*S26 Early Season ISFL MVP from Every Team - dogwoodmaple - 12-04-2020

Too early for MVP candidates?  Says who?  Not me.  With two weeks in the books, let's look at an MVP candidate from each team and breakdown the 14 ISFL franchises so far in S26.

Arizona Outlaws (0-2)
  • Week 1: loss to Orange County (42-45)
  • Week 2: loss to New York (21-30)
  • MVP - QB Jay Cue @Opera_Phantom - 118.5 rating, 63.8%, 560 yards, 4 TD, 0 INT, 63 rushing yards
It's been a rough start to the season for the Outlaws, but in their defense, they've played the two biggest favorites to win the Ultimus this year.  Despite their difficult first two opponents, QB Jay Cue has been absolutely lights out.  He's thrown four touchdowns and is averaging over 300 total yards per game.  The Outlaws will get things rolling in no time, I have no doubt.  Cue is as dangerous as any QB in the league right now.

Austin Copperheads (1-1)
  • Week 1: loss to New Orleans (21-24)
  • Week 2: win vs. Honolulu (34-30)
  • MVP - RB Zoe Watts @Kyamprac - 138 rushing yards, 3.9 ypc, 2 TD, 95 receiving yards
While Watts has been splitting the carries effectively with Kichwa Jones, the second-year phenom has been a terror in the passing game as well.  Watts is averaging 116.5 total yards per game and is on track to have another year with huge numbers.  The Copperheads split their first two and have an enormous matchup with the Wraiths coming up next.  They'll likely stick to their ground game in hopes of taking two of their first three.

Baltimore Hawks (0-2)
  • Week 1: loss vs. Chicago (23-29)
  • Week 2: loss vs. Yellowknife (7-14)
  • MVP - RB Mathias Hanyadi @CLG Rampage - 169 rushing yards, 4.6 ypc, 1 TD, 37 receiving yards
Like Arizona, the Hawks are off to a slow start to the S26 campaign.  Their offense has been just slightly out of rhythm, but tailback Mathias Hanyadi has been phenomenal for them so far.  Hanyadi is third in the league in rushing yards and has added 37 receiving yards on top of that.  Once this offense gets rolling, watch out.  The Hawks travel to Colorado next week in what almost feels like a must win.

Berlin Fire Salamanders (0-2)
  • Week 1: loss vs. New York (20-38)
  • Week 2: loss to Sarasota (10-43)
  • MVP - K Karmichael Hunt @"simo_393" - 3/3 FG, 3/3 PAT, 12 points
The Fire Salamanders are 0-2 to start the season and are looking for some answers on the offensive side of the ball.  They've played two good teams, so perhaps things will start to click here in a few weeks.  They've been led by Karmichael Hunt, who's accounted for nearly half of their total points.  He's reliable, consistent, and has a huge leg.  He'll win them more than one game come season's end.

Chicago Butchers (2-0)
  • Week 1: win vs. Baltimore (29-23)
  • Week 2: win vs. Colorado (20-3)
  • MVP - RB Julio Tirtawidjaja @indonesianhusker - 192 rushing yards, 4.3 ypc, 2 TD, 10 receiving yards
Chicago is undefeated with two quality wins to start the year, thanks in large part to Julio Tirtawidjaja.  Tirtawidjaja is second in the league in rushing and is averaging over 100 yards from scrimmage per game.  The Butchers look like Ultimus contenders and Julio could be up for some awards at the end of the year.  They have a date with Berlin in week 3 but the Butchers better be careful to look past Berlin.  They could easily get burned.

Colorado Yeti (1-1)
  • Week 1: win vs. Sarasota (27-15)
  • Week 2: loss vs. Chicago (3-20)
  • MVP - WR William Lim @yonggarius - 10 catches, 205 yards
Lim is currently fourth in the league in receiving yards and on pace for an incredible season.  He's been catching everything thrown his way and has been a security blanket of sorts for rookie QB Mattathias Caliban.  The Yeti have had perhaps the toughest opening slate, so splitting their first two is a really good start to the year.  I imagine we'll be seeing the Yeti in the thick of the playoff hunt throughout the season.

Honolulu Hahalua (0-2)
  • Week 1: loss vs. San Jose (24-27)
  • Week 2: loss vs. Austin (30-34)
  • MVP - WR Jed Podolak @KC15 - 10 catches, 215 yards, 2 TD
While the Hahalua are off to an 0-2 start, their offense has overall been really solid.  They're led on that side of the ball by wide receiver Jed Podolak who's near the top of the statistical leaderboards for pass catchers.  He's one of just three WRs with 200+ yards and 2+ touchdowns and has been Honolulu's go-to target.  If the Hahalua can get some defensive improvement, they could rattle off a bunch of wins in a row.

