*Is Big Edd gonna be a 3x DTOTY?? - Big Edd - 02-09-2021

It has been quite a while since Big Edd has gotten to receive the best Defensive Tackle of the Year award. This award only goes to the very very best Defensive Tackle, so those who end up winning it are the deal. Many people have yet to win it, but there have been a few guys to get it once. The feeling of being recognized for a great season is unmatched so congrats to those who have gotten it once. Now imagine winning it twice Smile... Big Edd of course does not have to imagine that because he already has. In back to back seasons (S23 and S24) Edd was named the best DT's on two different teams. This puts him on a goated level if I do say so myself. Ok ok, now IMAGINE if someone got it three times. Three seasons of being the best big boy. As I mentioned before, Edd has not gotten the award since going back to back, but this season may change that. He's gotten off to a pretty good start and it looks like he is the current front runner for DTOTY. I collected some numbers and data of Edd's previous DTOTY seasons and compared them to this season (S27) to see how they all stacked against each other. The data is rather surprising...

I broke down the numbers into some graphs and separated them into the following categories: Tackles, Sacks, TFL's, FF's, FR's. Each graph shows the total number of each category after a certain week. So you'll get to see the different trends that have gone on in those seasons. 

TACKLES

S23 was with Orange County, S24 with Sarasota, and S25 Colorado. It seems like the lines trended up relatively by the same amount. Their slopes compared to be just about equal.We can see that S23 was really lacking. Edd ended up with 43 tackles that season. The other two lines are very much neck and neck with each other. In S24, Edd finished with a whopping 68 tackles which is rather crazy for a DT, but according to the S27 projections, Big Edd is going to top that with about 71 tackles. So far so good. It looks like Edd is on the path to getting that third DTOTY. 

SACKS

OK so it seems like the sacks were not like the tackles really. This time S23 was able to keep up with the same pace as the other season. It seems like the motto of this graph was not about how the season began, but how it ended. In S23, Edd had only 5 sacks at the halfway mark. He obviously turned on the burners and managed to snag 7 sacks to finish the season (6 of which came in the last 5 weeks). S24 was similar but a bit more extreme. Instead of 5 sacks, Edd had 3 sacks at week 8. Somehow, he found a way to sack the quarterback a whopping 10 times in the final 8 weeks of the season (7 of which coming in the last 5 weeks). S27 was a tiny bit different. Currently, Edd would be ahead of schedule when compared to the other seasons. Since we're only at week 6, I used averages to finish out the season and in my opinion, the averages did S27 Edd dirty. He is projected to finish with barely 10 sacks, but I already discussed the theme of Edd being a second-half type of guy. Because of that I do believe Edd could hit 14 or 15 sacks by the end of the season which would be a career-high.

TFL's

When I first started collecting the data, I began noticing that Edd was not the greatest tackle for loss getter. He has a career-high of 6, but that didn't even happen in his two DTOTY seasons. It made the graphs rather boring, but S27 Edd is on a different level. He has already reached 4 tfl's which would tie the 2nd career high in week 6! I imagine he will get at least 2 more to finsih out the season so new career-high incoming. The data projections have Edd finishing with a little bit over 10 TFl's which is insane. Obviously, that's not realistic so I wouldn't pay too much attention to it.

FF's

This was definitely the wackiest graph of them all. The lines kind of follow the same path where I get 1-2 FR's and then streamline. S27 apparently shows Edd is going to somehow lose some FF's but eventually finsih with 2, so you can interpret that as you wish. There's not much to say really so yeah.

FR's

The most boring of the graphs was the FR's. I didn't even get a single fumble recovery in S23 I guess and my career high for Fr's, in general, is just 1. The goofy projections think I'm gonna finish with like 4 but like the TFL's that just not how the sim works. I could see Edd finishing with 2 maybe even 3 fr's though. The season is young and we haven't even hit the halfway mark yet.

TLDR: It looks like Edd is on a good pace right now to win DTOTY again, but it is important to remember that S27*is mostly projections.
