*The Quest for Perfection Part 1 - frazzle14 - 01-02-2021 The Quest for Perfection Part 1 Perfection is defined as the state or quality of being or becoming perfect. To achieve perfection in anything is an amazing achievement. Trying to achieve perfection at predicting results in a sim league with a sim that seems to thrive on chaos might seem mad to most, but to me it’s become a maddening dream that I have to achieve. In this article I’m going to go through my predictions from last season to see how I close I came to achieving the perfect picks. Season 25 Week 1: Here were the fixtures and results for this week: @       23         35  @     20         23   @       27          31 @    10          27   @    16          24 @    30          27 @      17          23 These were my picks for this week: Copperheads Hawks Butchers Sailfish Secondline Silverbacks Sabercats A solid 4/7 and two TPE to start out the season.  The losing picks were close games (apart from the sailfish, heck they fish) so a decent start to the season. I’m going to keep a tally of the teams I’ve picked and whether they won or not, so I can see if I have any bias towards a team or if there’s a team that consistently let me down throughout the season. Doing pretty well at this stage of the season I must say.  Butchers and picking against the Hawks (clearly never learnt my lesson from earlier in the season) let me down this week. NSFC                            ASFC Yeti 7-1                         Otters  8-0 Butchers 5-3                  Outlaws 4-4 Hawks 5-3                     Sabercats 4-4 Wraiths 4-4                    Hahalua 4-4 Liberty 3-5                     Copperheads 3-5 Sailfish 3-5                     Secondline 3-5 Fire Salamanders 3-5       Silverbacks 0-8 The only team I hadn’t picked so far this season had been the Fire Salamanders who were sitting at 3-5 halfway through the season. I had picked the other expansion team, the Silverbacks, twice by this point, which obviously hadn’t worked out well for me. At the other end of the standings, after picking the Sabercats to beat them on the opening day of the season, I picked the Otters the next seven weeks, which worked out very well for me as they had won every game in the season at this point.  The Yeti were sitting at 7-1 and I had picked them to win five times and they delivered.  My team, the Hawks, were sitting at 5-3 with my record for picking them at 3-2. The only other team that hadn’t let me down so far was the Outlaws.  The Butchers had 5 wins at this point of the season and I had picked them for all of they wins.  Three teams, Liberty, Sabercats and Silverbacks have a losing record at this point in the season when I’ve picked them. Lets see how I got on during the second half of the season. Week 9: Here were the fixtures and results for this week: @      19          24 @    13          36 @      37          29 @    30           6 @    14          41 @     3           35 @    33          28 These were my picks for this week: Sabercats Otters Outlaws Yeti Hahalua Hawks Silverbacks The streak of 5/7 breaks in week nine and unfortunately it’s with a 4/7.  For some reason I continue to put faith in the Silverbacks but even though it was a close game they lost again, my unbeaten record with the Outlaws also comes to an end and the Hawks take a beating away to the Copperheads. I finally pick the Fire Salamanders and they get beat.  The Silverbacks pick up their first win of the season and obviously I had picked against them. The only two winners for me this week was the Secondline and Butchers getting the wins at home. Yeti losing away to the surging Sailfish and the Wraiths getting beat at home by the Liberty. I’ve still to get more than 5/7 picks correct but at least my lowest week so far has been 2/7. There was only four points separating me from perfection. The Hahalua unfortunately couldn’t pull out the win away to the Secondline. So close to perfection but still not enough. Only one week left of this season, can I get my perfect picks this season? Not a good way to end the season for me. 2/7 is a pretty crappy way to the end the season. The Outlaws and the Wraiths were my only winning picks for this week and with that my quest for perfection has to go on hold until next season. Team picks record: Butchers 8-2 Copperheads 4-2 Fire Salamanders 0-4 Hahalua 4-5 Hawks 6-6 Liberty 0-3 Otters 9-4 Outlaws 5-2 Sabercats 6-5 Sailfish 7-3 Secondline 4-1 Silverbacks 1-3 Wraiths 3-3 Yeti 10-2 Total picks record & TPE earned: 67/112 – 38 TPE So let’s have a look at the final standings and compare them to how I did with my picks: NSFC                            ASFC Yeti 13-3                        Otters 11-5 Sailfish 11-5                   Outlaws 9-7 Butchers 8-8                   Sabercats 9-7 Hawks 8-8                      Hahalua 8-8 Wraiths 7-9                     Copperheads 7-9 Liberty 7-9                      Secondline 7-9 Fire Salamanders 3-13      Silverbacks 4-12 After I never picked the Fire Salamanders at all in the first half of the season, I picked them four times in the second half of the season and it never went very well for me as my record when picking them was 0-4.  The only other team that I was winless with was the Liberty as I went 0-3 with them.  On the other end of the scale, the team that I had the best record with when I picked them, was the Yeti at 10-2, close behind was the Butchers at 8-2 and the Otters at 9-4. So unfortunately no perfect picks for me in this season, I finished with a decent but not great 67/112 on picks, which gave me 38 TPE.  The quest goes on to season 26… TL;DR picking correct results is frustrating and the image limit on posts in this forum sucks.
