*THICC Prospect Big Board (part 1....?) - jzajenius36 - 11-18-2020 THICC System The Holiday season is upon us! A 1.5 times media event is here! Just what I wanted under my tree. I can finally bump out a couple articles to fund my players’ progression and then retreat into hibernation for the rest of the winter. Now my big board was created through a formula I like to call the THICC system (trademark!), an acronym for This-Has-Irritating-Calculation-Complexities. The THICC system ultimately determines an aggregate prospect score by determining such sabermetric data as ‘TPE earned per day’, ‘posts per day,’ ‘threads per post,’ and ‘threads per day.’ Because at the end of the day, while total TPE earned is extremely important, what’s most important is to try and predict which prospect will stick around for the long haul, and stay active during that time. THICC version 1.0 was found to have some issues as it tends to favorably score new, active prospects. The system inherently cannot discriminate between early activity (when many posts are needed to complete rookie tasks and create a player) and sustained, though slightly tapered off activity, which is basically inevitable. So THICC v2.0 introduced a multiplier for players who have been around longer, as users who are still kicking from 1, 2, or even 3 years ago are clearly high commodities. It's worth noting that the system still favors the kiddos and it is imperative to remember that I have the excel IQ of a C student who is too old to learn new functions, both in spreadsheets and in life. So these rankings are virtually useless. Ok without further ado...THICC: THICC rating big board TOP 15: Player Position User
While I believe this ranking is relatively accurate when considering roughly who will be selected in the top-15, and where, again we must understand and reemphasize the limitations of this system. Posts per day are weighted highest of the scoring system, so this is why we see Demon Jaxson at the top of the board. Out of the 50 players analyzed under the THICC system, Jxson’s user, LB3737, has been around for the 2nd shortest amount of time. His onboarding date with the league was a mere 49 days ago. And yet, in that time he has 107 posts, including 13 unique threads. At over 2 posts per day, it’s clear that Jaxson is active, involved, and ready to train up. HOWEVER, Jaxon ranks 26th in terms of total TPE earned for season 26 prospects. This is why we must remember that, while he will be a high draft pick, it will be to a team that values a long term draftee over a plug-and-play player that has a 50+ TPE head start over him. Players created by the older generation of Users will be interesting to follow and compare to the THICC ratings. The THICC system loves BamBam McMullet, created by user manicmav36. Manic has been around since July of 2017 yet still retains top score for posts-per day, a category that other long time users tend to score lower on. Again, since THICC is so heavily geared towards newer players, the fact that BamBam is up to 3rd rank means a lot. I’m not super familiar with actual users and actual team needs, but I would be surprised if McMullet wasn’t the first overall selection. Perfect combination of safe pick and immediate impact. The other old man who makes the cut in the THICC top 15 is Jaja Ding Dong, from ckroyal92. Jaja’s user is one of four users to have been around since 2017, so again the THICC system is not going to favor him despite the established track record of participation. Jaja ranks 16th in total TPE earned, but even ranked at 11 he still feels cheated. His draft position may be married to positional need as there was a creation run on tight ends the previous season, but I see him as a top 5 pick right now. A few other THICC rated players worth mentioning are Raphael Delacour, Mr. Forty-two, and Jonathan Shuffleboard. The former two are recreates who have been around for a while nad have a high TPE score, but just missed the top-15. These are users who are known commodities and their players could very well jump into the first round on draft day. Again the question will be are GMs looking for the next new max earner or will they prefer the track record? I also need to quickly touch upon Jonathan Shuffleboard. He has been around for the least amount of time out of all the season 26 prospects at only 40 days, yet has over a post per day. Obviously THICC loves itself newborn babies with TPE, so despite Shuff sitting at only 133 TPE, he checks in at 17th on the THICC rankings. While we expect older users to jump in the draft, we would expect young Shuff to be drafted much lower than his THICC rating placement. Tune in next post when we reveal the next THICC 15. Or maybe a mock draft. I dunno I have a lot of information here that I need cash for. Stay tuned! RE: THICC Prospect Big Board (part 1....?) - slate - 11-18-2020 Love love love the article! Great to see quantitative analysis on the draft that incorporates things teams care about besides just TPE. He's a GM of the San Jose Sabercats, so they are forced to draft him with their 2nd round pick this season. Ah ok, thanks for that. There are still a bunch of nuances in the draft/ the league in general that I don't have a grip on yet. I'll be sure to be more thorough for my next post. Cheers.
