*Running Backs in Week 1 - Gwdaja - 08-01-2017 The first week of the NSFL regular season has come and gone, so the first chunk of stats are now in the books. And, as always, I'd like to talk rushing stats, since I have a disgusting obsession with running backs, rushing and everything related. Of course, I want to continue hyping myself as the premiere rookie of season 2, but I'll shed a light on my fellow RB comrades as well. Some established names gave us expected performances, others underwhelmed and some rookies really strutted their stuff. Without further ado, let's dive into those juicy, sexy rushing numbers by team. Week 1 Rushing Stats Hawks ![]() Darlane Farlane: 26 attempts, 105 rushing yards, 4 YPC, 1 reception 5 receiving yards Marcus Robinson: 5 attempts, 28 yards, 5.6 YPC The Hawks ran the ball really well, and I'm sure everyone was happy to see that Darlane Farlane lived up to his hype, breaking the 100-yard mark in his first NSFL game (he was 1 of 2 RBs who broke that mark in Week1), with an impressive 4 yards per carry. He even had a nice 36 yards on returns, adding to the special teams. Marcus Robinson did some good complimentary work as the number 2 back. Legion ![]() Ardie Savea: 23 attempts, 82 rushing yards, 3.6 YPC, 3 receptions, 41 receiving yards Kyle Cobb: 7 attempts, 27 rushing yards, 3.9 YPC Legion showcased a nice running attack in their OT win over the Hawks, with two rookies leading the pack on the ground. They're probably happy to see a positive performance from the young backs against a pretty solid defense in Baltimore. Savea backed up the hype behind his ranking as the #1 back in the Season 2 draft class, racking up 123 total yards, including an impressive 41 receiving off 3 receptions. Kyle Cobb did his part as the backup, adding 27 yards in support. Liberty ![]() Omar Wright: 17 attempts, 78 rushing yards, 4.6 YPC, 1 rushing TD, 1 reception, 2 receiving yards Omar Wright was basically the lone rushing presence in Philly, having a really solid day on the ground. He had nearly 5 yards per carry, just under 80 rushing yards and even added a rushing score to the mix. On special teams, he compiled 47 return yards - a solid contribution as one of the team leaders. He'll continue to do his part as the lead back for the Liberty going forward. SaberCats ![]() Jack Durden: 22 attempts, 69 rushing yards, 3.1 YPC, 1 rushing TD, 2 receptions, 12 receiving yards, 1 receiving TDs Denzel Diaz: 12 attempts, 52 rushing yards, 4.3 YPC The SaberCats put a whooping on the Liberty, and their RBs turned some heads in the process. While Durden may have disappointed with his average, only 3.1 YPC, he found the end zone both on the ground and with a reception, making him one of the few players to gain 2 TDs in the first week. Denzel Diaz was a standout as a rookie, adding 52 yards as a backup and an incredible 101 return yards, thanks to an explosive 72-yard return play. Diaz definitely made a name for himself in Week 1. Yeti ![]() Boss Tweed: 27 attempts, 125 rushing yards, 4.6 YPC, 1 rushing TD K. O'Connell: 10 attempts, 36 rushing yards, 3.6 YPC, 2 receptions, 12 receiving yards The Yeti may have lost their first game of the season, but they got one hell of a performance from lead back Boss Tweed. The man blew up for 125 yards and a touchdown, with an insane 4.6 YPC on 27 attempts. On top of that, he sprinkled on 29 return yards. If he keeps this up, he's going to break every record in the book. O'Connell quietly supported him, contributing a little on the ground and in the receiving game. Wraiths ![]() Bubba Nuck: 30 attempts, 96 rushing yards, 3.2 YPC, 3 receptions, 17 receiving yards Eric Kennedy: 4 attempts, 11 rushing yards, 2.8 YPC, 1 reception, 8 receiving yards The reigning MVP Bubba Nuck had a bit of a sad showing despite the Wraiths win. While 96 rushing yards is impressive, it becomes less pleasant when you look at the 30 carries for 3.2 YPC. They were feeding him the ball and he was not getting much against the stout Colorado defense. Still, the yardage will help his year total and per game average. Expect him to bounce back next week. Eric Kennedy was basically a non-factor in the number 2 slot. Otters ![]() Leroy Jenkins: 24 attempts, 92 rushing yards, 3.8 YPC, 2 receptions, 7 receiving yards Vick Bowers Jr.: 15 attempts, 69 rushing yards, 4.6 YPC, 3 receptions, 33 receiving yards Otters are only adding to their legacy of two headed monsters, debuting a nice Week 1 rushing attack. They lost to the Outlaws, but put up some great numbers from their backs. Jenkins pushed 92 yards on the ground and even had 89 return yards, too. Bowers Jr. got OPOG with 69 rushing yards at 4.6 YPC, along with 33 receiving yards on 3 receptions. This Otters backfield will continue to make defense pay down the stretch of Season 2 and in seasons to come. Outlaws ![]() Reg Mackworthy: 16 attempts, 53 rushing yards, 3.3 YPC, 1 reception, 11 receiving yards Much like Omar Wright in Philly, Reg Mackworthy carried the load of the backfield by himself, and probably will the for entire season. He had a quiet game on the ground, with only 53 yards rushing and 3.3 YPC, though he did have 81 return yards, making an impact on special teams. While he didn't do much this game, at least the Outlaws pulled out a win against Orange County. Week 1 RB Rankings: Rushing Yards (at least 50 yards): 1. Tweed, 125 yards 2. Farlane, 105 yards 3. Nuck, 96 yards 4. Jenkins, 92 yards 5. Savea, 82 yards 6. Wright, 78 yards 7. Bowers Jr, 69 yards 8. Durden, 69 yards 9. Mackworthy, 53 yards 10. Diaz, 52 yards YPC (at least 10 carries): 1. Mackworthy, 81 return yards 4. Wright, 47 return yards 5. Farlane, 36 return yards 6. Tweed, 29 return yards Scoring (Total TDs): 1. Durden, 2 TD (1 rushing, 1 receiving) 2. Tweed, 1 TD (rushing) 3. Wright 1 TD (rushing) After Week 1, we saw some great and some not-so-great performances from the running backs of the NSFL. Stats were spread all across the board, too, with rushing, receiving and even return yards. One week isn't enough to predict how the rushing landscape will look at the end of the season, but it's still fun to speculate and talk about the first numbers we've seen all year. Let me know what I can add to any future iterations of this in the future and if I made any mistakes - I will continue to do running back coverage as the NSFL progresses!!
