankings - Roezam - 09-23-2020

After looking at a lot of the data for running backs last season I’ve come to the conclusion that these rankings aren’t going to be great. Nearly every single team uses a committee and there aren’t any bell cows. Hope you like coinflips.

RB1 - Marcella Toriki

Marcella come in as my projected RB1 despite having a somewhat “disappointing” season last year. If we look at just the fantasy stats she was not exactly what you were hoping for when you drafted her. Putting all that aside she is still the highest TPE running back. She had the third most rushing yards amongst running backs and was fairly efficient in the passing game. The big thing that went wrong was the lack of touchdowns. On the ground there were a whopping 3 touchdowns, well below the average. Expect this to go back up in the coming year. Now relying on an increase in touchdowns is spooky so if you want to avoid that risk go with one of the more pass catching happy running backs coming up.

RB2 - Mako Mendonca

Last years RB1 come in at number 2, although you could have him at number 1 pretty easily. Mendonca was the 6th running back in terms of rushing yards and fairly average amount of touchdowns with 8. The Mendonca Magic came from the passing yardage. Mendonca led the running backs in both yardage, 762, and in receptions, 63. Expect the Copperheads running back to have another great year coming up.

RB3 - Tatsu Nakamura

Tatsu finished last year as the RB3 and comes in as the RB3. Keeping it consistent. Tatsu led the league in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. Nakamura is the only bell cow really in the league finishing with 299 attempts. Expect Nakamura to stay the bell cow because as of this moment there isn’t another running back on the roster that is competing for any touches.

RB4 - Mathias Hanyadi

Hanyadi finished as the RB6 last year and for many was the first overall pick in the draft. This isn’t exactly what you wanted but still a respectable finish. Hanyadi was fourth in rushing yards with slightly below average rushing touchdowns. There was strong upside in the passing game with 388 yards through the air. Unfortunately Hanyadi is in a running back committee. Fortunately the Wraiths ran the ball the second most in the league, trailing only the Yeti.

RB5 - Jamar Lackson

Jamar Lackson is pretty good for a running back. Finishing 5th in rushing yards and leading the Sabercats running back room. Jamar made his money through touchdowns finishing with the second most on the ground at 11. If he can keep his touchdown production up expect him to have another strong finish.

RB6 - Darrell WIlliams

So Darrell is the lead running back on a the leading rushing team from last year. In all honesty he could be the RB1 but with as hard as these rankings are lets just throw him here. Last year he was on the Hawks and finished with the 9th most rushing yards and 9th in receiving yards. But now that he is on a fresh contract and on the leading rushing team expect great things.

RB7 - Nicholas Ayers

Ayers burst onto the scene as a rookie finishing as the RB2. I expect this to go down for some reason. Mainly because he had a rather high amount of touchdowns. However, he was still 7th in rushing yards and 5th in receiving yards. Expect the Honolulu running back to be a very safe pick.

RB8 - Raphtalia Chan

Chan makes all the money in the pass game. Finishing with over 500 yards receiving and 5 touchdown on the 5th most targets will get you value no matter what. Unfortunately Chan is on a team that didn’t run too much last year. Infact Chan and the second RB on Sarasota were back to back in yardage in the league. A true RBBC, spooky. Chan is the 4th highest TPE amongst running backs so expect the amount of carries to go up and become a true starting running back this year.

RB9 - Acura Skyline

Skyline was overshadowed by Hanyadi last year but don’t let that fool you. He was still the 12th high rushing total and scored a bunch of touchdowns. He was also used in the passing game. I would try to not have Skyline as your first running back picked but we will have to see how it plays out in the long run. Skyline finished right behind Chan last year in fantasy.

RB10 - Sam Torenson

In all honesty I’m disrespecting Torenson with this projection. He finished with the 2nd most attempts in the league last year. Sam was just on a bad team and it’s hard to be a good fantasy player on a good team. The main problem with Sam in fantasy football is that he wasn’t used in the passing game at all. I think if he gets some passing volume he can explode into an amazing fantasy value.

RB11 - Kichwa Jones

The projected RB1 on the Copperheads comes in here at number 11. At this point were taking pot shots. Currently being the only running back on the 3rd most rushing team has to bode well for Jones. Kichwa finished with the 8th most rushing yards in the league and with Mendonca gone expect that to go up.

RB12 - Baby Yoda

Don’t get me wrong, Yoda is a great running back. The little guy is the 6th highest TPE running back in the league. The problem is that Chicago doesn’t know how to run the ball. They finished dead last in yardage last year. Like cmon guys. If you have a running back of this skill give him the ball. Yoda did finish in the top 10 in receiving yards but the rushing totals were big yikes, not even leading his team. I expect him to hopefully do more because of the TPE gap between running backs on the team.

RB13 - Rando Cardrissan

So were drunk and need to end this ranking soon. Rando played second fiddle to Jamar Lackson in both the receiving and passing game. The Sabercats in general were a middle of the road rushing team. Cardrissan finished with 872 yards and 6 touchdowns with is solid RB2 material. This whole list emphasizing getting one of the first running backs off the board if you can. Cardissan should see similar production to the previous year.

RB14 - Forest Gump

Gump honestly needs a trade. He is the 5th highest TPE in running backs but is still behind Toriki. He still gets decent volume but his fantasy value could be sooooo high on a different team. In the meantime he will continue to be a decent second runningback on your fantasy team. Gump finished with 909 total scrimmage yards on the year and 7 total touchdowns.

RB15 - Fuzzy Dotson

Doston is the number 2 back on the Liberty, unfortunately that doesn’t mean too much. If this was dynasty fantasy football he would be a great pickup as Torenson is regressing back down. But it isn’t. Dotson finished with 694 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns on the ground. This puts him at the running back 20 on rushing yards. He didn’t fair much better in the receiving game but still has some fantasy value due to the amount of TPE he has accumulated.

There are plenty of running backs who I haven’t talked about and could have fantasy value. Unfortunately I am tired and intoxicated and need to go to bed. Some honorable mentions are Petrongolo, Keʻokeʻo Kāne-Maikaʻi, and Tirtawidjaja. Running backs are a very difficult prediction in the ISFL as most teams use a committee of running backs. If I were you try to get one of the top guys based on last years volume to make sure you secure a highly used running back. Also I should go back and reorder some of these players but they’re in roughly the correct order. Good luck in fantasy everyone!

RE: S25 Fantasy Running Back Rankings - qWest - 09-23-2020

Mako Mendonca is retired and will not be playing next season, so heads up to anyone looking for a fantasy RB next season. Look at Zoe Watts and Kichwa Jones to pick up the work there.

ah fuck its hard being dumb.  Kichwa moves to probably RB7, Watts as an RB13ish.
