*Waiver Scout: Ricardo Sandoval - ElMachoNacho - 08-03-2017

[div align=\\\"center\\\"]On the first ever installment of Waiver Scout, we'll be looking at San Diego State defensive linemen, Ricardo Sandoval[/div]

A sought after 5 star recruit coming out of high school, Sandoval enjoyed a productive 4 year career at San Diego State where he saw heavy playing time as a true freshman and became the starter his sophomore year. Over a 4 year career Sandoval racked up 194 tackles and 34 sacks, excelling as a physical centerpiece in San Diego State's 3-4 defensive scheme. Sandoval wasn't surrounded by great players, but he was a large part of why his team competed in 4 bowl games over the 4 years he was there. Named all-conference 3 times and second team All-American twice, Sandoval has the accolades to back up resume. His 5 star background and accolades didn't help in the draft process though as Sandoval turned in a poor combine showing and had a physical confrontation with team reporters, raising too many questions about his character that ultimately led to Sandoval going undrafted. He's shown that media interaction isn't an easy task for him, and many if his old teammates have came on record saying that he's quite the player, but has been involved in various physical confrontations with his own teammates and at one point coaches. All these incidents don't bode well for the 22 year old. Fun Fact: his brother is Notre Dame offensive lineman Antonio Sandoval.

Standing at 6'2, 320 pounds, Sandoval has a thick mid and lower body that he uses to clog running lanes and allows him to anchor the middle of a 3-4 defense. He might not be the most athletic defensive tackle (he does lack speed and agility) , but he shows a prowess of rushing the passer and being stout against the run. His strength is his biggest asset (65 strength) and he's shown the work ethic to improve. (He's increased his speed) . Sandoval is definitely raw, but his 5 star background and production at the collegiate level indicate a guy that while has some questions around him, does has some real potential as a stout nose tackle. Add his upside in with his fiery attitude and you have an aggressive albeit raw, and unrefined player that I think a defensive tackle needy team like the Otters would love to have. With some coaching, and the want to become better, I think Ricardo Sandoval will become quite the player in the NSFL, and one of the meanest....
