*Phillip Weaver Declares for DSFL draft - W19eaver - 01-20-2021

There are reports that TE Phillip Weaver is declaring for the upcoming S27 DSFL Draft. A lot of you must be reading this report thinking who the heck is this guy? Well you aren't too far off, I needed to do some deep diving to find much about this kid. So apparently he was Michigan's 3rd string TE last season, making the team as a walk on, mostly playing on running downs. He did an admiral job when he was on the field, not allowing any sacks all season and actually caught 6 passes for 26 yards and 1 TD. Pretty average showing really for a TE who should be going undrafted or very late in the upcoming DSFL draft, but what's most interesting about Phillip is how he got here. If you looked at Michigan's football roster prior to last season, you wouldn't see Phillip's name anywhere near it, but if you were to look at Michigan's hockey team roster you would see his name penciled in near the bottom of their goalie depth chart. Apparently Phillip comes from the land of the great white north and his first passion was hockey, originally getting a hockey scholarship, hoping to one day get drafted to the SMJHL/SHL. Turns out while he was playing hockey his first year in Michigan, not really getting the ice time he felt he deserved, was getting frustrated with the game and his future as a hockey player. So during the summer break between his first and second year in university he dropped from the hockey team (which also dropped his scholarship) and tried out for the football team and working part time to pay for tuition. Some crazy miracle happened for this young Canadian and he actually made the team. Now after a very adequate season playing football for the first time in his life he declares for the DSFL draft. DSFL GM's would be crazy to select this guy in any of the top rounds but if he sets his mind to it, Phillip could surprise and be the steal of the draft.