New Orleans Second Line (1-1)
  • Week 1: win vs. Austin (24-21)
  • Week 2: loss vs. Philadelphia (15-20)
  • MVP - CB David Rector @ddrector - 11 tackles, 2 INT, 7 PD
The Second Line have split their opening two games, thanks to some really solid defense.  They're giving up roughly 20 points per game and have gotten some exceptional play from their secondary.  There have been few DBs off to a better start than David Rector, who leads the New Orleans defense.  Rector is the only player in the league with 2+ INT and 4+ PD and has been shutting down wide receivers left and right.  The Second Line will continue to rely on their defense and will need some more great play from Rector & Co. as the season progresses.

New York Silverbacks (2-0)
  • Week 1: win vs. Berlin (38-20)
  • Week 2: win vs. Arizona (30-21)
  • MVP - QB Sam Howitzer @Trautner - 99.7 rating, 62.7%, 590 yards, 3 TD, 1 INT
This was a close call between stud WR Jackson Kingston and TD-machine RB Ashley Owens, but there's been nobody who's been more important to our success than Howitzer.  Sam has distributed the ball, made few mistakes, and given us a winning record for the first time in franchise history.  It's a long way until the playoffs, but if Howitzer continues this pace then the Silverbacks will be in the hunt until the end.

Orange County Otters (2-0)
  • Week 1: win vs. Arizona (45-42)
  • Week 2: win vs. San Jose (34-21)
  • MVP - QB Suleiman Ramza @Blasoon - 109.4 rating, 63.8%, 534 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT, 56 rushing yards
The Otters are 2-0 and are led by Norfolk Seawolves legend Suleiman Ramza, who's putting up fantastic numbers.  He's got the second best rating in the league, the second best completion percentage, and has helped Orange County to a league-leading 79 points in two games.  They look like contenders (again) and Ramza could be adding to his already impressive trophy case in short order.

Philadelphia Liberty (1-1)
  • Week 1: loss vs. Yellowknife (16-41)
  • Week 2: win vs. New Orleans (20-15)
  • MVP - LB Jimi DeSoto @Jimi64 - 24 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 PD
Another Seawolf! And what a performance so far for it's been for Philadelphia's star linebacker.  DeSoto is the only player with 14+ tackles and 2+ sacks and has thrown in a pair of pass deflections for good measure.  The Liberty offense has been good enough to split their first two games, but their defense was fantastic last week against the Second Line, which tilted the scales in favor of DeSoto.  He's on pace for the Pro Bowl and could be one of the reasons Philly slides into the playoffs.

San Jose SaberCats (1-1)
  • Week 1: win vs. Honolulu (27-24)
  • Week 2: loss vs. Orange County  (21-34)
  • MVP - QB Monterrey Jack @Rradum - 95.4 rating, 56.1%, 538 yards, 5 TD, 2 INT
This was a close call between Monty and WR Tychondrius Hood, but no QB has thrown more touchdowns than Jack so he gets the nod.  The back-to-back Ultimus Champs start the season 1-1 and can't be too disappointed with their performance through two weeks.  They've turned to the air attack so far and Jack is on pace to break his single-season touchdown record by a huge margin.  If he keeps this up, could we be looking at a three-peat?

Sarasota Sailfish (1-1)
  • Week 1: loss vs. Colorado (15-27)
  • Week 2: win vs. Berlin (43-10)
  • MVP - RB Raphtalia Chan @Frostbite - 130 rushing yards, 3.9 ypc, 3 TD, 87 receiving yards, TD
Chan's total yardage numbers have been great this season, but what really separates the Sailfish's star is all the touchdowns.  He's found paydirt on four occasions and could be looking at one of the all-time scoring totals if this pace keeps up.  After a tough matchup week one, the fish bounced back strong against Berlin and will only continue to improve.  Linebackers abandon all hope if you're tasked with accounting for Chan.

Yellowknife Wraiths (2-0)
  • Week 1: win vs. Philadelphia (41-16)
  • Week 2: win vs. Baltimore (14-7)
  • MVP - RB Acura Skyline @Skyline - 195 rushing yards, 4.1 ypc, TD, 32 receiving yards
We end with one of the league's four undefeated teams and the league's leading rusher in Acura Skyline.  The Wraiths RB has been fantastic so far, getting it done on the ground and through the air.  Yellowknife has now won three straight dating back to last season and have proven they can win with gratuitous offense (week 1) and with old-school hard-nosed defense (week 2).  If they were flying underneath anyone's radar before the season started, they certainly aren't any longer.

I plan on revisiting this at the midway point in the season to see how well the early season top performers are doing.
